Sire V7 (2nd gen) 5 string bass vs. a Fender 1968 Jazz Bass. A sonic comparison!
Музыка
In this video, we will put a modern Sire V7 5 string bass up against a vintage 1968 Fender Jazz Bass. These two basses feature different body woods (ash vs alder), different fretboard woods (maple vs rosewood) and different pickup spacing (70s vs 60s). Which do you prefer?
Both basses were recorded direct through a Line6 Pod Go with identical settings (GK800RB model). Both pickups up, Tone 100%. The Sire was in passive mode.
No EQ or compression was added in post.
For best audio results, quality headphones and speakers are recommended.

Nice test Jonathan! The '68 is sweeter and less nasal than the Sire to my ears. The V7's bridge pickup placing seems to exacerbate that almost 'out of phase' sound with both pickups combined. In a more busy backing track with additional instrumentation that nasally tone might poke through better or be slightly tamed. I'd certainly not refuse either bass if I had the chance!

Thanks so much for watching!!
Fun video, the Fender definitely sounded nicer. I will say that the other bass sounded very great for what it is. Very similar surprisingly.

Re similarities. I was quite surprised, actually. I originally thought there’d be a bigger difference! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I actually like the Sire much better.

It’s a cleaner sound. Thanks for watching!
Fender all the way . . . I'm guessing the '68 wood makes the sonic difference.

Agree. Yeah, the aged wood definitely gives it more character. I don’t want to return this ‘68 jazz!
