It's crazy how well the racing in GPL still holds up. Seriously exciting stuff, 25 years later.

Strange to think that we're only six years away from Grand Prix Legends being as old as the 1967 F1 season was in 1998 when GPL was released. Time has sure flown by.

I can even think of how many hundreds of laps I’ve done at Monza as a kid playing GPL for years. Brings back a lot of memories!

I love this 66 series so much! What race at was this Italian Grand Prix. I expected a good race, but nothing could prepare me for this! But now with Surtees taking the second place in the championship, Axelson have two crucial races in the Americas.

Looking at the 1966 racing calendar…it’s Can-Am time in the Axelsonverse!

This was a real nail biter! Great work keeping it together!

Monza was the first GPL track i tried online back in the early 2000's. Seeing you drive reminds me of that, although the graphics nowadays have been improved big time. I tried installing the latest version recently but discovered that all my old setups are incompatible. So i gave up coming back to this wonderful sim. My favo car was always the eagle.

How can GPL, a game from 25 years ago have such good AI yet many heavy hitters from today still really struggle with it? Think I might have to get back into GPL, this race at Monza reminded me of my old Sunday afternoon online races on GPL at Monza, key was always avoid the standard mass start line crash to actually get into the race then slipstream my way up the field.

I still dream of those nights spent on VROC 20 years ago, the chats, the servers crowded with people (and yes Monza was always the most crowded). I still have in my ears that "Hold on to your butts!" opening VROC!!!! Great great memories!!! Thank you GPL!!!!!!!!

Simpler games with simpler physics models probably demand less complexity for a good AI experience, I think that explains a bit of why the old games seem to have better AI. Also, they had actual time to develop games and offline AI racing was the main game mode, as opposed to online racing nowadays.

Would love to see a Ginther-Axelson honda team for 1967 :p

Still loving this game and I had one of the best online races in there. And also did couple of texture updates for various tracks. And some car skins. Good old times :)

I "HATE" the Eagle...although Monza was one of my early favorite tracks way back in the 90's. I never had any luck with the Eagle "auto clutching" because the early wheal/peddles didn't come with a clutch peddle or force feedback, mine didn't anyway and always popped the motor. It did have a sequential shifter. Good driving though, as usual! Nice video!

Wow, I can't believe this is GPL. I've modded it to look like this myself but I still thought maybe this was AMS or something. I bought my first PC in 1997 with specs solely so I could run this game. My first sim, and without FFB, just a spring loaded Thrustmaster. In fact my nickname, "F1Jones," was created with it when I setup my isp. It was the off-season and I was jonesing for F1 to start. Lol

Yeah Robert Duvall is gonna be pissed at you after he looks at the tell-tale needle post-race. 🤣

I wonder if GPL will get a Nvidia Remix treatment with Ray Tracing to have proper lighting.

On the subject of the BRM H16 engines, i've been hoping that someday, someone does an accurate sound mod for it because it's such a nice, unique bassy sound it has if you hear what it sounds like irl.

Not only for Jake but for anyone playing the game: every time I do a race if I (or someone from the AI) go off track on the 1st lap the game puts us back 1 lap, so even if I'm first I end up a lap down. Does it even occur to you?

you cannot advance directly from qualifying to the race after accelerating time on some tracks. at the start of the race session exit the race but click the ‘yes’ for save grid. then immediately reenter the race and all will work perfectly

Since it's a slipstreaming track...why worry about blocking the guy behind? If he gets the run, let him give you the slipstream and then get him later? Don't you want your PACK to catch the front runners? Pretty sure you are faster in a pack that out front of your pack...right?
