Simul-Rappel at Bridal Veil Falls, UT

Caution: Expert Use Only! Do not try this unless you are highly experienced.
Simul-Rappelling using 2 ropes tied together on one side of the anchor chains. a 200 ft rope was on one side of the anchor chains and a 300 ft rope on the other. The heavier of the two rappellers goes down on the opposite side of the knot on the 300 ft rope. Both guys make sure to keep the rope under tension at all times until they are both on the ground. At the bottom of the lower falls, one rope was known to be 10 feet short. The heavier guy on the longer line goes down first and belays the lighter guy to the ground. Both ropes had safety knots at the end.

Good explanation in the description. Next time I am able, I will try that with my climbing buddies. Type of knot used??? Triple fishermans?

Probably just a double overhand with another double overhand backup. I know that's what most climbers use for double rope rappels because it is a low bulk knot that has less chance of snagging things when pulled.

When you say backup knot, do you mean a friction hitch to act as an auto locking descent control device? Or do you mean a safety knot on the end of the rope? I haven't watched the video in a while, but I'm pretty sure we had safety knots on the end because that is a practice I always do. Being attached together would have been an extra layer of safety, yes. Both hands on the ropes would have offered more stability and friction, yes. There are many things we could have done to make it safer. We could have both rappelled one at a time on a double strand of rope. We definitely took more risks than we needed to. I guess my only answer is that we both felt comfortable going down that way. There are always circumstances and factors for why you might rappel with a certain set up. I was very comfortable with that friction setting and with that partner. Simul-rappelling is already dangerous enough. Thanks for your comment. Hopefully it came from a place of concern for safety and not just being another "know it all" internet troll who has to point out other people's potential errors in KZread videos.

Ryan Stallings yep, i meant both knot at the end, and friction hitch. I posted this just because today someone important died, because of simul rappel without backups...someone strong. And doing all of this in this video plus fliming as well can also be very bad teaching around social media. People repeat what they see and always more often climbing and its safety measures are taken as granted. Would just be great to teach around instead proper way to descend with plenty of backups and room for fun. At least that’s my point of view

It makes for a very dynamic descent, No ?... but I fail to see the purpose. I am assuming that is a single rope looped thru a carabiner or ring-something at the top? If something happens to the pardner, that rope will zing up and the other rappeller will fall, until the end knot, if one is there, stops it all (?).... what is the purpose ?... if these two want to rappel side by side, why not two separate static lines ? I hate the thought of my life hanging my the actions of my fellow climber when it is so- not necessary. Personally I have enough to keep together when technical climbing not to be Hot Dogging in dangerous unnecessary rappels.

@@antoniosanna2292 I totally agree people watch videos and think that's the proper way to do it and then they get killed

Damn. Very dangerous simul-rappel. No friction hitch backup. No leash connecting you to your partner. The selfie stick really adds to the stupidity. Your also putting your friend in danger. No bueno
