Larry, if you do put a metal item in vinegar to clean it, make a baking soda and water solution to wash it in thereafter. The baking soda solution neutralizes the vinegar so the item won’t immediately rust again. Just thought I would share that with you. Thanks for the instructional video. ❤LL

As soon as I check wires for positive and negative I tie a knot in the positive wire. The knot kinda looks like a plus sign. Those red and black sleeves sometimes aren't supplied with clips. Good video.

From my understanding any of these will work as they are just a low voltage charger but the amperage doesn't seem to be a big issue.

The higher the current rating the better but with these small chargers you are not going to get a lot of difference. The higher current will clean the fastest but you have to pay attention to the solution mix ratio. If you use too much baking or washing soda it will draw too much current and burn out the charger.

Under all that corrosion layer on your coin is not the same as if it were dropped right out of the mint back in the turn of the century. The brass will leave microscopic scratches so don't try to sell it but it will be a lot better to look at than electrolysis.

My concern regarding electrolysis is the potential for removing or plating metal to the object. From my civil war collecting days, we learned that soaking brass/copper items in household ammonia for several days will remove a significant amount of dirt without harming the platina and thus preserving the value. As for iron items, soaking in a sodium hydroxide solution while surrounded by zinc metal will remove the rust while preserving the iron. Some have even been able to regain movement afterwards. Try this approach and see how you think it works relative to electrolysis.

The reason the charger was getting hot is you have too much baking soda in the solution. The suggested amount is one heaping table spoon to a gallon water. At least that is for washing soda. You can get away with a little more baking soda because it conducts less current than washing soda. I would suggest about a tea spoon next time and add more if needed. And yes it will not work as fast..LOL...
