Will the electrolosis work on Copper Coins as well ?

yes and no. With Copper being a more metal, electrolysis will likely result in more damage being caused- if you have a crusty penny (that isn't a valuable date) it is worth a try.

James, if you want to add a natural looking black patina to your coins, pop them in a small Ziploc bag with a mashed hard boiled egg and leave for a few hours or over night....The coins will go black and then you can give them a light polish with a liquid silver polish and just remove some of the black off the raised parts of the coin...Works a treat!

Hi Tim, just water. Distilled water is best but tap water will work

Hi CBK, does it corrode the coin at all? I have very thin early shilling from 1914, and it is very worn and brown dark coloured.

it can damage the coin if you over do it- so best to do only on coins that are not key dates or rare (do your homework first!) and best done for short bursts, until you get it clean- don't set it up and leave it unattended!

it really depends on the item- with coins or other items that may carry a high $ value, taking it to a precious metal buyer to have XRF tested would be best. If it is jewellery or a decorative item and you can not see any hallmarks, there are silver / gold test kits that can be purchased- they have different test acids / solutions that when a drop is placed on the item will react in a known way if it silver vs silver plated etc
