Not worth it imho. Go for the V50 Pro or V50x and get an external mic. The V50 Elite isn't enough of a step up to justify the huge extra price.

Hey Dreki- I'm looking to upgrade from my SooCoo C30 and one of its most useful features to me are the audible "Video start/stop" messages it plays as you use it. Do these, or any other action cameras in their class play similar audible prompts?

Only the Firefly cameras have loud enough beeps imho. All these other ones are very quiet beeps (and not voice prompt). Maybe wait to see the Firefly 9, if they continue doing that, the beeps on the 8S(E) make it obvious that it is starting/stopping but you never know if their newer cams will keep up the same features :/

@@DrekiTech That's a pity. Using these cameras for paintball, mounted on my mask, it's unsafe/impossible to remove them to verify recording status without leaving the field. The C30's (and its clones') "talking" prompts have been a godsend.

@@TheInflicted Several of these cheaper cams have a wrist remote (2.4ghz versions of these have lights mounted on them). That could be an option to see if the cam is recording or not. But yeah if your current set up is working fine still, just wait a little bit and see :)

Hello. Did you notice sound desync for a 3+ min long video on v50x? Thank you. Edit: Ok. Watch the whole video. Do you know if voice desync is fixed with the latest firmware? I found a video on a workaround. Set the video to 3 min length, since the problem is addressed to fps drop related to firmware. Thank you.

Sorry to hear about you dropping your gear, good test for it though and looks like a fail for the V50x although it might have landed more on that one than the other. Good video though, the V50x is amazing value and my issue with the SJ8 Pro is not that it doesn't look better its just you are getting into the price range of the big boys and so will lose out on customers who want something high end to the likes of Mi 4k+ or GoPro and lose out on customers who want something low cost like the V50x.

The real bargain is on the SJ8 Pro when it goes on sale for ~$150. They are definitely different target users but it was interesting to see how they compare anyways. For most people I dont know if it would be worth spending the extra! V50x + External Mic (outside of waterproof case) would be great for casual use. Assuming the external mic works as it should... I guess I will have to pick one of those up when it is out.

@@DrekiTech a few months late, but for that 150+ would you compare it to the Go Pro Hero 5/6 Black ? the 5 is now 3-4 years old but is selling for 154.00 and 6 190.00 , while the SJ8 is still 200+

Do you have the upgraded version of the Akaso V50x ? The 2023 Version. I read that the stabilisation is worse than before. ?

What version of ( V50x ) you have? I got a new version here now! so the Audio is really Good compare the old Version you have. Honestly the Akaso V50x is one of the best Budget Action Camera But if you have a Budget of Gopro Why not? Go for it.

For the money it’s hard to beat the Akaso v50x, the mic sucks but you can buy a external mic for 10 bucks. I do like the colors on the sj pro, more natural.

Three years have passed, and the quality of the V50X has deteriorated significantly. The official seller confirmed that this is a different camera (the internal parts are different, but did not say which ones), but the name is the same. Some scammers. 🙄 P.S. I also chose which one to buy for a long time, it turned out that at a low price there is no alternative to Secam SJ8 Pro.🧐

The SJ8 Pro is much more expensive than the Akaso. If you consider the price, I think the best camera is the Akaso by far.

I just bought the Akaso V50 Elite. I CANNOT wait to start making videos with it. Does anyone know the sound quality expected from these cameras?

RIP Me, I just ordered a V50X for mountain biking then found this video. Do you think a firmware update could ever fix the horizontal EIS issues, or just better to ride with EIS off? I am planning to mount the camera to my full face chin bar.

Definitely give it a try before you return it. Whether or not it is actually an issue for you will depend on how picky you are regarding final video, I tend to be more picky than most as a result of looking at different cameras and comparisons all the time :)

@@WALSRU If you're wearing a full face helmet you'll probably be better off than I am with my bucket helmet. Tighter fit, less wobble. Hope you like the cam :)

Should have compared the SJ8 to the V50 Pro SE, Akaso would win on so many levels. Never understood why most comparisons are against either the V50/Pro/Elite/X when there's the V50 Pro SE out there, that even beats the XTU S3.

there is one external mic you can youse. Its from acaso. other ones unfortunately do not work :C

I‘m planning to return my V50X. I‘m not satisfied with the video quality , mostly because my old iPhone 7Plus, takes better videos. The stabilization on V50X is awesome! Better than V50Pro and much better than it is on an iPhone 7Plus, but the colors are washed out.

I’d just pay a little more for an osmo action or a hero 7 black instead of the SJ cam

$300 USD is nearly twice what I paid for the SJ8 Pro on sale. So on one hand, yes, it's a big step up in many ways. In others, might not be worth for a casual user. It's up to what you require 👍

SJ8 Pro has more realistic colours... Akaso V50x has more alive colors

I thought the Akaso photoed better...

The Akaso V50 Pro is much better than the V50 X for audio.

DrekiTech Personally I find it hard to recommend either camera due to build quality and poor customer support, plus lousy low light image quality, and sketchy stabilisation. I think an older used GoPro is better value.

@@artistjoh That's fair enough. Older GoPro can sometimes be a good value 2nd hand. Although I have to say so far my customer support experience has been great. Akaso has offered to replace my smashed camera at no charge despite me clearly saying it was my own fault (and they do not know I'm a reviewer).

DrekiTech The hardest thing is finding a used GoPro at a reasonable price, but that is another thing to consider - GoPro cameras hold their value much better than other brands which is great when selling, but not so great when buying. However, older GoPros often come with a lot of accessories and that can increase the value proposition. That and the long term durability. My ancient Hero 4 still operates just as good as the day I bought it years ago.

How much is SJCam paying this guy!!

V50X wins.

The Akaso V50 Pro SE is far superior to the V50X.

Do not buy Akaso action cameras. They are rubbish. You can't use it for long. They break down easily. My friend and I bought Akaso action cam from Aliexpress. Mine broken down within a month and my friend's broke down in a few months as well.
