Honestly this brought tears to my eyes. Growing up on the reservation in red rock NM I was raised by my mom and grandparents. My grandparents didn't speak English very well, so we learned navajo very early. Anyway, I was ignorant and was to involved with school and sports that I never took the time to listen to my grandparents:'( my grandmother was a weaver and she was amazing. None of us in the family paid attention. Now my grandparents have been gone for many years and I haven't been home and present with my Navajo culture that I feel so lost and a lot of times alone. Thank you for sharing this, even though it made me very sad. I didn't know any of what you taught but I do now. Please continue to shared your wonderful Dine teachings💛

When we are young, it is kind of normal to reject or ignore our culture but then after being in the modern world for a while, you see it doesnʼt have much to offer. You are lucky to know what your culture is and nowadays you can learn so much online. I wish I even knew what native tribe I am from. I loved this video and the words they taught us and the beauty and meaning of each part of the clothing.

It’s simple: dress shirt, Concho belt, bow guard or bracelet only on left, moccasins or boots, bandana tied to the left, and men’s necklace

i find it interesting the similarities between certain cultures, like with your culture, there is a significance with the umbilical cord and connecting to your mother, the sun, and also fertility, ect. We also have jewelry to symbolize this in ancient Nordic/Scandinavian culture. Its lovely.

The silver and blue are from where we come from and where we are going. It’s the journey of the spirit. The blue or turquoise is from the blue world or the second world. The silver is the fourth world. We are in the yellow or the third world, so this jewelry is also representing where we are coming from and where we are going on the journey through the worlds as a spirit. That’s how I know it anyways. Like different teachings are like different clans and different families. It’s similar but small differences and they are all good, so thank you for sharing.
