You are correct about the "Red Boxes." Easier if you just think "Area with the MOST boxes."

Correct, sir. In traversing two or more ops areas you are subjected to greater risks in the more dangerous area. It would be a "gamey" tactic to roll for the safer zone.

Nice video! However, I would like to make you aware of a small mistake you made 😉. You replaced the generic merchants with the IJN auxiliary ships. But those are only supposed to be drawn, when you flip a generic AO or AP. Generic merchants (those marked M) will stay, even with the IJN expansion in play. By the way, I'm one of the guys, who worked with Brien on this expansion. Right now, I'm preparing a companion sheet, which will list all the IJN ships sunk, with their exact sinking date, the cause of the loss and, if applicable, which sub or other source caused their demise. It will have no impact on gameplay, it will just be a hopefully interesting historical reference.

Thanks for the comment. I'll watch for this on the next video and point that out.

I know this video is three months old but I wish to comment on the attack made by Tautog. After the attack was aborted you placed Tautog back in the "done" section. After normal combat the player must run an endurance check immediately after combat. This is an example of special rules taking precedence over normal rules. Event 4 specifically says not to make an endurance check in this instance, thus negating the normal endurance check.

Plunger could not attack the merchant in the Gilbert’s. Too many asw values against the torp -2 value. Also, after the first attack the tdc markers are removed to cup. The reattack draws new tdc markers. Attack value. 4-2 is a 2. Defense is 3+2+2 a 7 plus (-4) tdc is a 3. Def more than your 2. Can’t attack.

If you choose to make a 2nd attack (foolish if there are any ASW around) the TDC Markers are removed, and you draw new ones after revealing more targets. The Sub that had its attack foiled by the Mechanical Malfunction Event didn't have to make an Endurance Roll, as per the Event text.

I purchased the IJN Expansion for the original Silent War but never used it, so this is interesting to see. Looks like more than a glance at the new 2.0 rules is gonna be necessary.

What diameter tool did you use to clip your counters? Did you have any issues with clipping into important information on the counters? It seems like with the centering issues some of the graphics are very close to the edge.

I have a large clipping tool that can handle many different sizes of counters. I didn't have an issue with cutting any text, but I did get very close to some of them.

I have a corner cutter that I ordered from Oregon Laminations. I tried cutting a few blank SW2.0 counters and it kind of botched a few. It is the 2 millimeter radius cutter. It works great on larger counters. To get rid of the nubs on the corners I am being very careful with a set of nail clippers. You could also try an X-Acto knife or a safety razor blade, if you dare. I would like to try a 1.5 millimeter radius corner cutter but I have yet to find one.

if you have a stack of subs, do you roll for each sub during transit or isn't it a group and you roll once for the entire grp?

Each sub rolls individually. Only subs in a wolf pack make one roll for the group. There are no wolf packs in this campaign; they can be formed in later campaigns.

It is not. What I do is block out forbidden zones with a marker, a black six-sided die or cube.

I ordered SW2/IJN2 from Compass Games, plus two other games from CG. They shipped to me in Canada from the U.S. via US Post; shipping was $70 USD, plus Canada Customs dinged me about $30 CDN.
