My next videos will involve defining myself, a sober one, then excitedly moving towards Grandma shearing a sheep for you all. This is an opener with videos on the weaving loom, rugs, carding and spinning dowel with weaving accessories. Its getting exciting to learn more about Dine' textile. Please watch and learn. Hugs. Oh my, I am so happy you found your Father's ring. It must be beautiful and even more so what it represents even though it is made of silver and turquoise. There is beauty in both. You were meant to have that ring and I can bet you your father made sure you found that ring. How awesome! Thank you for that precious comment. I giggle now and then when I wear my turquoise necklaces and bracelets and rings that the Holy People are pouring down blessings upon me as they see me decked out. I sometimes sleep with all my jewelry on and at times I wake up and like you find things I thought I had lost, or someone calls and says, Oh I owed you money, here it is. Oh, I never say no to that one. Or just that the sun shines and the day becomes so darn beautiful and I feel like I am in a picture post card, do you ever feel that way? I do all the time. How grateful I feel and giggle again thinking the Dine' people believe in the Holy People so much. I just believe its Heavenly Father who appreciates the beauty of silver and turquoise. He does delight in the beauty of a woman and a man who are virtuous and I think wearing turquoise is virtuous. Did you know turquoise is the stone praised by Jewish people and that when the Navajo singers went to Jerusalem and sang their songs with their turquoise the Jewish people were astounded as the Rabbi's spoke up and said, "that is our songs, our ancient songs, where did you learn them and why are you wearing the turquoise of our ancients? Where did you get these designs for they are ours. Then after the conversations, these Jews sat with the Navajo singers and sang their songs right along with them as if they had always sung the songs. It is not coincidental that where we came from. Later on I shall introduce to all of you why through oral histories, songs and prayers that explain more than a lot of folks really know. We all came to turtle island. I said enough, from your awesome comment. Too much maybe. Grandma loves you. Have a good rest tonight and have a great Holy Sabbath. Love you. Navajo Grandma

I know the smell you're talking about it's like the smell that your hands make when you touch the hangers at a thrift store or at a department store which I don't go to. My mother taught me early in life to shop at thrift stores and be proud. So even when I made good money I still always have bought used clothing because we produce so much waste and the used clothing is dumped where indigenous people live in other countries and the dye and the poisons from the artificial clothing run down and poison the water of the peoples of those areas. My mother taught me things long before they were known in the news. She would get visions of things and say that it was just a hunch. We would all look at each other like a hunch you knew that 10 minutes before it happened! Both my mother and I and she has passed now and I have not got to grieve it yet, have a chemical reaction to the metal in coat hangers and it makes a smell the nickel jewelry smells the same to me. That was a very long way of me trying to tell you that it reminds me of coat hangers. I'm loving this because it's all so beautiful too bad that is not all silver in some ways but some people wouldn't be able to afford it otherwise. Some people wouldn't be able to afford to make jewelry. I'm for anything that helps people make a living that is good. But being honest I would prefer silver. Being honest I would never refuse the nickel bracelet as a gift from anyone. Hehe

What an interesting explanation with such moving memories and heartstrings attached. Write this down like you did. This was a beautiful perfect lovely explanation and grandma loved it. I was absorbed in what you wrote because your explanation of that smell is so perfect, its because I too went through that with my father. We went to thrift stores and daddy always went to this back street where these black folks had a shop and boy there were smells there that one will not forget. Smell like cooking, hangers exactly like you said, moth balls, dust in the air, and on and on, but it was a place daddy said, we need to go there to buy to help these folks. So we did. I got a purse there that is now worth millions, it looked plastic with brown pearl like handles and still perfect. Those were the days. Wow, I love your writing and expressive ability. You need to write a book of your life and your mother's life. You know, sometimes, I believe when we don't grieve, we know they are close by and watch over us and that gives more comfort to our spirit than anything. Its okay not to grieve because we know they are not gone, but still with us in spirit. Joy and understanding like that brings calm. Loved your comment. Navajo Grandma

Here in the Southwest there are men and women you see discreetly doing things like this when money is on the line and even our likes. I myself being a turkish turkic guy, i feel like i have to say this: turkish people are inhabitants of the middle eastern country called Turkey.. turkic people are spread all over asia and a bit of europe.. And so Turkey is being maybe 60% turkic! But 100% turkish.. Just so you know, you can google 'samarkand' to see photos of turquoise tiles.. meaning we turks are related to that color and material as you are.. then when it comes to culture, yakuts tribe in siberia that are a turkic tribe, might remember you of some of your culture.. as well as nenets of russia.. What a wonderful video. I took my children to get turquoise awhile ago. I'm starting to show them how to polish it and do work with the heishi beads like you spoke of. Wonderful! Thank you for the time you took to share with your children purchasing some turquoise. You needn't polish your silver, just wearing it or rubbing the silver with your fingers and your body acid will shine the silver properly. Wearing it shines it as well of course if you want a quick shine, I take some colgate toothpaste, rub it together in my hands then get my silver jewelry rub it everywhere really well, then wash it off with warm water. Walla it is shiny as can be. Mostly, as you wear it it will keep it shiny. I had to rewatch the video and yes the Holy People do want to find you wearing your jewelry. At least being Dine' that was the stories told to us. Thank you for watching and hope you subscribed. Welcome again and again and remember Navajo Grandma does appreciate your watching her videos. My mother loved silver and turquoise jewelry, I am planning to learn to make hand made silver and truquoise jewelry myself to honor my mother, she passed away in 2016 in February from cancer due to her medication she became confrinational our relationship was sort of a struggle most my life I love her and forgave her I feel I need to do this to honor her memory. She had a difficult child hood she had me at 16 yrs old I was born in 1960 In February again. At that time that was not looked upon very good. She had not grown up and raising 3 kids in her teens did not give her that chance to grow up, she did spend years trying to fit in. But she had this jewelry since our family visited the Dine peope when I was a child. I cant wait to buy some jewelry for myself I want a nice ring a belt bukle and a cowboy tie to wear with my cowboy shirts. Its exciting to think about this. Jewelry great video grandma you always share so many wonderful details. Thank You like always Doug..

Appreciate your kind words and I feel for your mother. Sometimes the decisions we make alter what could have been or alter our personalities but look she did the best she could to raise you, no matter what. She might have been angry with herself you know, not you. That's what we as people do to ourselves. That's why the smudging video and prayer is so important to learn to forgive ourselves and move forward. That silversmithing sounds awesome. I wanted to do it too but when I read about it and my brother and sister in law showed me, I sorta said, no thanks. You have to want to do it. Hugs. Navajo Grandma

Yea she did do her best. Im her years over 50 went to college at San San Diego State, ahe got her bachelors and Maaters degree in Child Psychology and worked over 22 years at CPS for the county, she was q strong Christian did everything she could to put families back together to restore them. Taking mothers to AA or NA meeting ahe often would tqke the kids to the mall at Christmas and buy them presents to have under a Christmas tree with her own money and time. My baby sister died atbthe age of 40 Yrs old, this relationship was the hardest for both of them, my sister had been raped by 2 neighbor boys the youngest was my qge and hus brithe4a couple years older. My sister faught with me not to tell our parents, being her big brother justice had to be delt with I did what any brother should do, wooped both of them at the same time. My little sister sucked her thumb when she was teething and ahe woukd rock herseld to sleep on the couch wh3n she was little my parents had a hard time getting her to stop, well I noticed qt 12 yrs old she was doing this again and not soing her chores after school I asked what was wrong my sister is my sister ahe took the old fashioned dial phone and knocked m3 out with it, i wake up ahe screaminh to leave her alone slapping me on the head, she lost it. I pick her up amd tossed her into my father's chair. Then pinned her down and said who. Not what that I kind if figured out, well after beating the 2 brothers up on the way to school, our family attended church regularly Sunday Morning and night and Thursday night services. That Sunday night, the boys broke into our house and lit my sisters room on fire. I worked with my father for six weeks to repair all that had been done. So those boys took hell from me in the way to school the way home from school and usually a knock out punch in the halls at least once each passing from ckqss to class. Unfortunately the power I felt I enjoyed it and bullied them severely onbthe way home, this gave me an issue with anger and my temper that I many times wasnt able to control though high school I went on the after that and the 1st 2 yrs I was in trouble with authorities then ama older petty officer rook me under his wing and I began to cintrop myself he became a chief in the Navy amd he put me in th3 Captains gig his boat another words and since the age of 21 yrs old I have had to sef3nd myself with a few younger larger black males who wanted to rob me, both times I kept my money and walked away, I dealt with myself not to let that out if its closet for many years O would not argue wity my wife I would walk out the door not to get angry I was afraid of myself. Ahe knew that was my only way to cope with myself if I walked out it was silence for days when I came home w3 didnt fight really for 20 yrs my son thinks I am weak or something he never saw me angry thank God I will let him think what wver he wants not to know what is inside that to this day meditate and pray sit quietly appreciating things the small things and dont allow anyone to upset my world today I am grateful my life has been mostly blessed the person that mqkee qny suffering occur is me. I know to much that I wish I never knew to still.be naive. But eyes that see and eare that hear doesnt allow me to know how real the fight of good and evil exist and the spirits that walk the earth and those that dwell in some people is something that breaks my heart I talk with my guardian angel who guides me protects me from myself and others tells me stop when I am about to snap when in business being treqted unfairly or should say get ripped off in a big way. Wisdom only happens through hard lessons that the test gets passed when its difficult to recognize the 3rd time that its a test because you always have to pick yourself up dust off and keep trying to so what's right bulding character keeping your word telling the truth even when it hurts. Anyway Navajo Grandma this friendship is actually really the only one ai can share freely the people were I live have no spiritual connection they only serve self totally unaware they refuse to accept the great spirit they believe all there is live pay taxes and die, I believe we are far more powerful with many gifts that we are here to learn them and to understand serving others is loving self I believe well honestly some of us humans are light beings created to be like the creator if we choose the good side it doesnt make the lesson plan for each of ue any easier just more joyous and peaceful as we journey and those gifts come alive one at a time as our soul or spirit journeys at ever higher awareness restoring us from the fog of birth we go through here. The stories or old are real there was evil that walked with ancestors they were giant that did unspeakable things and those that participate in that are again rising in that evil to many of our babies disappear every year, the truth. Anywqy more could be said concerning that, God Bless he is in charge I am his vessel to pour out his universal love and not judge anyone even my enemy, but pour out blessings heaped upon their head and forgive them from the heart is what I am told to do for myself to grow beyond being neanderthal cave man myself.

@@dougreed9843 Doug, what I have read is sad, awful and I see that as you look back, you might be blaming yourself for these things that happened. You were never the blame, you took crap and hits for trying to make things right. You are a good man and I pray that you look at this sad situation and wash yourself of any blame. I feel sorry for your sister, I pray she is okay as when you go thru stuff like this rape, it has its long term effects. It takes a strong person to overcome its awfulness and cause and effects. I hope you no longer talk to yourself by saying, "I could snap, or I could do something angry." You won't snap. As you forgive yourself, bring good thoughts, do good service, and pray to let go of the past, you will eventually "will have learned from it, and to leave it where it was and not keep bringing and dragging it back to your memory." Not easy but is doable by involving yourself doing positive service, being kind like you are, like your mom tried to do, as she also was trying to give herself positive hope and blessings." She must have gone through a rough life, that you don't even know of, or that she would have never told you because she knew you might snap." So it goes both ways. Never say to yourself, "you might snap." Instead say, "I am tolerant like God, I am in control of my emotions." I am kind, loving and God knows what I am going through and will help me through it. Then spend constructive days, like walking, listening to good music, calming music, draw, paint, make something by hand to put at someone's door that you don't even know and leave it as a gift. Keep it simple. Be kind even when others are not. But don't be a push over. I told my kids, there is a point if someone is bullying you and you know it is wrong and they punch you, don't be afraid to punch them back if it is out of hand. Remain positive and remember grandma is praying for you and God knows your heart and circumstances. Its up to us to live on the past or to close the door and move forward. I know you are trying, feed yourself good words, and good things. Watch grandma's videos and just be the wonderful person you are and your heart is good. Hugs. Navajo Grandma

I love this. I believe a very old brooch that I have is Navajo Old Pawn. These pieces are made of coin silver melted down and are the lowest grade of silver. .800. But they can be shined up nicely. The stones were not mined and were picked up off of the ground. Some say the quality is not as nice as mined, but I have to disagree. I have seen beautiful stones. Many were unstable, easily broken when worn in a setting. Sometimes they would stabilize the stone by adding ground turquoise and something like a resin. Not sure what it was. I just learned this a few months ago and I love these. I like the newer ones too. I could tell the difference between the nickel and the silver. The sheen is totally different. I wish I could do the smell test. That is pure talent and skill!!! I want to see a necklace that uses sinew. I don't think I have. I am glad that Native Artists are getting the recognition and prices that they deserve. I was going to sell my necklace (small and simple) that I got years and years ago. Not now. There are so many fake turquoise stones it’s getting tricky to tell what’s what🤭 My Tibetan friend owns a local store and it’s lovely to see how similar the turquoise/ red coral designs are b/t your cultures. To me it shows we truly had a sea-faring global civilization at one time, so very long ago, who shared much with one another. Its your body and spirit that is so pure that is wanting this and you find out its a like and then a love because of its qualities and spiritual connections to you. What you said tells grandma you have a lovely spirit and soul, how awesome. Hugs. Navajo Grandma

So pretty! I wish I knew more about my Indian great grandmother. I’m a white lady, but my grandmother’s mother, was an Indian from Oklahoma. All I know is that her married name was Matilda Campbell, and she married a white man, and they lived in a dirt floor cabin in Oklahoma. My grandma always said that her mom was Cherokee, but I don’t know if that’s accurate. There were a few tribes in that area. I’ll never know. It’s weird being a pale, freckle faced Caucasian “mutt” with a ever so slim thread linking me to my Native American great grandmother I know almost nothing about. But my grandmother taught me how to look for real sterling silver, and turquoise, and makers marks. She believed that “real” jewelry was extremely valuable. Far more valuable than their dollar value, because real artists made them.

Awesome demo good to know. I found an old bracelet my father use to have when I was little. The turquoise had broke n the silver which I tho it was silver, needed cleaning it was nickle. I was disappointed but still happy that I've found my fathers bracelet. For he is no longer with us. The story you told at the end my father used to say that all the time, but he also added the blessings come in the early morning peek thru your windows to see if your house is clean if it is they stay. Thank you very much for your insight I am very much appreciative of all the reminders of the teachings.

@@LindaLanglitz642 I am not sure as I am not biting into these, I just can tell that the plastics made by those who want to make it appear turquoise have gone to great lengths to make its appearance so incredibly like the rock. Now you won't do this, but if you took a hot needle you can penetrate the stone that looks turquoise if it is plastic. Only makes sense, of course you know, real rock you can't penetrate it naturally with a hot needle. Don't try it. Just be wise.

Yaateeh shi yazhi, aheehee for listening, watching and learning. I love making these videos as I was taught by my Nali and Bizhi as a little child from the age of 18 months until I was 10 I lived with them in a hogan and watched, learned, saw, heard all they did traditionally and culturally. I didn't know I had learned so much until I started making these videos. I kept feeling them egging me on I believe from the spirit world to do this and it just filled my soul and spirit until one day my son, Keaka came over and said, Mom let's make a frybread video. There was nothing pre-empted, we just turned the video recorder on and my granddaughter and I made our first video. You have to go to his youtube videos called LIFE IS OHANA, where that video is at. Take a look. So thank you for complimenting grandma but who you really are complimenting is my Nali and Bizhi. I love them so much and they lead and guide me still to this day.
