Single Plane Swing Width and Timing

Спорт

#MoeNorman #SinglePlane #GolfSwing #TheSinglePlane
Forcing the arms down in the downswing creates a downward angle - which narrows the club's angle of approach into impact. Moe Norman had width in his swing which keeps the club more square and shallow through the ball.
In this video, professional golfer Josh Bamberger, shows the improvement of the width of his downswing.
About the Single Plane Golf Swing
The Single Plane golf swing is not a quick fix golf technique. It is a system, beginning at address, that simplifies the most important moment of the golf swing - impact.
Starting at address on two planes where the arms hang straight down at address, the Conventional golf swing is complicated. Because the arms are hanging straight down, a conventional golfer must lift the body into impact creating stress on the back.
This upward movement to accommodate the two planes is unnecessary.
The Single Plane Golf swing simplifies the golf swing by eliminating the need for the upward movement by starting and impacting on the same plane.

I could literally watch this teaching/moe swing in this format all day. What I love is that you present the single plane swing/Moe model as a more easy/efficient/functional/productive/reliable golf swing (it is that) AND/ BUT...it is not a 'superpower' but rather a skill that must be tended to to maintain. If really high functioning players like Josh/Tim/Todd must do this, than so do I. Good stuff. More please.

This combined with body tilt and grip are so key to making this swing work. Over the last season I had habits from the traditional swing creep in like dropping from the inside to try and trap and cover the ball for that compression feeling and divot in front. Results were pulling and snapping the ball left. Caused extreme frustration! I went back and revisited Todd’s videos and realized the three key elements I got away from. Again, tilt, grip, swinging around the body. Now I’m back to straight shots and playing good golf again. Thanks Todd!

I can’t wait to make this same change and send in videos to our Graves s to verify I am doing this wider swing correctly. Thank you to Todd and Josh for this great video lesson.

Thanks for making this video! I struggle with early extension and this helps a lot, because it will also prevent casting of the club which force the body to extend to not hit the ground early. The arms stay silent/slow until the body can't turn more, making it snap in the end when closer to the ball, is also what Ben Hogan was talking about. It really helps keeping the head and butt in place throughout the swing.

Hi Todd I have learned from watching you that you have a very high level of integrity. To add to this, it would be informative to have you measure the before and after distances from these better players you are showing to show the many skeptics that you won’t lose clubhead speed/ distance by using the single plane method. This would validate to many that Single plane won’t cause you to hit it shorter if you “Follow the Model”. I keep saying these 3 words every time I set up to hit a shot! Cheers

Great video. There are pearls of training wisdom in each video. For me it was the arms follow the rotation naturally. That creates more width on the back swing and follow through. Before, I was so eager to compress the ball by hitting down on it. I’d always felt trapped. Now I’m giving myself more space with the natural width. So, my focus is more my transition and at the arms follow and whip through naturally at the right moment vs generating too much speed at the beginning of my downswing.

Tip, for those who are trying to learn this swing on their own, find some of the videos of Todd where is out playing some holes and watch...Todd is free flowing with his swing which is important...if your like me you will practice the positions so much that when you play you will be thinking positions and interrupting what should be a free flowing swing...I found that is when you loose distance when your not free flowing..

I think you’re dead right on this. Todd says it himself but we probably need to really HEAR it. Sometimes I am distracted by a thought/awareness leaping into my mind mid-swing eg. ‘Oh that’s too far back’. Absolute distance killer and will knock 30% off while you wonder what just happened.

I tried doing the SPS for a few years but i suffered from early extension and could not keep my feet down through the swing so I just gave up on it. I sent my swing video in and all they did was tell me to watch a certain video of this young student teacher explaining the chair drill(butt cheek to butt cheek on the back of the chair). I could do the chair drill all day but once you put a club in my hand and a ball in front I was back to EE. No one could give me the perfect drill or thought to help my issue so now I just do a version of the swing. I set up with my arms straight out but have my feet much closer on my woods and hybrids so my legs and feet can be more active and make it easier on my back. It just feels more natural that way. You dont skip a rock with your feet planted on the ground. This guy seems to have the transition down and his swing looks smooth. I could never separate my lower body from my upper body in the downswing. I want my right hip match my right elbow at impact and the torque from the hip will lift your foot off the ground naturally.

Todd, I've been trying to emulate Moe for many years. In this excellent lesson, you and Josh seem to have the ball placed more centered between your feet. Didn't Moe set the ball on all shots in line with his left ankle, while moving his back/right foot closer together or farther apart depending on the club and shot? Thanks a lot, Todd.

Mr. Graves, after three weeks of practicing and going through ups and down, I must say that this is it for me… I am done searching for more swings in this KZread rabbit hole.
