Sirenic vocalist Tori Amos in Studio Q

Музыка

www.cbc.ca/Q
American songstress Tori Amos made a name for herself in the 90's as an alternative artist with albums like "Little Earthquakes", "Under the Pink", and "Boys for Pele", and with her latest album "Night of Hunters" she finally tries her piano-playing hand at classical music.

Around 712 713 or so minutes in, and she talks about being trained under a learn sister Earnesteen-just immediately quickened the lyric and caught a lite sneeze “....I’m hiding it well sister Ernestine, but I still got them bells dragging my foots”.... another tiny insight into the lyrics and why she chose them.

Awesome interview. Excuse me for being late to the party. I was a fan since the release of little earthquakes, but a life tragedy when I was so young had me recoil from the difficult topics, anger, resentment, pain, defiance, even though I loved the music, I couldn’t travel with Tori anymore as I was seeking innocence-funny that a favorite band then as still now is the innocence mission. But Tori’s latest release has me playing catch up…since 1994 lol. I guess, like me, she grew up. Don’t know why that didn’t occur to me but I’m loving the woman she’s become 🙏🏻❤️

@Amy Lynn Hunt My spell check sucks but on my non work phone, it's the predictive text that I have been seeing an insight into how much I really have a very twisted way of speaking or how many people I have met in my stories (I collect stories..telling them, hearing from others, passing those on..) and I will be up texting a friend in the UK about the times l was in a sideshow in Coney Island when I was 20... and I have a personal phone that saves each time you use a sentence and a specific example that tops "diuretic" would be when I WAS referring to the sideshow at 3am texting overseas and I said "and it was not a cool deal to bring kids to. We had a bilateral hermaphrodite and a ringmaster who shot bottle rockets out his rear end as a finale of sorts." I remember the sentence because it was a few days later I was texting a former employer who I managed a bar and I was typing the word "shot glass" or intended to and the rest of the previous sentence immediately after the earlier use of "shot" and I accidentally hit send. He replied "From the butt?" Just yet another story of a kind I had to share because I was horrified but it was also a good laugh after the fact. 😉

Well.. I don't think Mozart had weird musical spats live though, I can't recall seeing anything involving him grinding instruments, or touching himself in concert, and Einstein couldn't play his violin to start with. So can we really compare? My original comment was to knock someone off their cloud and to drop the candle they so dearly hold for Tori, it was getting too sickly sweet. I'm sure she get's tired of these people just the same, and maybe acts weird to keep them at a distance.

not really digging her slavish devotion to the "funding" aspect of music. If a woman goes off and does variations on the dead guy it does mean something,it's quite "punk" or "d-i-y" ,i'm surprised the commercial recognition of music is so important to her.

  • @sisterseeth

It requires funding for distribution of the product. If the funding isn't there from a label, then she's doing street performance to promote. I would love that, but that's not her model. I think it goes beyond materialism to an actual functioning process. Get your cell and record a home movie. Ok, now hire someone to go thru the hours of footage and edit it because you're too busy working out the background and lighting. Now, make sure it's in every major distributor so that when the demand for the film hits, you'll be prepared. Also, be ready for several thousand to be destroyed due to not selling in rural areas... You'll need lofty insurance for that. Then there's the physical cost of the packaging. Then go on the road with 4 tons of equipment and do a 80 city tour. Yes, she's gonna need funding first. I think you may be confusing "slavish devotion to funding" with being a business owner as well as an artist.
