Simone Biles Seemingly Responds To Olympian MyKayla Skinner’s Comments About Olympic Team

Ойын-сауық

Simone Biles is defending her team. The three-time Olympic gymnast seemingly weighed in on MyKalya Skinner’s recent controversial comments about the 2024 gymnastics Olympic team. Although the 28-year-old didn’t mention the silver Olympic medalist by name, she wrote on Threads, “not everyone needs a mic and a platform.” The post came after MyKayla sparked controversy in a since-deleted KZread video where she said, “Besides Simone, I feel like the talent and depth just isn’t like what it used to be.” Since her video sparked backlash, MyKayla has apologized and clarified her comments in a video shared to her Instagram Story on July 3. MyKayla traveled with Simone to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo and won silver on the vault. This time Simone is back for her third Olympics with Suni Lee, Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles and Hezly Rivera. The team is already highly decorated. Simone has seven Olympics medals. Suni, Jordan and Jade are now two-time Olympians after competing in the 2020 Olympic games where Suni won gold in the women all-around. You can watch Team USA compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics starting July 26th on NBC and Peacock.

    Honestly I think the depth in USA gymnastics has actually gotten deeper over the last few years. Skinner would not have been a factor these days. She was a mediocre gymnast who got lucky that Simone pulled out so she could compete in vault. She isn’t the brightest person and has always been the type to put her foot in her mouth. The way she kept going on about Suni’s body type was unnecessary as well.

    For her to question the work ethic of a gymnast makes me wonder if you even know your own sport. These young women have to committed in order to be succesful. You have to put in the time at an early age and be consistent throughout. It's not a sport where you can coast on raw talent. It has to be developed from a young age. Suni is the Olympic all-around champion, Jade is the floor gold medalist and would have likely medaled on the vault if she didn't have a misstep, not to mention here vaults have more amplitude and have better form than Skinners. If you put those three up in a three up, three count scenario, they will have some of the highest scores, if not the highest scores in the competition. Chiles is a very consistent, solid athlete all-around athlete with more overall difficulty than Skinner, and Hezly is the junior champion, better than Skinner on bars and beam. The events that Skinner could have contributed with in the team competition - Vault and Floor are already accounted for.

    There is no room in anything she said for misinterpretation. The fact that she tries to justify the abuse that used to occur under USAG and the Karolyis is simply shocking. There is no place for abuse in any sport and it isn’t going to turn out better athletes. If it wasn’t for Simone Biles coach then there would have been no Simone had she been under the full control of the Karolyis. Not everyone flourishes under that kind of abuse. Simone struggled under the Karolyis and it was only her coach which stepped in to protect her which stopped her going under completely. Those women on the current team have worked so hard and come through their own individual struggles to get onto the team. They earned their place on the team and she had no right to question their place nor does she have the right to fat shame or judge their performance. From what I remember of her performance she was always trying to push the boundaries but it was always a mess and she could never pull it off.

    You wouldn't even know MS was an Olympian/NCAA athlete. I think it's merely sour grapes because three have successfully sandwiched NCAA careers between two Olympic Team memberships. The salt is real on the 2x Alternate, who has leveraged her career quite well. It seems she holds deep resentment for the blessings, lacking in gratitude for the favor bestowed upon her in exchange for relishing in favor of others. Being an alternate who bagged a silver medal on vault is not to spat on. Many Olympians return home with the experience and are grateful for achieving qualifications when so many can only dream of putting together a successful journey towards it. But it all goes to show you that you can have a bucket of sand and someone who owns an entire paradise island can still envy your bucket of sand.

    Mykayla Skinner is pathetic. She has always been an alternate. 2014 is the only world team she made where she actually competed. She won only 1 individual medal at worlds; a bronze on vault. She made the 2016 Olympic team as an alternate and thought she should have made the main team over Gabby Douglass, despite the fact she had nothing to offer the team. Her two “strengths” of vault and floor were covered. And her execution is horrible. Tim Dagget said it right: her routines were too hard for her. She has no empathy or sympathy for the young women that were injured and only saw that she might - have finally- made the main team! And she wouldn’t have. Hezely Rivera might not have the highest difficulty but her execution is amazing. She still would have been picked over Skinner even if Skinner came in 5th.

    Simone is 27 born 3/14/1997 and is the oldest female Artistic Gymnast to make the US Women's Gymnastic team for the Olympics in 72 yrs. since Marian Barone did aged 28 for Helsinki Olympics in 1952 and only the 2nd Woman Of Color to make 3 consecutive Olympic teams behind Dominique Dawes who did so for Barcelona 1992 Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000 and was a couple months short of her 24th birthday when the team won Bronze in Team All Around at Sydney on Sept 20th 2000 individual all around medals were awarded on 21st September and the individual Apparatus medals were handed out on Sept 23 and 25th if I remember Correctly it would be nice to see the men's team win team all around Gold again they haven't in 40 yrs. since Los Angeles in 1984 though that team did have some Icons on it such as Bart Conner Tim Daggett and Mitch Gaylord. also Women on Uneven Bars do the Gaylord Flip and connect it to a release move like a Hindorff or Khorkina not another flip like a Comaneci named after Nadia who is married to Bart Conner and they have an 18 year old son Dylan who is also a Gymnast not the only former Olympians child to be eligible for the team this year so was Dominique Moceanu's Daughter Carmen born Dec 25th 2007 and her son Vincent is eligible for the men's team in 2028 as he was born March 13th 2009 naturally guys are taller/heavier than the girls for instance Simone Biles is 4 Ft 8 in and 104 LBs while Bart Conner when he was competing was 1.6764 m or 5 Ft 6 in and 140 LBs of course you shrink with age and injury Bart is 5 Ft 3 in now of course Simone like Shannon Miller is a 7 time Olympic Medalist 4 Gold 1 Silver 2 Bronze while Millers are 2 Silver 3 Bronze 2 Gold funny enough Miller's highest score in 1992 was on uneven bars 9.96 .4 off of Gold on that event and .2 off silver which was Tatiana Gutsu of Unified team who was 6 mos. older than Miller their birthdays are Sept 5th 1976 and March 10th 1977 respectively also Tatiana was 4 Ft 11 in while Miller was 4 Ft 6 in tall at 15 years old and was 5 Ft 1 in in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics had Shannon Miller not dislocated her knee at the trials in 2000 she would've made her 3rd Olympic team and won team Bronze again and maybe Gold on Beam and Floor which would've given her 10 medals which would've tied her for 3rd place with Agnes Keleti of Hungary and Polina Ashtakova of Soviet Union instead of in a 6 way tie for 6th place with 7

    Id really like to give Makayla the benefit of the doubt, but this was really bad. I do not think she purposely meant to hurt anyone. But she was a little judgmental and opinionated. But sport has changed.She's absolutely right and granted.There's probably some snowflakes out there.However, the girls that made the team and all of the ones that I see trained so hard for almost their entire lives.And they deserve the accolades they recei.Don't think there's a work ethic issue. The sport has changed for the longevity of the athlete as well as their current competitive health and well being

    The quality declined because the farm of talent had dried up and left. Trust was broken. Other options and paths to success. Talent will be there because the kids will still reach for it if their parents/sponsors apply the investment. But many more will go to college and brand themselves away from the Olympic path and take their dreams elsewhere. After #LA28, the US will be sending more indiv. specialists in years to come. This is happening globally. US colleges are recruiting international gymnasts through world events that occur annually, to come to their sports programs too.

  • @sagemoonchild333

    @sagemoonchild333

    3 күн бұрын

    The twisties is a real thing so WTF are you talking about? Simone pulled out of competition because she couldn’t twist. Had she continued competing, she would’ve taken the US team out of medal contention completely. She did the right thing, and the team won silver. In fact,every U.S. gymnast won at least one medal because of Simone’s decision ….including skinner. Biles won bronze on beam after changing her dismount to a non twisting dismount. She pulled out of every other event she qualified for. This was never about someone being better than her. She did what was necessary for her own personal safety AND THE GOOD OF THE TEAM. If you don’t know what you’re talking about, it’s best to just be quiet instead of propagating misinformation. Competing with the Twisties is dangerous. And if Simone didn’t stop competing, her eventual scores would’ve made sure team USA came home with nothing. And that’s if she didn’t end up in the hospital or worse.

Some of you only seem to understand an athlete’s pain when you see them collapse on stage or get wheeled off due to injury. That mentality is sickening. Learn to unlearn your biases and find peace. This conversation is about something entirely different, and no one is talking about Tokyo anymore.” Your criticism of Biles for her past struggles with the twisties is misplaced you are on your own.
