Single, Double, Triple, & 4 disk Torque Converters Explained by Goerend Transmission
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Dave Goerend of Goerend Transmission explains the single disk, double disk, triple disk, and the converter with 3 driver linings and 1 inactive lining. In this type of clutch configuration you can have a single disc, double disc and after that it will be an odd number. i.e. triple disc, 5 disc, 7 disc and so on. Stay tuned for more converter and transmission FACTS.

18years ago and 150k miles Dave built me a 47rh w triple disc converter….been a great trans
Interesting and very misleading that they (the industry) count each side of the same friction plate as a separate disc. So, one double sided plate is counted as 2 discs. They should count them the same way as the clutch packs. Each double sided friction plate is counted as a single clutch, not as 2 clutches. Thanks for clearing up that inconsistency in the industry. Very good video.

Bought a built billet trans from you years ago and it's been amazing since day 1. Even tho the investment was insane, I'm very happy I went with your product. Thanks!
Awesome video you cleared up all the mysteries of what go's on inside a torque converter thank you so much Take care stay safe and God bless you always 🙋♂️🇬🇧
Excellent Video. I learned so much about converters in this 10 minute video.
Good vid. Thanks Dave.
Wouldve been nice if he would've explained the reasoning behind the multi disk torque converter and maybe given some examples of which converter is best for various demands
Dave built my 47re back in 2010. Its Been great.
good teacher,,nice...
Great video and explanation, just wish there was some explanation of why I need the difference. I'm sure it has to do with lock up and "tightness" but is it driveability or 3 disk needed at a certain power level....?
Whats the advantages of them?
perfect ,,fine product ,
What is better to have a single stage or a triple stage? I'm getting a torque converter for my 6.6 Duramax, or what is the benefits of even having a four-stage converter?
Hey can you change a single clutch into a triple disc?
at 0:18 when you mention the lining is that what people refer to when they say "woven kevlar liner" or w/e torque converter? because on the 4l60e's the kevlar lining seems to be a wear problem like it disintegrating or something...and i was expecting to see some type of fabric-esque liner somewhere

Cranky Jay if some one never answered you the it’s not part of the converter “Kevlar” band I believe is what your asking?

If the friction disc is disintegrating, it could be contaminated fluid (wrong type used), extremely dirty fluid, or over heating from too much hard use (either towing excessive weights, especially on long hills at too high a speed or hard use from rabbit starts from stop lights, burnouts, etc)
At what points do you need to upgrade to each one?
"4th" disc would create better contact with the piston then just bare aluminum right?
Double disk ! Turbin !
i got fucked by that ford shit. i bought a 1800.00 converter years ago and it failed on me. it was cut open this morning and come to find its a double disk from a ford... now i need to find another TC
To bad this guy don’t do custom 6r140
And I still don't know how to pronounce his last name.
pls go for mechanical knowledge on torque converter because all you said is so wrong sir...you dont have any formal knowledge about torque converters
