You are both correct - my chemo-brain got the two techniques confused. Indeed he did etching here. That said, I love both techniques. Old school engraving is spectacular, and some beautiful work is done such as the etching here.

this is absolutely gorgeous. hats off to you, my dude. this is the kind of craftsmanship that USED to fill the world; look at many of the old tools: works of art themselves. good job for preserving that. hope to see more of this kind of thing.

Put this on a set of decent name brand wrenches and have the ultimate gift for a mechanic- guys that turn wrenches for a living would really appreciate this. if I had the money for that kind of luxury I'd be all over it. Good luck man- I hope this goes somewhere for you, your work is phenomenal.

Absolutely beautiful!! You could go one step further; Cut a length of PVC pipe and paint it green to look like a Super Mario portal tunnel. You could place the pipe on the bench, beneath the spot where your wrench currently hangs. Even cut a whole in the table to give the illusion the tunnel goes straight through. That’s what I would do. Keep up the good work!! 😀👍

Art is subjective think of it what you will that's the beautiful part. I think this work is fantastic. Called electroplating. "Electroplating was invented in 1805 by Italian inventor Luigi V. Brugnatelli. He did this by linking a wire between a dissolved gold solution and a battery, also known as a Voltaic pile.
