Silversmithing: from file to polish.
G’day everyone, I hope you’re all well! In this video we’ll be making some rings and pendants. While we start from scratch, I’ll be trying to explain the clean up process from file to polish, even though it starts from the beginning. I hope it helps make a few things make sense, if you have anything to add, share or questions, leave a comment and I’ll try to respond. I hope you enjoy, thanks for your time. 🤪👍

I really love the ideas for those of us who dont have all the fancy equipment. The nails for texture was a great idea.
A really fantastic job with a really nice clean professional finish you just don’t realise how much time and effort goes into making beautiful pieces like these well done 🪨👍
About 10 years ago, I made a silver bezel mount. No stone, just silver, and it was pretty pathetic. Very pathetic. My jewelry making career ended that day. You did a fantastic job with those stones and settings. Very impressive opal jewelry! Thanks for showing us how you do it! dp

You are very talented,I look forward to giving ring making a go once I get an opal worth mounting that is! I really appreciate your instruction on every step and same with opal information, great channel.thanks from NZ
Well done Phil. All three finished looked fabulous.❤
They all turned out great. very happy with mine. Great video for the silver smithing enthusiasts. Cheers Phil
Nicely done🤘 The clicking sound is always scary lmao. Thanks for showing each step in detail, much appreciated 👍 Hope y'all are well and best of luck on the next project.
Both sound and picture here, if it helps now! Beautiful opals and i you are so talanted Phil 👋💎👍 with silversmithing ( and i know with gold too )!
Phil you have delivered some great education here. That is a lot of vid. Good on ya giving us this content that is some effort. I am sure it inspires a few to make their own pieces. I am not one to endeavour making jewellery pieces just yet but you have shown a way and I will have a go with time. Thanks a lot
Big job mate 👌 😊 never new how much work was involved. The three pieces look fantastic and beautiful 😍 from Harry 👍
Thanks for Philling me in on how it is done. Learning so much.

Great video Phil! Thanks. Was good to see the little details. Great idea to touch on that
Phil, great timing with the video drop! Caught COVID on way back from a vacay. Don’t have the energy to walk to my shop to cut opal, but can watch your video instead!

G’day mate, I hope you fight it off quickly, it’s a damn nuisance. 🤪👍
Wow, a long form video PACKED with lots of valuable information. Nice, thanks Phil. I really like the way they all turned out. This video did give youtube a LOT of opportunity to show ads. I tried to watch as many as I could all the way through. Even I have limits though.

KZread has a one size fits all approach to advertising, I’d like to be able to cut the ads out during certain videos and have them at the beginning and end.
Great to watch, Phil. I’m learning a lot!
Love the texturing the band thing with nails ,that's really cool ,I often look at pre textured Sterling we can buy and a lot of it looks naf ,much better to create your own texture, each piece is unique, and everything hand worked,,great post ,cheers,

great work mate good to see the free form shape set in pendant should be more of it insted of ovals and round shapes no other like that
That was Brilliant! I enjoyed every minute of it and then the jewelry came out fantastic.
Great tutorial video, thanks 😊
Great detailed video. Thanks.
Nice video on how to shape and make Bezels and Rings , but personally I prefer solid gem opals so bezels dont show the sides which is how you can tell its not a doublet or triplet.

G’day mate, I do like that claw settings allow for more viewing, bezel settings are more the traditional setting for cabs, but the best way to tell if the opal is a solid, doublet or triplet is to buy from a trusted seller. 🤪👍
Right on my dude thanks so much for your time & expertise!

Very good video thanks for making it. Is using gold the same process?

G’day mate, the soldering is only slightly different, it takes a bit more heat, but you don’t have to heat the whole piece when soldering. The clean up process it the same. 🤪👍
I just got the sound after restarting the video

Why did you omit the soldering technique for the rails on the inlay rings?
@theopalmills
5 ай бұрын
G’day mate, there’s no trick, it’s just solder as usual, I have other videos that include soldering. I was asked to show more of the filing through to polish, on the clean up. Inlay rings are relatively easy, I’ll see about doing a vid on it from start to finish. 🤪👍
Where do you get your silver? I’m trying to learn the jewellery making side of opal.
