Simplicity at its Finest - the Formula Junior in AMS2 1.5!

Ойындар

With each release it seems Automobilista 2 gets better and better, and with cars as fun as this its hard to spend time anywhere else! The Formula Junior is one of those cars. On the surface it looks like it could be like any other underpowered trainer, but what you'll find is its much more balanced and provides plenty behind the loud pedal to have fun with.
Pair this beauty with a circuit such as the Nürburgring Südschleife and its a match made in heaven! A vintage racing fan's nirvana!
I use a Next Level Racing cockpit, Fanatec Wheels, Heusinkveld Pedals & Shifters and I love every second of it!

Yea I tried taking the Lotus 49 round Nord and it was just impossibly difficult. Far more difficult than I imagine driving the real car to be. I'm now wondering if iRacing is too real in this regard. In that in a real car you'd get so much feedback about approaching/exceeding the limit, that you could modulate the controls to bring it back into line before losing control. Perhaps other sims which are regarded as better handling offer better (but perhaps more artificial) feedback through the wheel. @@____________________ok

It’s a really cool racing series! Did you buy the car as it was or did you build it yourself? Where are you located? The USA or Europe? Do you drive in an official formula V series or on trackdays only? I’d really love to get I to racing, but I’d like to drive touring cars. I want a Ginetta G40 GT5 but unfortunately you don’t find any used ones. I would prefer the G40R version so I can also drive it on the streets on a nice summer day. I heard you can order them still new from Ginetta made to order but I think I am not able to register it as a new street car anymore with the stupid smog and safety rules who nowadays prevent the registering of new kit cars or other light “prototype” cars became impossible. Even if they are much safer as the regular roadcar and the emissions are totally fine. The rules are just ridiculous, so I have to find an already registered used one to be able to also drive it on the streets. The street and tgGT5 version are basically the same car, just with additional lighting and blinkers. The road version still has the same full rollcage and even more power than the GT5 version, which you can restrict for GT5 use.

@@rolux4853 I was able to find a rental team here in Illinois (USA) and did an SCCA Majors events with them! Thanks for the great video! Re. the "Hot Head" corner: In German it's called "Scharfer Kopf", which is most definitely not "Hot Head". "Scharf" is either "sharp" or "hot", but the latter only ever in the sense of "spicy". A "hot head" would be called "Hitzkopf" in German, a word which derives from heating. As a German native speaker, I would interpret it most likely as a sharp corner on top (on the head) of the hill. That seems to fit how the corner is described, too, as it's a sharp corner immediately after a steep ascent. If you want to have an English name for it, better use "Sharp Head" or "Sharp Hilltop".

"The issue" was that there were actually two different tire models that were acting on the vehicles in the game and the sim was constantly switching back and forth between the two, which was causing weird oscillations. The legacy model was hidden in the code somehow and once they removed it things started to make a lot more sense.

  • @MsZeeZed

The “somehow”happens when old code isn’t notated and then the inheritors don’t know tire model from baseline vector physics. An issue where corporate owned code is based on an individual’s inspired creation, often for a smaller company, that they didn’t notate to stay on the payroll. This is a more common issue than most corporations would like to admit, but its mostly on the out.

Worth noting that even after it was broken into Formula 2 and 3, both categories retained the 1.0-litre engine limit. The only difference was that F3 engines had to be production-based and use pushrods and (I think) two valves, whereas Formula 2 cars were free to use bespoke racing engines with overhead cams and four valves (not for nothing were they nicknamed Screamers!). It might be remembered as a failure, but Formula Junior lasted a lot longer than people think, from a certain point of view.

@GPLaps "Junior", in this case, is spelled like in "EE-unior", as Latin does. Yes, Formula Junior was born in Italy and we wanted to keep a stamp on things... until Lotus and Cooper completely outmatched everyone with ther Ford Anglia 105E engines. I'm quoting Stanguellini, Taraschi and Bandini on that :) In short, between 1958 and 1960 it was an all-out war between Taraschi, Stanguellini, Bandini and Volpini. From '61 the Brits came up swinging... '62 onwards basically nobody could touch Cooper and Lotus. The series was killed by lack of competitors that weren't Brits in 1964. The 105E Ford Anglia engines were *that* untouchable.

I agree, however One part of the AMS2 multiplayer that I think is undersold is how easy it is to hop in with your friends and do some laps vs A.I.. In no other sim can you send 1 invite and begin racing with your friend, and I think that is amazing, hope they never change that. But I do hope that we can get some expansion on the competitve latter that is clearly hinted towards in the game (with ur rating and such.) If I could hop into a race like I can in iRacing or ACC, while being able to casually vibe with my tm8 in a private lobby, i'd be in heaven with AMS2. Most exciting sim out rn imo.

Cars of the "Junior" formula are one-seater racing cars, whereof the fundamental elements are derived from a touring car recognised as such by the F.I.A. (minimum production 1000 units in 12 consecutive months) a. Minimum wheelbase 200cm b. Minimum track 110cm c. Maximum width of body 95cm (measured outside) d. Maximum engine cylinder capacity 1100cc e. Minimum weight 400kgs the limit however is reduced to 360kgs for cars with a cylinder capacity of 1000cc or less. The above mentioned weight shall be measured with the car in running order, with all accessories required by these regulations but with dry fuel tank(s). a. The cylinder block, including the cylinder head and cylinders (if the latter are removable) must be those of the engine belonging to a car classed by the F.I.A. in the touring capacity. b. The gear box must be that of an F.I.A. recognised touring car. Complete freedom is left with regard to the number and staging of gear ratios. c. The breaking system and principles (viz. drum brakes or disc breaks) must remain the same as on the car from which is taken the engine. d. The system and principle of feeding (by carburettor or by injection) must be the same as on the car which is taken the engine. e. The cylinder capacities specified in the present regulations may be achieved by modifying the original bore (increase or reduction). No modification of the stroke is permitted. The car must have an automatic starter. The body, open and offering only one seat, shall comprise, around the pilots seat, an anti-roll bar, protecting him from being crushed should the car turn over. There shall also be a protective device against fire as required by the International Sporting Code (Art. 125) The supplementary regulations of the events may provide that an efficient silencer is compulsory. It is not permitted: a. To use an engine with one or more overhead camshaft. b. To use a self locking differential. c. To change the number of crankshaft bearings. d. To change the location of the camshaft. Only commercial fuel, as defined by the F.I.A. shall be used.

For sure its a fun simcade game - but rFactor 2 is superior in so many ways and a real simulation - at least with official cars and tracks!

rFactor 1 looking better than ever! Jokes aside, I'm starting to get intrigued by what the Brasilian bootlegger studio has done to thier botched copy of PCars2.

Been addicted to driving the Formula Junior! I love this thing. Been grinding the time trials and got #7 so far on the Sudschleife (my username is guy ferrari). I think the new update made the Formula Junior slower though, so I feel Reiza should clear the leaderboards. Regardless, thanks for the great video!
