Silverado dash lights and PRNDL/odometer repair.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I repair the no dash light and no PRNDL/odometer on my 2001 Silverado. This is a problem you can easily fix on your own with just a soldering iron, solder and a little time saving you money.

Thank you. The 2nd half of the video was particularly helpful. As shown, I disassembled the little box, with the headlight selector switch and the dash light dimmer dial. I cleaned the gunk out of it with a tissue and a little fine sand paper and re-assemble it and it works great. There were only 2 small phillips screws to remove after carefully prying apart the plastic with a small and medium sized flat tip screwdriver. The whole thing took about an hour after watching the video. Very helpful!

EXCELLENT video, will help when I change the red instrument lights in a few days on my 1500 the previous owner installed. Can't read the speedometer at night! Also, very creative fix in the headlight switch assembly, good useful info. But, I believe the "cracks" you found on the circuit board you repaired were actually burn patterns, like it may have blown as a fuse would. Maybe the previous owner of your truck had additional lights hooked up through the switch? Or, worse case scenario, an occasional dead short that caused it to overload and burn. Just something to be mindful of. Anyhow, thanks for the video and info. Good stuff!

Glad the vid helps you and thanks for watching! You're correct about the "cracks" but for simplicity of the vid that explanation worked. Yes the previous owner had some trailer brakes and lights wired it, I had also removed all of that. Its still working fine today so the fix worked.

@@chrisvill54 there are a few fuses that mention different parts of the instrument cluster. Make sure to check all of them. Hi so I removed the cluster and was able to bench test it. I was able to find a connector diagram online which pointed which pins were suppose to get power and which should get ground, there was 2 for each. There is one that actually is for the cluster backlights. It was a yellow wire it didn't say but im assuming it gets power when the headlight switch is turned on. Because when i applied voltage with my power probe to that yellow wire while grounding the 2 groungs i got backlights to work on the cluster. But when i checked the connector on the van for that same yellow wire i was getting ground instead of power. I was getting everything else on the connector power and ground but just that one yellow i was getting groung instead of power. Now i looked at the wire diagram and it looks like that wire goes to the body control module and that's it. I was thinking that maybe it was relay that turns that ground to power when the headlights get turned on but from the looks of that diagram it looks like that yellow wire doesn't go to any relay just to the bcm. Im thinking i got to find the bcm and that yellow wire at the bcm and see if it's sending out voltage or groung when the headlight switch is turned on. That was i could see if it's the bcm that is bad or the problem is in between the bcm and the cluster connector. Any thoughts?

My truck the dash lights don't turn on when the sensor turns them on at night or when I turn lights on manually. The headlights and door switch lights turn on but no cluster. If i roll the dimmer switch all the way up then my interior lights turn on and the cluster dash lights also?

  • @FireAndGasoline

immapimpslapyou sounds like it could be a bad ground or recheck the solder points on the board. With a multi-meter you can test for power at the connector. Just a few things to check.. let me know what you find and we can go from there. Its hard to diagnose things you cant actually get your hands on.

  • @FireAndGasoline

RONALD511 may want to upgrade the positive cable from the alternator to the battery for that to a larger gauge. This is what i quickly found on that. "the wiring harness that handles the alternators output must be beefed up with heavier-gauge wiring. Use 2GA wiring for 120- to 140-amp alternators, and 1/0GA wiring for 140- to 225-amp alternators. Some suppliers of high output alternators provide an upgraded wiring harness with their alternator, and will NOT honor any warranty claims unless the wiring harness is also installed with the high output alternator" hope that helps.
