carlo baggio it isn’t accurate though. The vast majority of atheist don’t say that they are 100% certain, without a shade of doubt that there isn’t a god. They say that there is no evidence, so why would you believe there is. As far as we should be concerned, we should believe there isn’t. It’s more of a scale than a binary. If I asked you to disprove that there are pink, flying, invisible, silent elephants all around us, you couldn’t. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t say that it isn’t true. Evidence is crucial

@@JamalW239 Agreed, and in truth, Dawkins, like most scientists will always hold a provisional position. A London bus campaign, backed by Dawkins proclaimed "There probably is no God, now stop worrying and enjoy your life". The key is in the word probably, and the level of probability becomes increasingly small, if, over millennia, there has been insufficient evidence to justify any belief. The idea that the termite analogy is great, is not strong, as we are asked to suppose some method of awareness apart from what we and our instruments have ever detected is somewhere out there, in some sphere that we have no way of accessing. The probability of that then, is so low that in fact it does not impact on our day to day reality, and if by chance it is true it isn't making any difference.

He has effectively answered the question. From the blind ants' viewpoint, David Attenborough DOES NOT EXIST. They don't "need" him. Nonetheless, he is there, watching them, appreciating the intricacy of their lives. If David Attenborough never told us about those ants, would it matter? I think - yes. It would matter. We humans need to realize our place in this world. What do we have that no other living thing has? Ants are better community- dwellers! I believe it is our place is to gaze in awe at the wonders of Creation - God's creation. David Att. has gazed, in awe, and appreciates - and tells us what he has seen. So we may be awestruck too. David thinks he is agnostic because he dislikes the connotations that go with the word "religious/ religion." I think God himself is fairly tired of those connotations too! The trappings of human ritual, the obscene display of wealth, decadence, sin. These human artefacts are as NOTHING compared to the sheer Creativity of God's Mercy. We are not here by accident. Nor are we here without a purpose. By his sheer enthusiasm for life and living things, David is fulfilling God's Plan, right to the end. Agnostic or not, every time David Attenborough speaks, i hear someone who is continuously filled with deep respect for all living things. He is like a spokesman for God. Genesis is an allegory - to God, a day is equal to a thousand years, a millenium is just moments long, in God's world. As time is relative, it is only the sequence of happenings that matters; their apparent duration depends on the observer.. David is one of the most religious scientists alive today. You don't see him torturing innocent animals, just to find the limit of their endurance. God bless you, David. You are so close to Him the rest of us are only jealous! 😇

Because Attenborough has the imagination to realise that reductionist atheism doesn’t answer a thing. Dawkins is a brilliant evolutionary biologist and if he stuck to that discipline he would garner far more support, but as soon as he goes off topic into atheism he loses the plot. Attenborough I have a huge respect for because he only makes comments on the things we humans can possibly know. Dawkins attempts to elevate himself by spouting about things he cannot scientifically reconcile and by doing so he simply enters the world of the also rans. Science does not have all the answers. It has the answers to many things in a material sense but science cannot plumb the realm of the infinite because it cannot apply math to this. Some things will remain outside of prosaic understanding simply because they are sublime. Once atheists start trying to go beyond measurable remit they become the same fools that they claim to despise.

except it missed the main point. people of faith....have faith. they don't claim to know for sure. atheists reject the theistic claim that a god exists but any atheist who is honest is forced to admit that 'there is no way to know if god exists or not'. atheists just dont actively have faith in a god because they dont see tangible evidence of one. those that claim to "know god doesnt exist" need to account for how they KNOW that to be fact. I'm an atheist....I cant say there, for sure, isnt a god. if god showed up before me right now, I would be forced to believe. those of us, religious or not....atheist, theist, polytheist, deist.....those of us that admit we cant know for sure if a deity exists: are all agnostic (agnostic...without knowledge) also, atheist originally referred to monotheists. they didn't believe in many gods, just like monotheists today. instead, they believe in one god. this makes them atheists in regard to every other god ever mentioned. they only actively have faith that one specific god exists. some atheists....just go one god further. Agnosticism is 'not knowing for sure if a god exists or not' atheism is the rejection of the theistic belief that there is a God that exists and interacts with human affairs. deisim is the belief that there is a creator but that creator doesn't interfere with human affairs. all can be agnostic and still hold their beliefs. deism and theism take faith....and the rejection of 'belief in god based on faith' is atheism.

I have no desire to argue you on them, I'm just curious to hear your thoughts on the topic. I'm open to debate.... but this isnt a 'gotcha game' or me trying to prove anything to anybody. instead, I am merely posing a thought experiment (for lack of a better term) and would like to know what you disagree on or what your answers to the questions at the end are. if there is any point I make that you feel is wrong, please point it out! again, I'm not baiting you into a debate, just curious as to your opinion: 1) most can agree that we can never fully understand how complex our reality actually is. the totality of reality is incomprehensible. I think that is a fair statement. 2) most would agree that our reality is complex, as stated,.....but that a deity who could create our complex reality, would have to be more complex than our reality. 3) most people who believe in a creator believe that there is no need for this creator to need a creator of it's own. The alternative is the infinite regress issue (if there is a god, who created god and who created that creator and on and on infinitely), so most assume a deity must be the terminus of being. 4) now, you see, we have come to the conclusion that 'reality is incomprehensibly complex BUT still requires a creator.....and that creator is even MORE complex BUT now DOES NOT require a creator. Thus, something incomprehensibly complex requires creation but something with even more complexity can exist WITHOUT a creator.' 5) if something as complex as a deity can exist without the need for a creator, why would something less complex require a creator? ....also, based on what? ......thanks for your time.

I took the challenge and prayed that if God truly were sublime he would be able to demonstrate himself to me, and more than that affect things that were beyond myself and my own thoughts. I cannot begin to explain to you how things came about in my life except that great things happened and on so many levels that I was unable to honestly explain them away using my usual rational logic. I have no truck with superstition or credulous stupidity. But the first thing God impressed on me was that I had to be ‘real’. He told me that he had more than enough dull witted children, despite his love for them. He needed men and women who could think rationally and test ideas and use logic to determine truth. I responded that I felt pretty dull witted myself and was answered with the fact that he had given me the ability of discernment and that if I used it with kindness and humility then I would be able to build a portion of the kingdom of Heaven in my own way. I can’t say I understand much but what I have seen over the years has amazed me and strengthened my faith in God. God is in our imagination and exists in all our hopes and loves. He is in the greatest equations and the most perfect math.God is rational and completely real to me and if as scientists we study the world in honesty then we find truth, because the world is based on truth. I do not claim to have the answers either, I can only testify to the things God has revealed to me.

When you talk about other religions, those religions are false because of how they portray the physical world, and state it as a fact, for instance these religions state that the Earth is supported on elephants and in turn are supported by a turtle. All thos religions give the same kind of explanations. Only the Bible state the truth in Job 27:6 that the Lord hangs the circle of earth on nothing, a true statement, written more than 3500 years ago. The coming of our Lord God Jesus Christ is prophesied in th would testament. Jesus fulfilled more than 350 prophesies about himself. The scattering of the people of Israel the gathering was prophesied in Ezekiel, and the establishment of the Jewish state on May 5th 1948 by Ben Guiron was a completion of the Truth of the Word of God. @Enjoy and Travel The World! Such a childish argument, what exactly do we mean by God here? As per current scientific evidence we assume the Universe began 14 billion years ago through big bang, what exactly kickstarted the events of big bang? - if it was by an entity then that supreme being is who we mean by God. There are good philosophical reasonings and scientific deductions that point towards the possibility of a God, some people will be satisfied with those reasonings while others won't be. And no absolute solid peer reviewed evidence exists whether big bang was induced by a supreme being or through any other cause - the best we have is deductions. That is why a sensible man would say he doesnt know if God exists or not, but is open to both ideas. And then we have internet atheists like yourself who come up with fallacious arguments comparing pink faires or unicorns with the concept of a supreme creator who induced the big bang. As if you're superior to the agonistics who's clearly taking the most sensible stance here.

  • @emil_king8237

@Enjoy and Travel The World! "If God created the universe then who created God" is also childish argument which in no way invalidates the possible existence of a God. Also didn't I already say there are good philosophical and scientific deductions that points towards possibility of God? So yes, there are grounds to believe a God could exist - it's just that these are all deductions and doesn't count as absolute scientific proof. It's like the case of Higgs-Boson also known as God particle, the guy behind it deduced the existence of the particle based on all the data he analyzed back in 1930s or so, however he did not have the means or the know-how to scientifically prove it back then. Fast forward to 1990s scientists have confirmed the existence of Higgs-Boson because technology have developed to the extent to make it possible. That's the case with God, deductions can be made with the data we have but technology and know-how is still in its infancy to provide absolutely proof.

Read your first comment, you're the one who came here trying to critic agonists with that pink fairy nonsense, to that i replied. Following which you switched sides and decided to play off as agonistic. And where did i say Higgs-Boson was related to God? I said it's called God particle, never in any way did I claim it proves the existence of God. It was given as an example of deductions being later proven scientifically as technology improved. Learn to read! There are academics disagreeing with both big bang and evolution - so that's that, both atheists and theists could accuse each other of selecting science that suits them. Regardless of whether big bang is true or not, the latest studies in quantum physics proposes a different theory - the emergent universe and its even more in support for the existence of a creator than big bang ever was.

Sadly, even Scientists and other researchers have disrespected that fact. They've taken on a view that Nature is badly designed and flawed and only they and their innovation and shortcuts can save the Earth. Now look where we are. The present modern Scientific Orthodoxy has ripped out pages from the old Dark Ages Christendom playbook and embraced them as their own the way they handle and dispense knowledge, demanding no one question them and the average person has fallen for this. Most people will not even remotely question Science and look at where we are. They've taken the lead and brought the whole of mankind to Climate Change. The Scientists then fingerpoint and blame the average person for climate change, but refuse to admit that it was their leading people to climate change. They gave us a failed bogus Green Revolution which has become nothing more than a joke and led to the degradation of our planet Earth. They've innovated hideous nuclear and other destructive weapons for their political masters and with their genetic engineering given us Covid-19. The list is endless and sadly this wonderful awe inspiring planet is on the brink.

When He decides something, He only says to it, ‘Be,’ and it is. And He will teach him the Book and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel. And (will make him) a messenger to the Children of Israel (saying), ‘Indeed I have come to you with a sign from your Lord. I make for you out of clay the likeness of a bird, then breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by the permission of God. And I heal the blind and the leper, and I bring the dead to life by the permission of God. And I inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses. Surely, there is a sign for you in that, if you are believers. And (I have come) confirming the Torah that was (revealed) before me, and to allow you some of what was forbidden to you. And I have come to you with a proof from your Lord, so fear God and obey me. Indeed, God is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. This is the straight path.” (Quran 3:45-51)

I am sure you must have come across this statement in a religion that worships the creation and not the creator. In Islam, Allah (God) who is the creator of the heavens and the earth and everything in between describes His being in the holy Quran as follows: Say, ‘O Prophet’ “He is Allah, (the) One. Allah-us-Samad (The Self-Sufficient Master, Whom all creatures need, He neither eats nor drinks). He begets not, nor was He begotten; And there is none co-equal or comparable unto Him.” (Quran 112) Allah further clarifies in the holy Quran how nothing and nobody is regarded to be comparable to Allah as follows: “Allah is He besides Whom there is no god (deity), the Everliving, the Self-subsisting by Whom all subsist; slumber does not overtake Him nor sleep; whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth belongs to Him; who is he that can intercede in His presence except by His permission? He knows what is before them (creation) and what is behind them, and they cannot comprehend anything out of His knowledge except as He wills. His throne extends over the heavens and the earth, and He is never weary of preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Supreme (in glory).” (Quran 2:255) My friend as you can see from the above verses of the holy Quran resting for Allah (God) is out of question and in fact it’s a blasphemy against His being.

He is brave enough to admit there are things he doesn't know, which is infinitely stronger in my view than to simply conform to one pattern of thought.

Even as a Christian I try to take a similar attitude that there is a lot I don’t know and I always need to be open to new information coming in and also not allow myself to become arrogant. I am making a best-fit estimate. It’s one I do feel strongly about but I have no problem admitting that faith is what it is and that I should always recognize that those gaps in my knowledge and judgment can and will lead me to make mistakes. I respect that he can do the same thing from a non-religious standpoint and realize his limitations as well.

According to John 3, a man “MUST be born again” to receive the equipment so to speak TO RECEIVE spiritual truth! Attenborough's profound admiration for animals is his own most Godlike behaviour. He has no idea something else is regarding HIM with the same wondrous affection as he marvels at the termites. And he has no idea he carries a divine spark. That observation applies to most of us, with our deep love of animals. How do we know ? Attenborough defines himself as Agnostic. ( don't know) If only he was Gnostic by knowing how to activate his own divine spark Its quite easy. Brilliant as he is, his gift is from God and he will find out soon enough.. we are on earth but for a blink of an eye.. and eternity is a long time to be living in regret… all cultures seem to believe the snake as being central to creation so the commonality is there with people who never interacted with each other until recently in the past few thousand years.

It’s so true that we’re here for so short a time. The thing is, we don’t know if we’ll spend eternity living in regret, and you may very well be worshipping the wrong gods and find yourself living in regret as well. None of us truly knows what the truth is, but I think that’s ok. If we can all learn to accept that, I think we’ll be individually happier. I wouldn’t say ALL cultures view snakes as central to creation. For example, in Christianity, the snake was not central to creation, but to sin. Different thing altogether. And there are other stories where snakes don’t even appear. And all people can be traced back to Africa, so I suppose we could argue that the “true” garden of Eden is that continent. So it wouldn’t be true to say that people haven’t interacted until recently, the reality is that we are all one people. All cultures are born from other cultures and change and develop with time. As an agnostic atheist with an interest in religions and myths, I think there are a few common ideas I noticed. 1) Our bodies are temporary vessels that we dwell in for a time, but we continue to exist after those bodies decay. 2) We all came from the same place and all of humanity is connected. 3) There is something inherently flawed about humans as a species, a challenge we must either learn to overcome or accept. 4) The natural world is beautiful and precious. I think that religious texts can only point to a potential truth or describe the idea of something, but that taking them very literally can be dangerous and simply worsen the dysfunction that humans experience. I think too many people take their religious texts as instructions to harm others, but that this fundementally goes against all it is meant to inspire.

@@fabplays6559 agnostic atheist…? You are joking right? Might as well just call yourself an unbeliever.. South America was only discovered 600 years ago but they had the snake which is central to a lot of their religions.. the ‘snake’ does not represent ‘sin’…the serpent does… Moses staff was turned into a snake by Yahweh .. why would Yahweh give his chosen prophet a symbol of sin to carry around in his hand to work miracles… Hindus, Zoroastrian, ancient Egyptians have the snake as central to their religion when they all appear to ‘worship’ different gods.. but I digress.. according to science, the universe was created billions of years ago… that in itself is an eternity compared to a human life.. so why would God create a universe billions of years ago but create humans recently…? Because ‘time’ is a man made concept.. God is in the past, present and future.. there is no such thing as worshiping the ‘wrong’ God… only worshiping man made idols and multiple Gods is wrong.. even Jesus worshiped ‘the father’ but Christian worship the trinity.. mankind is connected to all living things because you see similarities in humans, animals and plants.. this is not coincidence or ‘evolution’ but by design.. Africa is not the origin of humans .. it’s just a theory.. the diversity of humans shows that we could not have originated from a single entity.. the complexity of DNA, the eyes, the brain, of all living matter shows that it could not have happened ‘by chance’. The ‘natural’ world is indeed wondrous but that’s due to Nature .. which does not exist on any other planet within a billion light years of earth.. how can that be if everything happened ‘by chance’ (The Fermi paradox) … 400 years ago nobody believed dinosaurs existed, a 100 years ago it was impossible to believe that a man could be given a pigs heart… just because you cannot explain or see something, it does not mean that it doesn’t exist or didn’t happen.. enjoy life, respect nature, believe in the one creator … in Islam Allah has 99 other names.. there are probably that many names for the one God around the world 🙂

I realized my mistake not long after I posted my comment but of course I couldn’t correct it. I knew eventually someone would let me know what I already was aware of. The Miracle of the Atom The Laws of physics that exist are due to the activity within the atom, which is finely tuned in order for us to exist and as we know atoms are required for life. The main energy level occupied by an electron during orbit is dictated by its fixed distance from the nucleus of the atom. This is relative to electron and proton attraction. There are constants within the atom, like the size of the electric charge of the electron and the ratio of the masses of the protons relative to each other. All orbitals that have the same value “N” being the main energy level relates to the quantum number and are said to share the same shell level. Protons are subatomic particles which are charged in relation to the nucleus, electrons are attracted towards them because they have opposite electrical charges; this fine tuning keeps them in orbit around the nucleus making the development of life possible as we know it. The atom is a miracle of design not an accident waiting to happen. Everything is made up of atoms which are finely tuned for the building blocks of life and also they create the environment necessary for the existence of life. The conditions on our own earth in particular are finely tuned being described as biophilic in which life as we know it can flourish. If any of the fundamental constants like the speed of light or the strength of gravity were to change just a little, then life as we know it would cease to exist. This realization has led some physicists to argue that our universe is intelligently designed, made especially for us, no accident waiting to happen. We live in a finely tuned universe perfectly primed in order to support life. There is irreducible complexity within the atom never mine the cell as atoms make up cells and are responsible for life as we know it. Atoms are unique and their atomic number dictates what substance or chemical property they have. Carbon for instance has an atomic number of 6 positively charged protons in the nucleus. Atoms are essential building blocks of life, for example the body contains fat which is made up of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen atoms. Carbon atoms because of their unique make-up also bond strongly to other elements such as hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen because they have branches or rings of various sizes that contain thousands of atoms, carbon is quite accommodating with other substances. These have unique atomic numbers that make life possible. Atoms suffer from irreducible complexity because all the electrons, protons and neutrons must be present at the same time in a particular number and order, for the atom to function as a designated substance. This knowledge dispenses with the idea of mutations and natural selection relating to chemical interactions. Life on the earth is based on carbon chemistry. Carbon is used in organic matter such as our bodies for instance in order to maintain life. They silently carry out important chemical reactions within our bodies and they are essential to life on the earth. Carbon atoms make up the sun, stars, comets and the atmosphere of most planets. Carbon is found in coal, oil, diamonds and natural gas deposits. The atom is clearly designed and many physicists now recognise this, but they won’t use the word God or Creator, they would sooner believe aliens were responsible, but the question is then begged who made the aliens? The term atom really means invisible unit or uncuttable, and for a long time it was thought that the atom could not be split, but when they did, it produced the atomic bomb. An infinite intelligence made the various atoms which are so small and are measured as being one tenth of a billionth of a metre across. They are so small that they cannot be seen under a powerful microscope. We are led to believe that all our sophisticated atoms are derived from an invented primordial complex soup of chemicals which then produced the first living cells. Remember each atom is unique due to its composition and arrangement of subatomic particles relative to the number of protons in the nucleus. This is no accident waiting to happen! A primordial soup is purely fictitious and based on fantasy and imagination because men do not want to retain God in their knowledge. Jesus did not lie to us concerning him being the Son of God and the Saviour of the world. He said that men shall give an account for every idle word spoken, except they repent of their sins!
