    @@johnnysweekends the Ecoflow app only shows the charge rate in Watts but you can work backwards from that to get the amps. 850Watts @30V = 28.3A at the solar inputs, @13.3V at the input to the Orion DC to DC the current is about 64A. My alternator can output more than that so I actually have a 460Ah Epoch 12V battery charging from the alternator then the battery connected to the Ecoflow through the Orion DC to DC converters. It’s a messy system but I had bought the Ecoflow Delta 2 Max before I realized what a hassle it would be to charge it from the alternator. In hindsight I would never have bought the Ecoflow unit.

    @@Scat.original there’s no video I know of that details my specific method but there are some that detail how to use a 12v to 24v converter to boost the input wattage into Ecoflow or other systems. It’s fairly straightforward just get 2 Victron Orion 12V to 24 V converters, there is a dial you can turn to up the voltage to 30V. Then hook the output to the Ecoflow solar inputs using an XT60i connector. Make sure you use a genuine XT60i connector as the XT60 connector will be recognized as a low amperage connector and limit you to about 100watts. Also make sure you use thick cables on the input to the Victron Orions as it will be pulling about 70 amps. I got all my parts from Amazon.

    I use a Delta pro max in my 18-wheeler for tv, cooking, etc. It took a while, but I figured out how to get my 1800-watt inverter to recharge my delta pro max. I have it set at 1000w, and it takes around 2 hours if my delta is ever very low. This unit will definitely put a work your alternator so you should be very mindful of that. I obviously have a heavy duty alternator and after an hour or so, I can see my alternator amps begin to dip. The only problem with my setup is that I have to remember to turn off the inverter whenever I shut off my truck, sometimes I forget. Not sure if I need alternator charging but… When I try to use standard 12v 100ah batteries to act as an expansion battery for my delta, I run into the problem of a hard limit. 12v x 8a = 84 watt, be generous and make an even 100 watt. That’s the max dc charge rate I can put into the EcoFlow from a standard battery. With this dcdc charger, I can fully utilize the EcoFlow AC output while still putting a decent amount of energy back in. Or simply letting it do its pass thru charging. This is a cheap alternative to those super expensive expansion batteries.

    I like it. Would be awesome for things like this to start working its way into market. I have seen some folks build a small HP mower type engine with alternators for charging battery banks. But, it would be a great setup if a company made a setup that you can plug into car and charge your off grid battery setups for low power generation days. I like the ecoflow but, since many people already have off grid components in separates would be nice for a universal setup to be used without having a main component as the ecoflow.

Needs to be a 3rd party to make some universal set up. But for those who want quick and easy this is more for them.

I'm not saying it can't be done, or shouldn't be done, but the inefficiency is pretty absurd, when you really look at it. You're using fossil fuel to spin the alternator, which puts DC power into your SLA battery, then you convert that to AC with an inverter, which your power station converts back into DC to charge its battery. You're losing at least 20-30 percent of the actual energy being created in those conversion processes.

    Thank you for this video you just answered a question I had sent to EcoFlow support that they said wasn't possible. I asked about the reverse charging and how that worked. Answer they sent me and I wonder if this was just an AI response if the documentation is still in the works. "Based on the information provided in our documentation, there is no specific mention or guidance on a reverse charging setup that allows the Delta Max 2 to charge house/start batteries directly. Our current product design and documentation primarily focus on charging the Delta Max 2 and its extra batteries through various methods, including solar panels, AC shore power, and alternator charging while driving." "However, your scenario of charging the Delta Max 2 while driving and then using it to charge your house/start batteries when stationary, although innovative, is not directly supported with the current design and accessories. This setup would require additional equipment, or a custom solution not provided by EcoFlow at this time." "We appreciate your innovative approach to utilizing our products and understand the convenience such a setup would offer. Your feedback is invaluable, and we will forward your suggestion to our product development team for consideration in future product designs or updates."

    Not really. Too expensive and limited. $600 for a bi-directional DC-DC charge controller is pretty bad. I got a 50A DC-DC/MPPT controller (does alternator charging as well as solar, all in one and it also charges the starter battery like this one does) and a 2000W pure sine inverter for the same money. 2000W>800W by a lot. If you wanted to power an entire build from Ecoflow products exclusively and you hate wiring I guess this makes sense but anyone who isnt afraid of connecting +/+ and -/- will get more for their money by running some more wires

    Great product makes me hesitant to buy the anker powerhouse 767, but a charger like this selling for 599 might be a bit pricey for what it is. Ecoflow has also released a 500w charger in some region that uses the xt60 connecter, which about 150 bucks, it is a much better deal compare with this one. But from the video this 800w charger seems to use a fanless design, probably thanks to the Gallium Nitride technology that brings less consumption. I probably wouldn't consider buying it in the short term, preferring to wait a year to get the right price or coupon.

    Does the power hub (with power kit) have a feature where it can send power back to the chassis battery via alternator cable?

  • @johnnysweekends

    @johnnysweekends

    It can send back through the DC out at 13.6v or 70amp max. This is the same as just the normal dc out for dc loads but I guess can charge a battery as well. Although I have not tried it. I may send the DC out at 24v then to a battery charger and step down to 12v. So a 24/12V charger. Im changing my setup and getting rid of my on board solar setup for the house battery and adding more solar to dump into power kit and then dump the excess to the house from 48v to 12V so that will actually be easier. So I will run a 15k PK into a 2600wh 12v Battery.

I mean, how do you charge the Extra Battery if there is only one output from the Delta 2, and that is hooked to the alternator charger? 2. Does this unit get hot at all, as I am considering mounting it under the driver's seat. 3. Can the Delta 2 charge via the alternator charger and solar at the same time? I would have it in a more open area if you can. It got warm but not hot in a 45 minute test at full. As far as charging D2 unfortunately there is no way to charge both. So it would be manually or upgrade to D2M…

The D2 and D2 Smart Extra Battery each fit perfectly behind a seat in my 17 Tacoma double cab. The cable between them just fits as well. The D2M is just too wide + the cabling on the side. In most cases a single D2 is more than enough for my needs, but I couldn't pass up a deal on a second D2 + the Smart Extra Battery shipped free for $1099, when the Smart Extra Battery was $750 by itself at the time.

    Curious what the outcome of was for the reverse charging. Did it gradually stop charging and sense when the battery was charged in your Truck? I am contemplating if i should go this route and would be curious to know your thoughts. My setup below. Duramax Shuttle bus with dual alternators feeding a big 400-amp dual isolator with 2 start Batteries on one output and 2 House Batteries on the second output. I also have a Delta 2 Max with one extra battery with 1000 watts of solar coming in. My thought is to run everything 12v related off the House Batteries and everything AC related off the Delta 2 max. it seems like this and the reverse charging capabilities i would be able to keep my house batteries topped off with solar when the Engine isn't running. Only downside I see is not being able to use Lifepo4 batteries for the house batteries but not sure that really matters since my 12-volt load will really be low. Let me know your thoughts on that. Would love some feedback.

    This system is compatible with all battery chemistry’s and will charge the house batteries. Lithium has its own bms so it will stop charging once full. But needs the 14.4 volt to fully top off. So if it only 13.8 max then it may only charge the battery 95%. Not sure. This is still so new and in beta more updates will be coming out. And im sure maybe added features or accessories. Who knows. They added extras to the power kit so will be interesting what else this is doing in 6 months.

So you’ll need to bump that to over $200 for everything roughly. But you are still only going to get 288 watts @ 14v so unless you are hooking up to a 24v system. This is more for the people who want simple, and are willing to pay for that. There is always a cheaper option.

    @@johnnysweekends A price drop would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath (unfortunately). The main units themselves are reasonably priced considering the all-in-one package you're getting, but the accessories in general are quite expensive (not surprising because they've got you in the ecosystem). ex: $54 CAD for the 2.5m XT60i solar charging cable. That's excessive!

    You can charge from 12v socket but only at 126 watts roughly. It’s just a small wire behind the socket so it can’t handle much.

    It’s nice to have 800W output to charge batteries but everyone needs to be warned, 800W is 60 amps coming from the alternator. If the starter battery stays charged when the engine is off it wouldn’t be an issue but if both batteries get drained when engine is off, you will run into overloading the alternator when you start the car.

    I could see that as an issue but I think with proper planning that could be avoided. My plan is to use solar plugged into my delta max 2 to basically keep things topped off when the engine isn’t running. I wouldn’t be surprised if there aren’t any safety features built in to reduce this overload though.

    Sure just like running a AC unit it will put load on the alternator which will transfer to belt and engine. How much? Who knows. Cant imagine more than a 2% difference.

    So many things that are smart are like app base but when the firmware is fully out you will be able to control several features from the alt charger and the Ecoflow device it’s plugged into. But yea the app will still have most the features. A extra dial or button would be nice to increase or decrease charge speed

  • @johnnysweekends

    @johnnysweekends

    A inverter in itself is inefficient and also needs to be direct plugged to a battery verses the 12v socket. Unless you have an onboard inverter in the car then that could be utilized. But there are other cheaper options but much like Apple Ecoflow keeps things simple as a “plug and play “ but at a higher price. But the price has dropped already. And I assume another will be coming.

    $600. I will stick with my $230 50A DC-DC/ MPPT charge controller. This delivers more power but not 2.6X more and this doesnt do anything for solar so its really not a great deal for what it is. If you wanted to power your entire build exclusively from Ecoflow products I guess this might be justifiable but I got my charge controller and 2000W pure sine inverter for this price, and 2000W is a lot more than 800 so this just doesnt make sense to me.

    @@johnnysweekends I definitely understand wanting to use Ecoflow products but as someone with 7 ecoflow devices even I dont see the point unless you just really refuse to have a traditional power system in your build. I have a 5120WH battery that cost me $1000, so that beats the Ecoflow offerings (even refurbished) then the charge option is significantly less expensive as well, and even if I wanted to output 4000W I could easily get a pair of 2000W inverters and come in way under the same budget as Ecoflow. The convenience of Ecoflow in my opinion is that its an all-in-one device which is portable. When you have the restriction of being tethered to a vehicle it just doesnt make sense anymore, at least not to me. I know there are bound to be users who will prefer this for some reason, but short of being sponsored by Ecoflow I cant see ever using this.

    @1FAST91SONOMA Oh agree. I can build a system way less then most any of the options offered by EcoFlow. Where EcoFlow has it, is ease of install and operation. For those that dont want to DIY and want plug and play solutions they are far ahead. But yes you can easily come in way under if you wanna piece together something. I wanted to do a EG4 system in my RV but the specs of everything could not match my solar setup, space and more. Not to mention weight would also be an issue. Was not as easy as I thought it would be. Then I was asked to try the power kit and honestly still impressed. It’s just expensive but it has been dropping in price. I may do a comparison soon because people keep asking.

    @@johnnysweekendsFunny you mention EG4. I have an EG4 server rack battery in my suburban build. I designed the battery compartment for expansion so as needs increase I can expanded up to 4 of those batteries all mounted where the 2nd row used to be, and I can plug the suburban into my house or cabin (i want to build an offgrid cabin soon) to power those locations. Right now it only has the 1 battery and thats plenty for the suburban despite having all the features of an RV including fridge/freezer, microwave, water heater, stove, oven, heat, AC, maxxair fan, starlink, and even a heated mattress.

    @1FAST91SONOMA I wanted to do the server rack but the compartment for the Rv was tight and would have to custom build something so not very diy friendly for people. Then the eg4 or growatt inverters solar input is to high so you miss out on lower voltage solar in the early and late hours. Wall batteries are way too heavy so those also were not gonna work. But there is so much more coming out all the time in 1.5 years your stuff is obsolete lol. But yea I see people build some pretty elaborate stuff for RVs and not taking weight into consideration. No wonder frames are cracking since the front compartment is 300lbs over weight and people driving 75 down Americas best roads 😂
