Marcus Miller Introduces Sire Basses!
Музыка
Bass legend Marcus Miller stops by #ChicagoMusicExchange to show us his line of signature Sire basses.
Marcus Miller and SIRE wants to see everyone enjoying and playing music. To make this happen, Marcus Miller and SIRE have been on a mission for past several years to build the best quality bass at a price that is unheard of and make it available to everyone.
The result is a new line of Marcus Miller bass models that are awesome sounding, fantastic looking, and high quality but extraordinarily low priced. We are happy that SIRE Marcus Miller basses are now available and anticipate more people to play and enjoy music.
William Henry Marcus Miller Jr. is an American film composer, jazz composer, record producer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist, best known as a bassist. He has worked with trumpeter Miles Davis, pianist Herbie Hancock, singer Luther Vandross, and saxophonist David Sanborn, among others. Miller spent approximately 15 years performing as a session musician. During that time he also arranged and produced frequently. He was a member of the Saturday Night Live band between 1979-1981. He co-wrote Aretha Franklin's "Jump To It" along with Luther Vandross. He has played bass on over 500 recordings, appearing on albums by such artists as Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, Herbie Hancock, Mariah Carey, Eric Clapton, The Crusaders, Wayne Shorter, McCoy Tyner, Frank Sinatra, George Benson, Dr. John, Aretha Franklin, Elton John, Joe Walsh, Jean-Michel Jarre, Grover Washington Jr., Donald Fagen, Bill Withers, Bernard Wright, Kazumi Watanabe, Chaka Khan, LL Cool J and Flavio Sala. He won the "Most Valuable Player" award (given by NARAS to recognize studio musicians) three years in a row and was subsequently awarded "player emeritus" status and retired from eligibility. In the nineties, Miller began to write his own music and make his own records, putting a band together and touring regularly.

He is a cool dude....I met him after a show last year, the first time I ever heard & saw him perform live...and I was greatly impressed! I hung around a little after the performance was over..... and as I was leaving I turned and spotted him coming back out of the break room area...and at first, I didn't know what to do, you know, "this is Marcus Miller, the Marcus Miller", I thought to myself. But I managed to hold it together, will never forget it...

Man, I wish guitarist ran through their signature guitars like. This was so good.
He really got me at the pickup cover thing lol
"I didn't know you were allowed to take things off the bass" Epic :p
I hope people who make bass demos can learn from this in-depth demonstration and explanation. There are lots of demos out there with people trying to show off. I love the way Marcus breaks things down here! Just lovely.

I have one of these and with tone up and pre-amp on there is tremendous bottom end sound. use it through a standard Crate BX100 with an Orange micro (dark territory), but no pedal effects. I have a 66 Jazz bass with Seymour Duncan pickups, and it sounds as deep as that. Will upload something soon for a compare and contrast. Peace

It's his trademark sound. The sound that makes him famous. His tone is not known for being deep and growly like the sound of P-basses so don't expect that from him.
He always encourages kids to engage with music, and to back that up he makes sure his basses are excellent quality but affordable. Funkateer of the highest calibre : ) my fave musician of all time. Thanks Marcus.

I love the quality of the sire bass very nice tone and great flexible choices of sound. It's all about the sound I'm sold. Great bass at a nice price thank you for dropping by.
I have a V7 5 string and absolutely love it!! I'm thankful for the effort Sire and Marcus put into making such a versatile base that is of outstanding high quality! Definite game changer.
When I was growing up we use to have our church conferences at school gymnasiums. Hearing him talk about altering your mid range to accommodate the sound in there made me wish I knew that back then.

I have one of the first 1000 v7s that Marcus actually signed on the back and it sounds great!
I love that "growl" of the bass guitar!! Marcus Miller is funky!!! Love him!!!
love this video, as you said Marcus you've allowed the bass and customers to testify of its quality. I've watched an interview with you before and you've acknowledged your Trinidadian heritage and I'm a Trinidadian and so proud to say that I purchased the Sire M7 and had NO regrets. The tonal range of the Bass is SO amazing and I say hats off to you and Sire for giving us the GAME CHANGER of an instrument. I also appreciate this video because you've showed us the tonal versatility of the Bass and situations where the can be best used. A heartfelt Thanks from a SATISFIED Trinidadian Owner/Customer. I'm considering the V7 but my wife might have a problem with another guitar in the house lol. Thanks again man
I’ve never heard any of this explained so well. Love Marcus. Love this vid.

A totally cool dude. Met him once at a gig in Manhattan. Took time to speak with fans and speak with people. He is one of my all-time favorite bassists of all time. One of the greats.
I remember 4 years ago this video coming out, 3 years later i saw a burgundy v7 in my local music store, tried it and i was choked at how good it felt and sounded unplugged (always a good sign). I immediately brought it home and i’m always amazed how good this instrument is compared to some vintages basses i own such as Warwick or Yamaha. Thank you Marcus

i got my 5-string bass Marcus MiIller P7 SIRE, i have NO way to express my satisfaction on this bass guitar, it totally went over my expectations! i am very satisfied and the highs and lows , mids are simple awesome! y'all need to get this bass guitar! more power to SIRE and Mr. Marcus MIller.
now this is supposedly the correct way to do a bass or guitar demo. thank you mr. miller
Marcus Miller seems like the nicest and coolest guy ever. What a fantastic give back in life!
This is one of the coolest dudes ever! I own this particular bass, I didn’t know much about it, this has been the best informative video about an artist series instrument.
Wow, I've ashamed to say that I've owned that bass for many years now without actually looking up the different actual functions of the knobs until now! Crazy. After watching this video I immediately managed to get much better tone out of the thing! Needless to say, I'm not really a bass player. This really helped me! I also learned that cranking up the compression on my mixer really helps.
I`m ordering a Sire M7 6 string this Tuesday. I owned a John Myung Yamaha siganture bass that cost 1300 euros 20 years ago. Now his Bongo Music Man is around 3000 euros. John Patitucci`s Yamaha TRBJP is around 4000 euros. I also owned a Steve Bailey Fender 6 string which cost 2500 euros ( and wasn`t very good bass). So thank you Marcus Miller for doing the opposite of every other known bass player today.
THEE COOLEST BASS PLAYER ON PLANET EARTH !!!! I’m new to Marcus Miller and started to listening to him about past 6 months. Just an awesome guy
Finally, a review without all the BS. I've learned a lot about the product! Thank you!
Thanks so much, Marcus .I was lucky enough to pick up a pre owed v9, and it's amazing. the tonal range is killing. Thanks for explaining the controls as they took a bit of learning when I first got it, but now I've got to know it I love it.
This is a very nice bass. I can say that Marcus added his energy to this instrument. Thank you. Very good job.
Proud Sire Marcus Miller M5 player... One reason for the pride, is the man in this video! The other reasons are the quality points of this bass!! If you don't have one, get one! (If you can);)
The best bass guitar sound demo. Respect Miller!
Thanks Marcus for this awesome tutorial this is what I've been searching for , perfect and straight forward , greatly appreciate this and from what I'm reading and hearing these are awesome basses !
I had the chance to meet Marcus Miller twice, before and after a concert, once at the Seine Musicale in Paris and once at the Blue Note in New York. How not to be surprised by the fact that this great artist with his worldwide fame and his talent can remain so accessible, attentive and coupled with great kindness? Certainly a great lesson to give to artists whose emerging success goes to their heads ! My choice fell on the Sire U5 short scale, an excellent choice for learning the bass when you are a complete beginner !
What a class act. I remember when my parents bought my first bass when I was a kid. In the 70s, there wasn’t a lot of options to get a quality instrument at a decent price (as we know, buying a cheap instrument can lead to bad playing habits that can take years to break). I’ve been playing bass for over 40years and I just purchased a Sire online without even playing one because of all the buzz. I’m excited to see how it sounds compared to my other basses. 👍
Man he even speaks with groove.... I swear, Marcus is the best ever!!!!
I´m not even a bassist but this man makes me more interested in this instrument than many other bassists.
How can you not like this guy.. Too down to earth

LOVE my new P7 5-string that arrived last week. This bass most certainly IS a game-changer. I agree wholeheartedly. I, of course, think it's extra cool that my all time favorite bass player has his name on it. May the success continue!
Marcus, I had a chance to meet you at the Gerald Veasely's 'Bass Boot Camp' in Philly. Thank for being such a personable guy. You took time to take pictures with every one who wanted to take a picture (and there were a lot). Now on to the bass, you are right. This is a bass for most players who want to play. I took it to my tech to have it set up, and he commented on what a good quality bass it was. And this price is still well below what you'd have to pay for a bass of this quality.Thank you for such a good quality bass. Yes I would recommend this bass, easily!!!
Marcus, thank you so very much for demoing YOUR bass. Its good when the person who the bass is named for demos it! Because, you know what the bass can do and what all of the controls are meant to do,and you also add some integrity to the instrument. Sometimes musicians have signature instruments and do't even play at all on stage. Yes,you do have a' game changer' in the bass guitar industry. I'm sure other bass makers are trying to do the same thing in making a relativity inexpensive bass. You just showed with your bass that a good bass doesn't have to cost a fortune! Again Thank You a lot for the demo. When I can find one on these bass,I' m certainly going to buy one.
Cool, thank's a lot Marcus for demonstrating the use of the tone controls in depth, especially the mid-sweep which I have a much better concept of now.
Soon as heard the "Run For Cover" intro @ 2:46 I said Yep! Got my coat and cheque book and was down the shops to purchase my copy.
I met Marcus at a bass clinic he was giving at Sweetwater Music in Fort Wayne.....extremely talented, super nice guy. Spoke very fondly of his mom and his Fender Jazz bass she gave him.
He is a legend, come from far in any genre of music, thumbs up
Thanks for explaining all the knobs. Man you are good. Great sounds. Thanks
Hi I thank God for you Marcus Miller because I learn how to play the bass guitar by studying your music. And I built a five string power bass that you may love totally active bass, a hard ash body , maple and rosewood neck. Keep doing what you do the world needs you your sound is like medicine for your soul.

The artist makes whats coming out of a bass, but i am impressed what this jazz bass can deliver. What a wide range of different sounds and no effects between bass and amp. I need one before they are out of stock. Marcus Miller is a great musician.
Great video.. amazing and cool!
What a cool guy. His AWSOME! I want that bass!
Thank you for the intro too.
I’m going to see Marcus perform this Sunday in London - very excited! He usually uses a Sire for a couple of tunes then goes back to his Fender - let’s see what happens! It’s a great bass, and I love his philosophy behind it’s design and price point.
Thank you Marcus Miller for making this initiative with the affordable pro standard bass idea. I didn't connect with the Jazz Bass when I was younger but as an old codger, pretty much retired, I recognised that there were a couple of tones I didn't have. A Precision tone and a Jazz tone, or range of tones. Well, I got a nice deal on a P bass so that was sorted, so I looked around for a nice Jazz and Hey Presto!! I discover your Sire V7. I love it, all the passive J tones PLUS the active pre-amp.I went alder/rosewood, I don't slap a lot. It's a winner for sure. So thank you Marcus. Both for your plan to get quality basses to young players AND for sorting me out a lovely J bass. If I pick that bass up there's a half hour gone straight away. I can't put it down.
I could listen to this guy all day.

I have a bunch of really nice J basses 4 and 5 string ( including a "real" 74 fender) and I feel I can retire all of them. This thing sounds and feels like no other. As if I had been playing it for years. Thank you Marcus!
i bought one from the chicago music exchange and love it!
Great presentation. !!!
After almost 30 years of doodling a guitar, a few weeks ago, because of this video, I bought myself this bass and started learning playing it from the beginning (for 11 years I played bass only while recording my songs, but that was just some basic stuff).
My favorite bass, hands down. No joke. I bought a Sire V7 after playing one from a buddy of mine and in my honest opinion, it sounds better than my 97’ American Fender Jazz 5.
I have recently acquired a Sire MM V7 and I am blown away! The pre-amp and pickups are superb. I would compare the build quality and play-ability to that of a Lakland Skyline. In fact, I owned a Lakland Darryl Jones which was a superb instrument (and my favourite jazz bass) ... but I actually prefer the Sire. A huge thumbs up to Marcus and Sire for the ethos and values that underline these excellent basses. Brilliant!
Love my Sire Bass!!!!!
