Simon is 100% correct. Fans get a vote, but they vote with their pounds. If they don't like it, stop paying for it -- and the people who chase those pounds will listen. Anything short of that is just emotional outbursts by people trying to use a power they simply don't have.

Where is martin o'neil getting these var stats from when footballs subjective, how can you say they get 96% correct?

The fans are also stakeholders of the game and are quite right to have an input on all decisions that centre around the governance of the game.

Fans should be heard but I wouldnt take Mike from the pub into a board room to make decisions. Even football managers need a director of football, a specialist in that area. Most football fans are just tribal heathens begging their team to provide them a sense of meaning. That isnt someone that should be in a board room or a coaching session.

Spot on mate , people working their regular jobs be telling people in football who’ve done this their whole life and are the 0.01% of the people to make it in the game what and how to do in absolute ways , opinions should be allowed and listened for sure and the game belongs to fans but critical and decisive insights and decisions should be made by calm and professional people

Let's do an eye test on Sunday. Of all the goals scored, how many are not celebrated by players for fear that VAR is going to chalk off the goal?

Where did he get the stat about correct decisions? Who decided which were correct?

96% only according to PGMoL and the Prem. Until that stat is verified by a 3rd party it’s utterly worthless

Careful what you wish for!! How will taking VAR improve overall decisions ? look at the UCL Semi Final between RM va BM, that will happen every week.

Fans do have a right to have their say about anything football related however supporters groups shouldn't feel entitled to be consulted about decisions made behind the scenes. They don't have the right to demand to be informed about what happens with VAR.

VAR is like going to a fish and chip shop and finding out your fish is actually battered tofu. The chips are the same, the batter is the same but the main ingredient, the fish is gone. Sorry, they have changed the product before my eye and are still expecting me to pay for it. I am the customer for gods sake, I want my product back. If I wanted to watch a video game I would have brought a PS5.

He’s a former club chairman and his comments illustrate how supporters are viewed by those who are in a position of power in the game. Without the fans football is nothing so they tell us. Often their actions contradict that.

If you take out the decisions for offside, there cannot be a 14% swing. Var simply doesn't correctly overturn an average of 14% of all decisions per game. You must also take into consideration the amount of responsibility they must take for incorrect decisions they don't overturn because they are not deemed "clear and obvious". Therefore the technology for automated offsides solves the problem. No more waiting around for fans for a system that outside of offsides impacts the decision making in a game a tiny amount and a lot of the time poorly.

Right! Because they deem at times that the on field is in a good position to see the incident so it isn’t a “clear and obvious “ so we just stick with the on field. Or the “ if it was given it wouldn’t be overturned, and if it wasn’t VAR won’t step in” hate that. It either is or it isn’t

I'm with Simon on this one, of course you must consider the fans on every decision, they are the heart and soul of the game in the end. But... I don't think fans should have a call on this decisions, or any other decision for the club, that's why they have managers and people capable of taking those decisions for the better of the club. If fans have a call no team will be able to manage itself if they need to hear every single fan before making a move.

Exactly this. Fans don’t have a right anyway because they’re simply consumers of a product who choose to keep finding the sport by choice. It would be hugely impractical anyway. No one who says fans have a right ever explain how it would actually work and how fans would be represented.

PGMOL, The Premiership and clubs feel the same way, Simon is just saying it out loud.

And Pundits do? If fans shouldn't have a say then just retire the damn game which means Simon Jordan's job is over!

The game at this level only exists due to the fans. Therefore, the fans are the backbone of the league and the game in general, the majority of the money in the game is pumped into the game by the fan. Fans should be allowed to have a say one way or another. VAR is a great idea, but its not being used for what it was introduced for. Get the ref and var mic'ed up and let the crowd hear it. I also think ex players are better placed to run VAR alongside an official.

Simon and TalkSport and other media in general despise the fans. Remember who pays your salary.

If fans were strong enough to give up their season tickets and stop paying for sky that would be having a say. I have only been to maybe three live matches since 2003. Those games were only when a relative couldn’t use their season ticket. Otherwise I wouldn’t go. I grew tired of the hate chanting against Liverpool people that passes for banter and the way in which football is moving.

Offside is fine as it is. Semi automated will or should completely irradicate the wait time after a goals scored.. what needs to be fixed is the handball inconsistencies and the inconsistent decisions as to what's a foul, dissent, time wasting etc.. all of which would be easily resolved if you sit and think for 30 seconds

@@eiler1987 I don't have an issue with looking for a foul in the build up. So long as its within 15 seconds of a goal. Any longer than that its a different phase of play imo. In football 15 seconds is a long time 🤣 an as ive stated the semi automated offside will basically irradicate that as it will be automatically done as its happening..

The more I watch games in the championship and lower down the pyramid, the more I despise VAR, abolish it until its working as it was intended too

Simon has right to say that fans have no right to say yes/no to VAR. Fans have right to say that Simon is an idiot, just like those people who want to keep VAR alive. It's the a matter of freedom of speech (which Simon failed to advocate). Although freedom of speech is bad for every business controlled by oligarchs. Football today is a matter of that kind of business model. A business that won't survive without fans. Anyway, I'm using my right to say whatever I want to say. And for sure, Simon will say: "Every right comes with consequences."

I like SJ on certain things but he really does look down on the ordinary fan. The most important person in football is the fan. If there’s no bums on seats or viewers at home, then there’s no advertisement. No advertisement, means no lucrative TV revenue. No TV revenue, then very little income. Very little income, then no big salaries. Never forget just how powerful you are as a football fan. And f-k the opinions of these people that literally cannot run a football club and have to sell it for a pound 😂

Well here's an idea then, get the fans to buy out the clubs and become their owners, then they can their say as much as they want, job done. Alternatively, vote with their feet and stop going to matches. The issue is that every fan has his, her, or its, own individual agenda, but actually put them in position to decisions within a business that they have little actual understanding of [as opposed to an opinion on] and watch it turn to rat manure at a rapid rate of knots.

I think the best way to use VAR is like it is being done in cricket. You let the team who feel aggrieved decide when they want to invoke it. And give limited chances for when you can call for VAR.

How would you have a system where fans are involved in the decision making process? How would you define who is and isn’t a fan and how would they be represented?

Maybe fans need to put together their own football league without the greed and alienation of the reason football exists?
