You nailed it on the head. The song made headlines when it came out for being one of the first of its kind to directly address child molestation. It’s an important song in the history rock and metal music for this reason. Definitely brought Skid Row into the main stream conversation to that point as something more than just another rock metal band.

I have skid row on an actual vinyl my mother bought new. When she seen me getting more into her "era" of music as a teen she gave me her old albums and taught me how to keep them crisp and clean. Also have my dads original motley Crue albums. Now almost 30 myself I look for these old records. They seem to be making a comeback but the new records dont sound the same to me. I prefer the originals

Originally the band had a fully produced video for this song. They got together to watch a tape of it and everyone hated it. They all left the room but Sebastian hung back and grabbed the VHS tape from the machine and kept it. So he supposedly has the only existing copy of the original video for this song. I don't know if it was destroyed in Hurricane Irene, along with the rest of his Skid Row archives.

My brother would play these songs just simply listening once or twice... I played drums some bass and a good friend played rhythm. Good times, we stayed out of trouble just playing music & games at home. Much safer than running streets, we would roll up a hog leg and drink couple beers then we would mellow out then do what we loved... Music. I miss my brother so much and this song brings back all those old but great memories of a simpler time.

Here's a couple of suggestions-- WHITE LION When the Children Cry. Hugely popular late 80's rock song most have forgotten about, softer quiter sensitive song. The other is JUDAS PRIEST A Touch of Evil. Soaring vocals in that one as well and definitely a British Metal vibe. Hope you'll give these a shot, would be an interesting reaction

In '89 they were with Bon Jovi ....they were hungry then and the shows were great. The song is about " child abuse and traffiking". Check out the line" innocence of a child thats bought and sold " I am sure you read the lyrics by now. I think the line about the fear of running into the abuser is crazy sick. As someone that has a very close friend that was abused as a child, this song pretty much sums it up from what she's told me. She was 5 years old when it started and thus had no idea that there was anything wrong going on until she got older as it was portrayed to her as normal. This was her favorite Skid Row song as it spoke to her about what she went through especially the "Please forgive me cause I know not what I do" line as she had no idea she was really being abused by her family members.

Dave Sabo was a very underrated guitarist. If Skid Row had hit the scene in the middle 80s, he'd been listed among the greats of the time, but because they came out late when grunge was taking off, he doesn't get the respect he deserves.

Hi Jamal, people speculate on this and every other Skid Row song that touched them... listen to this song again and think of Judas' betrayal of Christ... the kiss of love becomes a lie. This fear of running unto you, please let there be light... Out of God's light is the ultimate punishment... Just words for thought from an 80's rock star who was there. Peace out.

Oh yeah, the lyrics of the inocense of a child is bought and sold, in the name of the damned, the angels left silent and cold The name of.the damned is Satan. God's child was sold for 30 pieces of silver... more food for thought

I’m pretty sure the “darkened room” is his depression, and the innocence of the child was his own.

Being molested is a major depressant. I have often had a niggling thought that he might have been molested in his own childhood (there's a noticeable difference in their writing styles, this is Baz...) I was trying to figure out where his temper came from, because he idolized his dad and mom, big on family. Then I heard this song-- it's all but confirmed IMO (there's always uncle so n' so). The whole thing is sad and beautiful! Doing that to a child... well there should be no statute of limitations because the damage is for *life*! Again, JMO. Aside from that, sad but beautiful song, great guitar work and Baz's vocals just *beyond* amazing, as usual! Thank you Jamal! Take good care hon!

I don’t disagree, I’m merely pointing out that whatever the darkness is, the child in the song is him as far a as I can tell

Heavy metal doesn't shy away from the heavy subjects. That's why they call it 'heavy metal'. You should try the original studio version of "Beyond the Realms of Death" by Judas Priest.

Thank you! Love your Skid Row reactions!! Slave to the Grind, and Piece of Me are other songs you should do. Such an awesome band. Bach is amazing, even today. Saw them open for Guns N Roses, and headline with Pantera opening. Was gonna see Bach solo at the end of March, but the pandemic hit.

You're very perceptive when it comes to getting the messages of a song 😭 Like you get it pretty much immediately and it's very satisfying. Yeah this song is about child abuse & how it can mess with a child's head. Love your Skid Row reactions, for another band suggestion I'd love to see some Alice In Chains reactions, specifically Love Hate Love, Man In the Box, and Would ! 🫶🏽
