I'm so proud of her for recognizing that she needed a break. Had she tried to pushed through may have caused her serious injury. It takes a brave person to openly admit that she was struggling. Glad she is doing better. Can't wait to see her in Paris!❤

@@aftertheheadlines she was self aware and smart enough to know it wasn't safe to keep going. With the level of difficulty of her routines, she can't afford to stupidly go out there and still try to perform. It would've meant low scores for her team and possible life threatening injury for her. They have alternates on the team ready to step in.

@aftertheheadlines how was she selfish? The reason she made the team because her scores were high enough to make the team during the trials. If you watched the trials that year, you can see she struggled too but still managed to make it. If she had quit, she would've packed her stuff and head to the US on a plane.

I don't think that America hated her after that preformance in 2021 at Olympics many of her fans knew she was struggling. Once she withdrew from the Olympics a small minority started to hate on her so the opposite happened unforunately.

Simone, you are a fierce and intelligent warrior, human being and athlete! You are absolutely extremely loved and admired and there is no need whatsoever to apologize for taking care of your mind, body and spirit. I live with complex PTSD. I was also a gymnast. I have survived several traumas. It took me 34 years to talk about the traumas. Therapy really does work! The way you stand up for yourself and others is absolutely amazing and SO much braver than most people understand. Staying in shape helps with overall health at whatever level you choose! There will come a time, you will know, when to retire. You are the best! It will all be okay. Others may never understand, but that is okay. You have probably saved so many lives by speaking out ... thank you! ❤

The severity of mental illness affects more people than reported. Most of these individuals suffer in silence for fear of being judged and alienated because it’s so misunderstood. Some disorders like Bi Polar for example don’t have a cure. There might be medications that help but it’s an ongoing painful struggle. Imagine trying to fit in… Please don’t be so quick to judge😢❤

It's good she is getting the help and she's back on top. I'm sure it was a multitude of reasons but I also think one is she put so much pressure on herself and also bought into the whole GOAT thing. I found putting the GOAT on her leotard and setting herself up so that anything but a win was failure was probably too much. I think its best to let your actions speak for themselves. Love her as an athlete but found that a little off putting... Glad to see she seems to be beyond that now.

I think people don't realise that actually most of sports performance, especially in competitive situations, is mental. So good for her for caring for her mental health - especially because with something like gymnastics having to perform like that when you have a mental block can be extremely dangerous.

It's not that anyone ever hated her or felt she let the country down. She didn't. It's that the chance of gaining an Olympic spot is pretty much impossible. For the entire country there are usually between 4-7 spots. The issue people had is they feel she robbed someone of a spot who has worked their entire life and missed out, only to see that spot wasted. No one could have predicted the issues at the Olympics. But she would have known leading up to it her mental state wasn't in a good place and withdrew from selection. Her life was not worth a gold medal so she did the correct thing by stopping, there is no dispute about that
