This is what we're being taught in maya right now through the node system. Havent gotten the hang of it yet

Hey man I am trying to learn Maya too. Is the node system for this very long or are there a similar amount of steps to this?
I used exactly this technique in a commercial music video I did recently, very simple to use!

Useful information, I'll forget it by tomorrow.

With different size gears how would you configure them to rotate at different speeds? Is that what "influence" is for?
Is there a way to multiply the input rotation for different gear ratios?
@leperleep7125
Жыл бұрын
Driving or just changing the influence parameter
@DonVitoCS2workshop
Жыл бұрын
Put your gear in a ratio calculator and either divide or multiply your copy threshold by a specific factor. The default threshold is obviously using a 1:1 ratio, so you will then get a idk 0.23:1 ratio by dividing Also I recommend using drivers instead, you will find copy rotation tutorials for drivers too

what if the gears have different numbers of teeth
Is it possible to do without "copy rotation"? With collision

so can you explain please, I don't understand what do you mean

@@BlenderArt (sorry for bad English) what if add on the gears collision? I think it makes gears solid, and they must influence on each other. It must be more physical. Understand?

@@BlenderArt he means can you make the gears physically affect and collide with each other to rotate
@DonVitoCS2workshop

Honestly don't do it, it will very quickly start having weird problems like jittering or getting stuck, especially if you start to use custom gear shapes. It will usually look way more realistic if you just copy rotation. If you need multiple gear sizes you can put their values in a gear ratio calculator online and then divide or multiply your rotation threshold, values or whatever you will need. Also you can use a driver with the same function (easy tutorials online)
Do you have an Idea how i can copy the rotation to a gear thats not rotating around the same axis? For example 2 conected gear but one rotates around x and the other around z.

I just tried couldn't figure it out. i did it using geometry nodes and that worked though
I don't know if this will work if the gears are different sizes
@BlenderArt
Жыл бұрын
it's gonna work.. Don't change the pivot point... so move in the object mode.. if you wanna scale you can do that in the Edit mode also keep that in mind the size of the gears are very important think how it works in reality..

@@BlenderArt If gear A spins gear B with A rotating by an angle theta_A, then you can expect that theta_B = theta_A * (radius_A / radius_B)
I tried it one day but with rigid and passive bodies, it turned out badly..
what if you change the size
I prefer doing this with drivers. Its kinda complicared to get the math right, but its better for a large variety of gears
Version..???
