Simplex SP24. Fab depth, separation, balance. 2.77 and new coil are a perfect match.

Lori tries out new 9.5 x 5 inch Double D coil- the SP24- on the iron infested croft trackway.
How do the signals sound?
What does the VDI do?
Can it separate out anything good from the TONS of iron in the ground?
How is the balance, what sensitivity can we use, how is the falsing?
Come along with me with as I FINALLY get out again- with my beloved Simplex.

    johnny green Thank you Johnny, I am glad they are useful to new detectorists and new Simplex users. I remember very well how hard it is when you first start, so much to remember, and so many questions. I hope my videos answer those questions and ones they haven’t even thought of yet. That’s my intention, anyway. Let me know how you get on, happy hunting!

    Hi Lori, great to listen and watch another of your videos. For me, who usually has plenty to say, I am, at last quiet; which is great, no doubt! Quiet, because there is nothing to add. For me, this is a really top-drawer instructional video. Your detecting technique with this coil is spot on, so too your presentation and delivery of information. Stay safe, take care, and keep up your excellent work please.

Someday we will be able to meet up in person, and I can’t wait to get a proper critique and tutorial from one of my two gurus (the other is in USA not likely to meet him!). You and Terry Knipshield have taught me so much, and I look forward to learning so I h more from you. Thank you so much for the compliments though, you made my week!

    Hi Lori, Yet another very informative video :) i was in two minds about which new coil to get but i think it will be the SP24 now as i am sure it will be a lot easier on stubble too which is an added bonus. By the way i hope you like the Simplex VDI chart i have posted on facebook. I hope it helps people a little.

Thank you for the vdi chart, I did see it, and I’ll make sure to mention it on my next video. There are lots of folks looking for a vdi chart, and it took a lot of work to make that. On behalf of the Simplex community- thank you! :D

    Morning Lori, you're digging assistant a day off? I wonder how that coil is performing on field mode, is it quicker then the old coil(recovery) i was yesterday on a large pasture with a new layer of topsoil, so the targets are quite deep, is it possible to swing faster with the new coil in field mode so you can search faster and cover more ground? Great view on the road to the iron mine!! Keep on hunting!!

    michel faber Hi Michael, my daughter and hubby were off doing other things- probably good as I find it hard to film when my daughter is with me. She is 17 and even through she is supportive, I know what she is thinking. :D The coil is faster, I think. I keep forgetting and find myself defaulting to my previous speeds, and the machine works just fine. I’ll check out field the next time I’m out ( I must keep a list of things I’m going to check out, or I’ll never remember). I think the bigger coil will by physical nature see deeper, but then again, I’m sure the 2.76 changes were done specifically to make the new coils exceptional, balancing the losses to the stock coil with gains to smaller one. And I think it works MUCH better than bigger one. :)

  • @thesimplexguru1263

    @thesimplexguru1263

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Manuel, thank you for your comment. I haven't used the SP22, I bought the SP 24 because I felt the SP22 was too similar to the stock coil. I don't know of anyone who is using an SP22, but every single person on the groups I am in, who has put the SP24 on their Simplex, has said they are never taking it off again. The SP24 is just the right shape for poking into corners, or between clumps of grass or rows of crops. The round shape of the SP22 wouldn't work as well in these areas. I think it might be good in water, as the shape might move through water better. But unless that is your primary detecting use, I don't see the SP22 having any advantages over the SP24, and I would not been surprised if Nokta stops making the SP22 due to lack of sales. If you decide to go with an SP22, I would love to know what you think of it. I genuinely know no one who has one. I would ask Nokta for one to review, but I would worry that I couldn't be honest if I didn't find it any use. I will look out for a 2nd hand one, I may be able to get it cheap enough and then I can say what I think. Thanks for getting in touch. :)

    Which coil gives you the most depth. Sp24 or the original 11 inch that it came with?

  • @thesimplexguru1263

    @thesimplexguru1263

    3 жыл бұрын

    Theoretically, a larger coil will give more depth. Because Nokta Makro overpowered the machine with the 2.7x update, the smaller coils are able to be run at full sensitivity, the stock one (generally) can not. I make them equal in depth perception because of this. If you have 2.78, the vdi on the machine is restricted to stable identifications (when using full sensitivity), and the added depth given by the 2.7x update is limited to audio information. In this case, I can only surmise the stock coil vdi will show deeper targets than the sp24 (as you will run both on full sensitivity). This, however, is not showing targets as deep as 2.77 will, although you will hear them. Hope this makes sense. Short answer- in my experience and theory, all coils have equal depth ability in 2.76 and 2.77. In 2.68 and 2.78, the stock coil will read deeper than the smaller coils, but will not show targets as deep the simplex will on 2.76 or 2.77, as it is limited to stable vdi only. It will give you audio feedback for these targets however.

    That dAnNy IMHIM Spot on! You are absolutely correct, the coil cable was way too loose, and this can lead to ghost signals. I have already tightened it but thanks for the reminder. It was just one of those things I forgot about from when I fitted the new coil and the machine was telescoped down. I was so focussed on what I was going to film, and thinking about what I wanted to say, that it escaped my notice. Cheers again. If I hadn’t already rectified it, your comment would have reminded me to check it :)

For beach, the Detech ultimate 13 coil is likely better. But for all else, the SP24 is TOTALLY the best coil for your Simplex (from my experience and feedback I've had from others).

    Hi Grumpy, The path was a challenge, but also had/ has real potential. Sites up here in the Highlands tend to be poor, the area was not wealthy. The best chance of finding lost valuables is where the people were, and here that is the roads and paths. Nails are tricky for most machines, and I think everyone gets caught out at times. This vid was from a while back, and I will be the first to say I am much more experienced with the Simplex now. The 'Guru' name was always intended tongue firmly in cheek :D But, I would also say, if you know your Bounty Hunter, you will always do better than someone who is new to a machine, even the fanciest in the world. The Simplex is what I have learned on, and I know her now, and what she is saying. You are the same on your Bounty, and that is a great thing! Happy hunting and Good luck!
