In a previous video I made a statement that I thought Skelly Archers would finally enter the top placement of high performing minion builds.... I genuinely thought it was going to be enough till I did the math and was left extremely upset about it. Sadly, I'm only human and that means mistakes happen. I completely forgot about the 50% added damage effectiveness nerf we got hit by back in 3.19 which is making this buff essentially not even noticeable :( That said, I'd be more than happy to be proven wrong but it is looking very unlikely.

I checked and they deal about 2/5ths the DPS of skelly warriors in equivalent setups. 4/5ths would be better, considering that their primary upside - range - basically doesn't exist Gaining vicious projectiles isn't worth losing Multistrike, with a single skeleton warrior being able to outperform nearly 3 skeleton archers. Because you can summon them right on the enemy, you don't need to worry about their range I noticed that some Minions actually ALREADY have different amounts of Added Damage Effectiveness, with Zombies having huge phys damage but very low added damage effectiveness as compared to Carrion Golems' Combo Attack (even without their damage buff from having other minions). I think part of the problem is that it's comparable to a non-trans BAMA that DOESN'T mimic your bow and quiver. You create a minion at your mouse that launches ordinary projectiles at enemies. It works with Chain, Fork, and Pierce instead of Melee Splash and that's honestly it. It's not using a special Skill, it doesn't have special interactions. It's Default Attack Minion. The ONLY thing that could make it worthwhile is if the numbers are good. And they're not... The only hypothetical use case I can think of is something that's not useful in Path of Exile - baiting enemies into a specific location. The skellies attack a monster to draw its aggro and it chases them down. That's the only thing Skeleton Archers (and uninvested Mirror Arrow) could be useful for.

I pob'd an iron mass melee skele build. I then swapped to skele archers for funsies. It was about 10x worse. Disgusting.

I'm cooking a PoB for Crit Physical Skelebros using leash of oblation, hyped af with the leech changes, so liberating.

tldr: they have no added damage effectiveness and are worse than all other skeles

(sry bad english, not my native language) Damn I feel bad about minions for a while now, i always had played minions builds, had a "fun climax" with syndicate operators spectres, and i feel i have to invest SO MUCH MORE now to get 30% of the power i had in previous leagues like harvest and before. In the last leagues i felt my minion builds were decent with minimal investment but incredibly hard to minmax and push to the endgame content like uberz or very juiced maps. Minions enjoyers do you feel the same ? I'm still a beginner in the game (6k h) but i feel maybe i should try some "meta" builds my friends play, it seems they never fail to craft/buy some awesome gear to push their builds faaar higher than me.

All my minion builds are not enough good for beating The Maven... Minions are lost... :-(

Will it at least be a good mapper with all the projectiles even if it doesn't push hard content? Or is it so bad you might as well play a different minion build even for simple mapping

I'm surprised people forgot this more though, yeah they won't be top damage but it's still ranged leech and proj vomit, I'm likely just to do a chaos version of soulwrest and chuck them into the staff than run them as my main damage. It doesn't need to be meta and op, just good and amusing, I might go full ranged and even play ranged AW maybe even try the xbow boot skellies.

Good friend of mine exclusively plays Skele Mages and ED/Contagion. Still waiting for a league where I can tell her "yo you can play again" x)

I'm still waiting on mage skeles to return. Bought some celestial mtx and minion overrides and then they killed the build the following league.

I played this in SSF Affliction as a Crit Maatas/Fresh Meat Guardian with Hulking/Judgement/Naval/Turtle.. it was doing fine I like the more dps

I really hope that pure spectre build will become playable again someday

At what point would you consider a skeleton archer build to be ok? At the moment I wouldn't say my current built would be a contender for the top but it sure is a viable and fun build. Without guar skills it sits at around 24K effective hit pool and 4million DPS at around a 6 to 10div budget. I cleared the entire atlas and most of the guardians. I still need a few more splinters before I can do maven and I know I will be able to kill her. I did watch your video and as you clearly pointed out, the skellies do not scale with added damage so what I did instead was forsake any and all life+regen investment and dropped added damage mechanics. Instead I went for a medium cluster jewel with "blessed rebirth" so that they don't take damage the first 4 seconds and then just resummon them. Due to that I negate the downside of the "Bone Skull" helmet which makes minions crit more and deal more damage but get uncontrollable and non-convokable. That route really isn't a viable option for other minion builds as "the whispers" mess up both movement+convocation of minions and they just downright die to the degen but it is no issue at all for the skellies. Both defensive wise and damage wise it was a really great build all the way from lvl 30 when I got the skelly archers up to clearing the guardians. Gear progression felt natural too. With better gear (read -> more currency) I can push the damage to around 9million by replacing my current (less than) 1div weapon, jewels, and shield by using 4 to 8 divine items a piece that I found on the trade but can't afford. PoB codeL zBcubC0KLrug The downside with the current 4m gear is that stuff like timeless monoliths and blight are a challenge because the minions do not kill mobs fast enough and get completely overwhelmed. I also need to keep spectres (or any other minion) up for the frenzy buff and press some other buttons. The upside is that I didn't buy my first items until I reached around t8 maps at which point I started resistance capping and getting more than 2500 life. With that I do believe it is a exceptionally great league starter cost wise.

So we are hoping for Summon Skeletons of Archery and Dark Pact of healing to be added as new transfigured gems next league...

i was really happy to see the buff in the patch note, but now i'm again sad about skelly archers, melee skelly for this league so

Blows my mind the Trans Gem is like less than half the damage of the old Alt Quality gem

i saw the 15% dmg buff and was instantly building in POB and couldnt believe the numbers... incredebly bad! no clue what GGG is thinking about that balance

I'm 100% going dom blow necro this league, just to play something else, as most minion players seem to be going bama or pure spectres because of the helm, but I feel like it will be unobtainable in terms of med budget 😂

the 15% more dmg was such a bait.... we all fell for it, but it's just "15% less trash" still 35% nerf

i tired skelly archers on the current league but they suck cause they move so low and their attack speed is terrible

Super confused on why you mentioned them potentially being in S tier in your tier video, even after going over it on stream where you already knew they were trash only to now again say they are trash. But I'll leave it be

Devs are very passionate when they kill OP skills. But I can't find them passionate when they buff underperforming skills. This kind of skill buff is like mocking players 😫

I think my favorite part about skeleton archers is that they don't stay permanent with the boots. That was an interesting surprise when I tried running them.

R.I.P. Skeleton Archers and Skele-Mages. You'd think GGG would want people to play and enjoy these skills and builds. But I guess not, so you can bury these skill gems in the cemetery in the Necropolis expansion where GGG thinks they belong.
