Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN Art Hands-on Review
Ғылым және технология
The Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN lives up to Sigma's 'Art' standard, giving first-party lenses for E-mount and L-mount a run for their money. We put it to the test and came out impressed.

I am five seconds into the video and already smiling. Thank you for making this day at home a bit easier :-)

What's bokeh? Is that similar to the much more ancient and proper word Toneh?

I've been waiting for this review for ages! Thanks guys!
This lens is going to be a MASSIVE success for Sigma. It's been on backorder multiple times since it's release. I've had mine for my S1 for a few weeks and I'm very very impressed so far.

@@michaelholzhausen5741 Haven't tried the 24-105 so I'm not sure. It's been pretty good for stills and just ok for video. Most focus issues are probably the S1 and not the lens though.

Just ordered before watching this video. Thank you for giving me good news. Can not wait.
Thank you for the information on the focusing sound. I had to watch 6 review videos before getting that info.
Thanks for the review. I have this lense and love it so far. Very good performer. And i have a set of 82mm filters anyway. Personally i'm very happy with my buy.
I just moved to Sony system from years of Canon use. I have always been fine with third party lenses (sigma/tamron) with 2.8s. I'm picking up this lens and a tamron 70-180 2.8 for my regular work. Thanks for the video 🤟🏻
I’ve been using a lot of sigma art albeit on canon for the past year. They’re awesome

Just arrived mine yesterday! I really 😊 love it..i will used it soon.thanks for the review..I’m using Sony a7iii..👍keep up..
Great work again guys. I love it. Can you all do a video about astro photography? I would like to learn about photographing the moon and the milky way. Can you all also do a video on photographing planets through telescopes? Thanks in advance!
My first quality glass on my a7iii and I'm so in love.
Damn, got cold just watching this, this lens is on my list for my S1r, but waiting for sale (maybe black friday if I can wait that long)..
A fantastic lens resulting from the cooperation with Leica regarding the optical formula
I would love to know if there is any difference between the canon version + mc11 and the native e-mount in terms of focus accuracy
Hi! Great review! thank you for sharing your knowledge. I wanted to know your opinion about this lens on an a6300 body. Since the 6300 don't have in-body stabilization, Will the image stabilization be an issue?
Thanks for a solid review. The Tamron 24-70mm has been a workhorse that comes mostly when I need something faster, but Tamron's primes leave a bit to be desired compared to the Sigma Art line.
Thanks for this review and all the other ones you've done. I traded in my Sony 24-70mm f4 Zeiss for this Sigma. I thought about the Tamron 28-75 but the build quality on this lens is just solid. Yes, it's heavier than the Tamron but I love the feel and substantiveness of this lens.
Enjoyed the daddy daughter project. Going to borrow that for the Uncle - Nephew project. Stay healthy Chris and Jordan!
S1H ❤️ always interested in the image from that camera 🙏
thanks for the video .
Great shoots!! Ive see some people to say that this lens came dusty from inside very easy and fast,is it true?? Is the only think that makes me think it twice before i buy one!
Wonderful intro shot. Made me laugh.
thanks for the review! Would it make sense to purchase this lens now if im shooting on apsc a6400, but plan on stepping up to full frame soon?
Hope to see sigma DN with RF mount soon.
Love Alberta!
I switched from this lens to the Tamron 17-75 (2 lenses) just for the weight for video and gimbal use. However the Sigma is sharper and better focusing then the Tamron for everything but for the time being I'm sticking with the smaller lighter Tamrons.

One year later, Johannes Malm, look at the new lens from Sigma and Tamron. Talking about upping their game, now their old lens are just old. Tamron has new lens that are right up there with Sony's G line. Sigma has just incredible lens. I'm looking at the 24/28 to 70/75 line of lens from either company.
nice review. coming from d750+24-70 F/2.8 nikon, i'd like to switch to a7m4 for video and eye detetcion with a good 24-70. I have heard that sigma dn should be better or equal to sony for photography and eye detection but sonly with its motorization should have a better autofocus and eye detetcion for video. what do you think ? I really have no idea what we need for making video (wedding, babies, dogs,...)
Is there a autofocus noise? Is the on camera audio useable ? thanks for this review
Thank you
That was a great review! | would like to ask you which should i buy? Tamron 36-150 f/2 - 2,8 or should i pick sigma 24-70 f/2,8? Both are great lenses i know that but it's also both too expensive. With tamron i take advantage the low range of 35 and also the beast range of 150 but with sigma i have something more standard with 24 to 70 where i cover the low range of 24. I want it for travelling.I have the Sony A7 II. Thank you
What was the name of the Tamron you talked about? Would this Sigma/Tamron lens be good for having the camera closer in a streaming environment where I am sitting like 60-70 cm from the camera and would it still create bokeh in the background with the settings needed for me to be good in frame and still catch most of the rooms background?
Between this one and the Sony 24 to 105 what would you choose for video? travel, weddings, etc
which lens did you use for the part in 8 minute? it's a 180 shutter right?
Really curious to see how this sigma 24-70 performs against the tamron 24-70 for video! I've seen in another video of Fstoppers that the sigma had TERRIBLE image stabilization but some said that it was due to filming with it on a Nikon camera. I am thinking about buying this lens as my go to run-and-gun shootings, but I really need to know if it's worth the extra 400 euros compared to the well known Tamron 24-70 G2.
I have this lens for Nikon F mount. I use it with my D750, and it is fantastic. I also have the 18-35 f/1.8 for my D7200, another great lens.
Can you review the Sigma 14-24mm DG DN ?
How well does the autofocus perform with a Sony a7r3 with eye detection turned on? Is it quick? Does it lock on and stay attached?
Hi !! great video, thanks for sharing. I am upgrading my gear to mirrorless (Nikon Z6 mount FTZ) and I would like to buy a 24-70 f/2.8 lens. Do you recommend the Sigma Art over other brands? I am more interested in street and travel photography. Not much in video. Thank you in advance.

Techart adapter sony/nikon and take tamron
I know it's got distortion and vignette at 24 but curious how this does for astro. Have not seen a single review for this lens include astro. I'm looking at this or the 24-105mm f4 for a "jack of all trades" lens.
I think that when compared to the tamron the question that might tip the scale is more about portability since they´re both in a similar enough price point. On the other hand when compared to the high end zooms that Sony, Leica and Panasonic offer it gets certainly more complicated to justify going for the native options. Anyway, great review as always guys. Stay safe!
If this thing goes on sale I’ll have to take the plunge haha $1099 for these features and Sigma Art quality on an E-mount is a bargain! In my opinion of course.
Yeah Finally!!! :D
I have the Nikon Z 24-70 f/2.8 and it is fabulous both in the center and edges when shot wide open or stopped down. If one is truly serious about landscapes then the premium price may well be worth it. Glad the Sigma is not available for the Z mount for the choice would have been difficult.

lcador9 I'm in a pickle to sell my Nikon F mount to go Sony. I want to like the Z system, but I'm an enthusiast and spending $2K+ on a lens is not worth it. Now with Sony being able to get a 2.8 from $900-$1200. That's a game changer. And Nikon doesn't seem willing to open their mount eng,... Hello Sony?!

The only reason why I'm stuck and consider going Nikon Z is their built in stacking, for Macro, and ergonomics, however battery life is trash and that's a huge thing for me.
@lcador9

@@coltoncyr2283 I agree. My Nikon Z7 is stuck in warranty repair in New York for very poor battery life, less than 150 shots under minimal demand. Problem is the 500mm PF, for birds, is a fabulous light weight wonder and the S-lenses are super sharp end to end for landscape. I print for galleries at 20-40 inches and the quality difference shows. I more then make my money back by paying the premium lens prices. Best of luck with you photography.
Thanks for the content!! Was getting so bored without it. But I think I will stick with the Tamron.
you are good ,Thank you.
Brrr! Nice review guys, given current limitations. Traded in my Sigma 24-105 EF mount (used with MC-11 on Sony E) for a Voigtländer 40mm manual prime last year, which I adore, but miss the practicality, versatility and image quality of that zoom (if not it's slow focussing), so this lens looks like a great replacement for the future.
Chris, your city drawings are really ok! Though a tad underdeveloped.
Do you have any dust issues with the lens
It has snowed like crazy these days in Calgary…
Did you guys reviewed the 14-24 for Sony FE?
I'm using the previous DG version on the A7iii. Is this new version purely an E Mount update, or have the optics/motors been improved?

L mount user here, that focuses on only video. I agree, I think it's worth getting the Lumix PRO line instead. Though the image quality is superb, the manual focus capabilities is not the best. THe focus wheel is much too loose and its hard to pin point manual focus.
How does the Sigma compare with the G2 Tamron 28-75 new auto focus motors?
Hey Guys, can we get a downloadable template for the Healthy Dinner 20 focus chart? And what happens if you get a 14?
I bought this lens on Sony E-Mount about 2 months ago based on a bunch of the reviews. I would say the part that this review and most others have missed is that it zooms the wrong way. Sony lenses zoom to the right to zoom in. This you have to turn left. This may not be an issue for people that switch cameras / lenses day in and out - but for a native shooter it really interrupts your shooting workflow. I think highlighting this in future would be advisable - after all - who cares about image quality when you miss the shot because it is less usable. I honestly wish I had gone for the Tamron (assuming it zooms the right way).

Yeah but Tamron swaps places with the zoom ring and focus ring, LOL :)
Have they made any updates to this lens since the time of filming this?
I have recently purchased a Sigma 24-70 mm for my Sony a7r3. I am not able to get sharper pictures as it supposed to. Can you tell me why and what to do with the settings to improve that
Hi, Which is faster in autofocus speed Sigma 24 - 70mm vs Tamron 28 75 mm for video?
What eyecup are you using at 1:48?
can sony a7iv handle the weight of sigma itself, or should i use an adapter for that ?
Chris does this lens has dust resistance problem? Some reviews said after using this lens for a little bit of long time they saw some sand inside the lens.
@niccollsvideo
4 жыл бұрын
I'm sure it's as well sealed as the other art lenses. I never worry to much about some dust inside our lenses because sooner or later it's just gonna happen. Minimal effect on image quality so i don't sweat it.
How about ND filters for this lens?
try it on Lumix S1r. Amazing !
I bought one for my L mount Sigma fp!!!
Is it safe to use this lens on Sony A7iv having the camera on Tripod, isn't too heavy?
Should I get an ND filter to protect it from dust?
Leica certainly does not worry about this lens as it has made it its own ...
Sigma 14-24, 24-70 and a Sony 85 1.8 is all you need for weddings/portraits and landscape 👍🏻
Did you guys experience dust problems? A lot of people are having issues with it.

Prabhu Bhoopathy sharpness and color is something that can be fixed in post, colors don’t really matter to me in my opinion when buying a lens when 99% of photographers are just gonna edit their photos and play with the tones and colors in their images regardless...

I dont know why Chris swearing really tickled such a funny-bone for me xD
The question is whether it is sharper than the GM ... and it is at 24mm, specially stopped down. At 70mm they are comparable unless wide open where the GM is better. Stopped down, the Sigma is sharper but I would NOT say way sharper: in my chart testing, it is noticeable sharper but not by a lot.
Definitively, I like so much that old leather jacket Jordan is wearing...!!! 😃👍
Hahahah that's me when I'm too lazy to put snowshoes on.
Over 35mm, this lens does not like if you get too close to the subject under f5,6, it says it is focused, but it comes out soft many times.
Please recommend a photo camera for the family, trips and events, it is better than a mobile phone, knowing that I am not a professional photographer

Wow I didn't know that Sigma make lens under a kilo! :O I'm joking of course :) this lens and the new 1.4/85 DG DN Art are probably the best (and also more compact than their competition except for the Tamron 28-75 which is after all slightly different focal range, just for this purpose - to keep it smaller & lighter) lens for e-mount in their focal range. I would love to see the 1.4/40mm take this redesign (and keep its quality), so far the only thing putting me off buying the 1.4/40 is its 1,270g
Ok...we get you pushing the"smaller" Tamron 28-75 that very conveniently STARTS AT 28mm.
