    Great video Tim. You must have 3.54 axle ratio to get those kinda rpm’s at that speed.

    Have you ever thought about upgrading to a 47RH which has a lockup converter? It's a really straightforward swap and obviously with the converter locked you'd be getting near-zero loss through the converter. Also your trans temps, RPMs and EGTs would be even better on the highway.

  • @decentgarage

    @decentgarage

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes i have considered that. I actually bought a 47rh last year and was ready to do the conversion. At the last minute i decided not to move forward with it mainly because i didn't want to deal with running of and lockup on switches or a standalone controller. It is a great transmission though and eventually i will use one.

    Your using a fluid coupling and non lock up convertor..I never been a fan of automatic however set up properly they work good .. I assumed that the tighter convertor will be a bit harder to spool the convertor down low. The guys who have hot rod diesel truck I believe like a loose convertor . The get the turbo or turbos lit then use lock up ..Years ago guys were using fork lift stators in some of the convertor to lower stall ..The 47rh with 48 internals can be a tough transmission. I think all you need is two lock up switches. You probably know all that . The auto has I think a .69 overdrive also ... Not sure what gear ratio you run and size tires. The tall gear ratio and tall tires might effect how fast it spools the charger with a tighter convertor. I hated the stock convertor in my 47rh..I remember going from 4 gear fluid coupling to 3 gear lock up and it was or seemed to be the same miles hour . I watched the guys shift lock up then unlock and shift again ect and I thought that's not for me . The tighter convertor I thinking reduce the fluid Temps at high way speed and might even require a bit more brake effort at a stop light ect . There is a point that to tight of a convertor will make spooling a larger charger harder ..I remember after I changed the fuel plate and governor springs set the timing ect I could floor the truck it would buzz up to 3200 and not drop 1 rpm between shifts ..I thought what a piece of crap convertor. Till it hit lock up.. enjoy your videos. I read a article where you can add 3rd gen brakes to you truck on the front . That's impressive lol

    Hey man awesome videos, I recently got my 1990 12 valve and I know you’ve done some wiring videos before but have you had any external voltage regulator problems before, I’ve bought about 6 in the past 5 months. Usually 1 a month. Do you know any fixes or what the issue actually is.

    So there are a few things to do to go those to last. 1. Don't buy cheap ones 2. Make sure you have it grounded to the firewall AND run a ground from it straight to the negative terminal on the battery.

    You might of mentioned it in an earlier video but have you rebuilt your transmission?. I have a 93 with Automatic and I want to beef it up a little just to pull a little more over the Rockies with a new converter and cooler. I noticed you can drop a fair amount on several levels of rebuilt trans. After some minor work on the 5.9 might get 200 to 250 hp at the most. Getting old enough to not be in a hurry to anywhere.

    Hey man I know this has nothing to do with your video but I have a question. I hope you can help me with it. My 1992 D350 stared to lose power and idle rough 2 weeks ago. And also 2 of the injectors are bad now.I was checking the truck to see what could be wrong with it and noticed that doesn’t have a lift pump. The prior owner installed a bypass instead of the lift pump. I been watching some videos on KZread and they said that when the lift pump doesn’t work the ve pump starts to pull the diesel itself but after some time of doing that It can cause failure of the injectors or in the ve pump. And loss of power and rough idle are the compre common issues. Can you help me with that? do you think that's the reason?

  • @decentgarage

    @decentgarage

    2 жыл бұрын

    That could absolutely be the reason. The Ve pump will provide some suction but that will not be sufficient fuel psi when you get on the throttle. Ive never heard of anyone having any valid reasoning for doing this and i would almost put money on that being the issue.
