Hey Andre! Thanks for the review from over here in Australia. Super disappointed Sjcam has gone so far backwards. I always want to see them do well as I've had a soft spot for them since my sj7 but this latest offering is sadly lacking in all areas and the dishonesty in labeling is a really huge turn off for me in terms of even liking the company itself now.

Hey DanVid ! I have a soft spot for SJCAM as they used to make some good budget cameras and ALWAYS released firmware updates for them. IMO the SJ8 Pro was their last real improvement.

Over the years I've researched online most of the cheaper action cameras, and unfortunately they're all problatic for the most part. The Akaso v50x was probably the best, but you'd need an external audio recording device as the inbuilt mics were not good. So the final conclusion to anyone would be to spend more and get a decent one instead.👍

I'll always have a soft spot for SJcam. :) Great review as always!

Well it feels like 2017 all over again. Crazy how some of these budget companies seemed to have given up at attempting to compete to the Big Boys. You know what camera I’d go with lol 😊.

What happened to SJCAM ? The 2 cameras that were good was the SJ7 and SJ8 Pro. Appreciate you calling like it is. Hope your Turkey day was good.

Hi, Do you still think sjcam/akaso is worth buying? since the price difference between them and gopro is like x4 in my country. If so, which one of each brand do you recommend? I just want them for bike rides/outings/trips

Well SJCAM has not come out with anything really good and it appears Akaso has changed the internals of their cameras to cheaper less power components so I would honestly just get a GoPro 8 or newer as they perform much better.

think I'll stick with my ElectriQ 4k for now. twin screens, 4k @ 60fps and it's metal,unlike so many action cams these days. That SJ Pro in the video was shocking, especially the under performing EIS.

Hello, nice vids as always, I'm struggling to find an action cam suitable for my application. I'm looking to mount a camera on a paintball barrel so i need something compact, decent image quality and more important a good image stabilisation.. The sj cam c200 was perfect at first look but unfortunately got a really bad image stabilisation.. Any idea?

@@WORTHITORNOT hello, an update on this, I received the akaso v50x today but I'm very disappointed, first the image quality is far from yours, it get decent if I turn off the EIS but really shaky indeed, if I turn the image stabilisation on the image is so noisy, it's just like an 720p camera. I don't have the gyroscope option, no possibility to choose between h264 and h265 and my phone can't read any of the v50x video.. I'm on 220921-v2.0 firmware and i don't know if it have something to do with it.. BTW i know it's absolutely not your fault and you did a great review but mine is just not the same as you.. Any ideas?

@@befa-the-fab Might download the Akaso phone app and connect camera to app and see if there is a firmware update for it. Also use U3 speed sd cards as just a class 10 is too slow. Let me know if any of this helps

I use a new sandisk extreme pro u3, in the app nothing pop when I connect the cam for any updates

I don't know what it is with these budget action cams these days... The older SJcams were pretty decent. I was even surprised to the comparison with the legend and the new pro, that the pro actually looks this bad. I was even using the SJcam M10+ myself until now. Well, on the other hand... High end camera's also seem to suffer from blurry focussing issues these days :p

Very true, the Action 3 had horrible lens focus and really hope DJI gets it sorted out as I otherwise really like the build quality. I’ll try another Action 3 after the new year and see if the issue has been resolved.

@@WORTHITORNOT Well I think they stuck to much to the action 2 looking to the hardware. Internals seem to be pretty the same looking to the specs. The Action 2 was already a bit soft. And the focus issue of the 3 makes it actually quite bad combining those 2. It seems they only focused more on the externals and they went back to the orriginal design, which is good! I actually don't know what hit them when they came up with the Action 2 design, especially because the 1 was a darn good camera for it's time and a pretty good competetitor for Gopro. I think the design of the 2 failed massively on multiple fields, however it's recording quality conpensated with that, for it's time... I got myself a verry good Hero11 offer, last week. Even cheaper then the OA3. I'm still playing around and testing it. And I think I'm going to stick with this one. It's features are great! It's my first Gopro and I believe the externals didn't changed much since the 9 and 10. But this could actually need some updates and redesign to my opinion. Especially knowing they could have learned and looked at 2 previous models. So actually DJI and Gopro did a bit of the oposit here :) But I must admid, the design of the OA3 blows away the design of the GP11 here. That battery compartment latch on the OA3 was awsome compared to that of the GP11. I'm quite struggeling with it all the time. But you need to because the charging connector is also underneath it. The buttons however seems to work way better on the GP11. And oh man... It has tons of settings and customation options!

Thanks for the review, I was hoping to give SJCAM second chance and buy this camera but now im sure, FU SJSCAM.

Damn, what happened to SJCam? They used to have good 4K cams. This looks like one of the generic Amazon specials with SJCam logo printed on. And the stabilization looks subpar. There's not been much interesting in the action cam space lately in my opinion.

Nope, the budget action camera segment has really disappeared with new offerings that have quality too. GoPro, Insta, DJI etc have really upped the performance of their action cameras so much I don't think the budget companies can even keep up anymore.

I still use the SJ7 Star. It's not the best but it's what I got and it works.

I don't mean to sound negative, but I watch major companies cutting costs and corners to ride what little reputation they have. From auto companies to appliances to tool makers it's the same story. I might not need the extras of a GoPro, but I don't want to pay for details that are not there.

Solid review. SJ6 Pro is definitely disappointing, even before you mentioned the internals the image didn't look great compared to the SJ6 Legend. Also the EIS seems quite poor. I've got an Akaso V50X I bought around 3 years ago and it is still going strong. I'm kind of surprised the budget action cam market hasn't really improved much in 3 years.

I agree 100%. Maybe in 2023 there will be better offerings from these budget companies.

what you pay is what you buy... this camera for 100 euros I would say is more than satisfactory.

I still use an SJ8 Legend and a C200 - Both of which I use at 1080p. This looks a shocking idea all around from SJCam. Why name it after an older model and why let into the wild a camera that is obviously going to damage the brand. The Management should hang their heads in shame.

Exactly ! My old SJ4000 has MUCH better video quality in 1080 than this camera has in it's "4K" 😆

Agree with you all the way Andre. Even the older SJ6 Legend was far better. Personally i find good 1080p great. I will say 90% of my drone videos a pictures are 1080p. For my use i think it's more than good enough and it takes up so much less memory on SD card. In ending i will have to say the SJ16 is a flop. Nice review 👍

That was my way of thinking too! I actually like recording in 1080p because it gives a good average on quality and size. The older camera's actually also had the benefit of higher fps on 1080p. 30 fps vs 60fps made a big difference in recordings containing "action". But I believe this benefit is a bit gone these days. Newer camera's are able to record on quite high fps on 4K too. And somehow bitrates are getting to big for 1080p recordings on these camera's, making the files drastically bigger. I understand the bigger bitrate for 4K recording. But there's no need of the same high bitrate for 1080p recording.

So they made it worse lol stick with the legend.

Wish Insta would send you the X3 as I'm really thinking about splurging on one, that way I can have the best of both worlds, a 360 camera and an action camera but I would like your take on it first as I know you'll be honest about it, okay, brutally honest 💪

Absolutely junk. The 4K looks terrible and the 1080 looks like mush, stabilization is horrible and bad audio. I don’t see any strong points at all. Thanks for the video Andre

I think Sj6 legend is better than the Pro one

This camera has only one good use, to strap onto a drone and get a nice crash video, but then the video quality on this is horrific.

The bandwidth for all resolutions is pathetic. Even the 1080p looks terrible. I don't understand what SJCam are doing. They are hoping that buyers don't understand what they're doing. It should be illegal to claim something is 4K when it's not 'genuine' native 4K. So, yeah, it's cheap but it's cr*p. Buy a second hand GoPro 5 Black for the same sort of money.

Guess sjcam doesn't care about quality anymore if they're going to release trash like this. I had the Akaso v50x and it was great for my needs, but I dropped it and the lens got scratched so I had to throw it away.

It might be because of the chip shortage? Who knows but this camera is disappointing. The lens is VERY easy to change out on the V50X, too bad you threw it away. If something like that happens again, send me an email and I’ll walk you through it

I had an sj4000x the battery was stuck, I couldn't get it out. the lens was always fogged up. you shouldn't spend money on this brand, it's a shame to pay money for such a weak product.

I've had batteries swell inside of action cameras before, even GoPro's as batteries don't last forever. Regarding the lens getting fogged up, if the battery cover does not have a tight seal, moisture will enter. SJCAM's quality has really dropped in the past 2 years which is a shame as they were once the KING of budget action cameras.

Stab on the new cam is terrible and the image isn't better than the old legend 1080p either. Total waste of money and time.

The external packaging is beautiful as well as the device from an aesthetic point of view. But this action camera really sucks, sjcam should be ashamed and close its doors after this huge shit. It's not worth $99 to me, but it's worth $20. How ridiculous!

@@ilciclista Arrrr, "If" DJI has fixed the focus issue on the Action 3 then I would say the Action 3 ! My Action 3 was terrible with the lens being out of focus. The Brave 8 has potential with a very good chipset and image sensor, I hope Akaso can tweak the firmware to get better performance out of it.

bad image quatily bad stablation i think if i were to pay for this should be around the 20-40 doller range my sony camcorder dose way better than is the sony HDRCX405 compairable to 4k image quaity

@@WORTHITORNOT I asked them on all platforms about new upgrade or sj 11 pro but they told,it is not coming soon, I contacted them last month only and they replied after 3-4 month,they were good from 8 series and 10 series is quite good, don't know what happened to them, can't able to bring a new camera within 2 years, sjcam was a good option within a budget,I think they have something else in mind, GoPro is the best.

Nothing screams pro in its performance. Don't buy that camera, it is a total garbage of a camera. The only thing that is mediocre at best is its design and the USB type C port. Other than that, everything is garbage. Akaso action cameras from yesteryears perform way better than this.
