    That would be very welcome, indeed! Meanwhile, watch the following bass setup video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/k41tz7WTc67Ug9Y.html It's a bit lengthy, but the advice is sound (heh) and relevant. It covers some subtle points well. Finally, the no-tools premise and the emphasis on individual preferences are important - KZread is full of stupid setup guides that have you using specialized tools and measuring tenths of a millimeter, as if calibrating a _musical instrument_ could be a completely automated process that doesn't take the player into account. (As you can tell, I had watched *many* mediocre videos before finding this one...)

    That D5 is the bomb! Both basses are great, but the D5 just has that "vibe" to my ears. Slight grounding noise can be fixed with liberal amounts of shielding paint in the control cavity, pickup rout, and through-hole. And perhaps a star ground (if there's room). Nonetheless, anticipating the full review! Thanks Lobster!

    I've been looking forward to seeing and hearing the P5 in particular . Right off the bat beautiful neck . Also I like the proprietary pickups has that nice warm early 60s tone without the blurry effect some of those vintage Fenders give off . I was considering the 70s vibe p bass. The one I wanted was 100 dollars off but after seeing this I'm very glad I didn't pull the trigger . This more than worth 500 dollars . I would put it far above the Fender player series as well .

    The red bass has great tone. I had an early Japanese-made ‘53 P Bass with a non-spilt single coil. It had a lot more bloom and blossom and fatness in the tone (I haven’t found another with that sonic ability) and this bass doesn’t quite match it. The 60 cycle hum was present but it wasn’t too bad and it was directional and only happened with fluorescent lights or radio interference. Sire is getting sooo good with their newer basses. Great vid.

  • @rickrolli7091

  • @josephpbrown

    @josephpbrown

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@rickrolli7091 I doubt it over a split-coil, the reason humbuckers have a more "flat" tone is that since both coils pick up the string vibration, some of it is reduced in with the hum. Since it is a split-coil and not a dual- or a stacked-coil pickup, both coils aren't picking up the same signal, to some degree.

    I need that D5 in my life. In that exact butterscotch finish. The D5 itself needs a good set of flatwounds - '51 P-style basses sound sooo much better with flats! I used to have a Harley Benton PB-50 and a set of D'Addario Chromes made it come alive. The P5, on the other hand, needs more colour options. I'm not a big fan of the available ones. Well, the vintage sunburst doesn't look half bad but I've had a bit too many sunburst basses lately (I still have one - a great sounding Japanese Founder "lawsuit copy" Jazz Bass). Gimme black w/black pickguard - it would look soooo good with that roasted maple neck! BTW, D5 used to be a designation of powerful 5-cyllinder Volvo diesels here in Europe ;-)

    Great review. I'm on board, but I wonder when I'll actually be able to buy one. Especially the P5. I don't understand why they wouldn't just use the D5 bridge on the P5 though. The D5 bridge looks like a much better design. Ironically, I probably wouldn't want to change the bridge on the D5, even though that would be easy. Oh well. The necks on both look great. The string trees look awesome too. i mean they look like great basses for $500, but it just seems like it should be easy to use the better bridge design on both basses!

    Great video, Lobster! I'm loving the look of that P5. Any idea if the P5 is compatible with Hipshot hardware? I'd be interested in grabbing this and outfitting it with a high mass bridge and lightweight tuners. I am interested in hearing your thoughts on the black fret markers when you do the full review. It seems like there is a point when roasted fingerboards get dark enough that it would make more sense to go with white fret markers and side dots rather than black. Maybe it's just the way it comes across in video.

Once the full reviews are out, it would be great for you to do sire vs. squier head to head comparison videos with their similarly prices counterparts? I would bet many here would appreciate that, especially those that are on the fence between the two.

    They are very well weighted, not too heavy at all. I will get more exact weights for the full review but they are not heavyweights like the 1st generation Sires of yesterday. The D5 will not need drilling and will accept any Fender replacement bridge

    Already looking for when they are going to be available. That p5 sounded wonderful and it's gonna be a very reasonably priced entry into a 5 string precision.

    Jeeezzzz, what Sire offers here with the P5 seems much better compared to what Squier is offering now ! I mean roasted maple neck, string through body bridge and three strings tree are inexistant in Squier bass lineup. But quality consistency should be considered as well and is my main concern here. In my case, I don’t feel like Squier is great at it. I own three models : a PJ VM from 2018, a Precision CV 70s from 2020 and a Jazzbass CV 70s from 2021 (all of them are mod projects). Both precision basses have a great neck (aside that thick layer on the back). But the neck quality on the jazz one was meh… frets not leveled properly, scratches on the fretboard. So I ended up ordering a Mexican Precision Vintera 50s roasted maple replacement neck (not only for the roasted thing but also for the 7.25 inch radius which is also not available in the Squier lineup). Guess what : the lacquer on the fretboard is awful… as if they put the lacquer AFTER inserting the frets, and the roasted thing looks more like half baked porc than anything else… I hope Sire quality and consistency is way better than Squier because that P5 is causing me some GAS 🔥 Btw, who gave a thumb down ?!?

    Hey Rick, you don't need to post the same comment on multiple videos - I see em! Check out the Albridge drop in replacement bridges for Sire. I have a separate video on swapping in Ultralite tuners on the Sires. Hope that helps!

    Reviews on the Squier 50s p bass are saying the neck is fairly chunky, wonder how these feel in comparison? I prefer the chunk.

    These are not as chunky. Nut width is 41.3mm, almost stingray-esque

    Great question Brian! I'll go into more detail in the full review, but 41.33 mm nut width makes it more akin to a Stingray than a chunkier P bass - which I like a LOT! Neck is super comfortable but a smidge bigger than a J.
