Sketchbook tour: museum drawings

A brief look through sketchbook number 205, focussing on some drawings of portrait busts done in The National Portrait Gallery, The Victoria and Albert Museum and The Courtauld Gallery, in London.
Drawing for the sake of drawing and as a way to think about Drawing, and done in the hope of finding new kinds of lines and marks.

I’ve only recently found your work. It’s wonderful. I’m still trying to work out how you get graphite to do this, because it is harder to emulate than I thought.

Mostly a mechanical pencil (Pentel pencils). Some also are drawn with graphite pencils as well. All HB. It's a Moleskine sketchbook and so the paper has a slightly card-like quality to it.

Thank you. The amount of time varies with each drawing. If you pause the video, you might just be able to make out the timings (I've noted the amount of time to the side of drawings). Some of them have a total of about 35-45 minutes devoted to them and some have over an hour or two hours. Mostly, I draw for about 30-40 minutes at a time (it gets hard to concentrate fully for more than an hour at a time). Some of the drawings have been returned to on different visits. Only ever drawing directly from the real object, though.
