I own this lens for about two weeks and i love it! Don't have any autofocus problems or some extreme flaring as others describe, unless you do something really stupid. Mine copy seems to be well centred as well so i'm pretty satisfied. Sharpness is outstanding as is the build quality. Sigma keeps making really awesome lenses, hope to see FE 70-200 F2.8 soon! Oh and quick tip for ya. If the rubber part of the rubber lens hood seems faded or weared out, put a tiny bit of silicone based oil on your finger and smudge it on. It will look like new.
Was waiting for this... got me the 14-24 a few weeks back after watchin ur review for that... sigma is killing it!
Great to see you get the first UK review of this, shows how well you are doing and a great review, have a good Christmas

Much thanks for this Lens Review, Christopher. So i could start saving my pennies for the Sigma. And Merry Xmas to you, too !
Thanks again for the review! Going to check it out in January and compare it to the Tamron 28-75 also for video work.
This is awesome, thank you so much, Christopher!
I own the 24-70 GM and had the chance to test the 24-70 from Sigma and am positively annoyed by the great performance of the Sigma. It's sharper and the minimum focus distance is way shorter!

Hi Chris Thanks for your awesome work. Great review, as always. Have a Happy New Year start!
Great review as always.. I have been saving for the new canon 70-200mm RF, and I would really like to see you do a review on it because I’ve been hearing that it has a few issues. Thank you for all your great work with these lens reviews.

Appreciate your reviews as they seem to be very honest
would not place an order before watching your review.
It’s amazing I just watch you do the Canon review for the RF 24-70 which is over double the price. And this way outperformed it. This is why Canon doesn’t like third-party manufacturers make lenses.
Oh, This is the first time I saw you test the lens in the rain🙋🏻♂️sir
Thanks for good review! I would be very interested in seeing example images comparing the bokeh at 70mm 2.8, for this Sigma and the Tamron 28-75. And also examples comparing the bokeh of those two at 55mm 2.8, with Sony 16-55 2.8 on APS-C.
I was waiting for this review! This should be an excellent buy for the Leica SL or Pany S1 L-Mount.
There are many options of full frame e-mount cameras at this focal range. The default kit zoom Sony FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS, the Sony Zeiss FE 24-70mm f/4 OSS with a recently reduced price, the little more expensive Tamron FE 28-75mm f/2.8, the very expensive Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM and the latest Sigma FE 24-70mm f/2.8. Nowadays there is large variety of e-mount lenses and that makes e-mount cameras more attractive. The Sigma FE 24-70mm f/2.8 is available only for the E-Mount and L-Mount mirrorless cameras but it seems to me that has a design for SLR cameras. From the review it looks inferior to the Sony FE 24-70 f/2.8 GM but it has nearly the half the price and that is usually more important. Since the era of autofocus lenses for film SLR cameras, Sigma, Tamron and sometimes Tokina have been producing f/2.8 zoom lenses with a similar price of similar Nikon, Canon f/4 zoom lenses but inferior quality of similar Nikon, Canon f/2.8 lenses.
yessss i was waiting for this
Great!!! as always!!!
Got this lens in the mail today. Chris, I don't think I can justify ever buying another Sony lens when Sigma is producing such quality for half the price. I recently bought their 70mm for marco and the sharpness is stupidly good.
Well done. Very thoughtful and informative review.
Just ordered this lens yesterday for my Sony a9ii. I’m a paid portrait photography & can’t wait to get this for my arsenal.
Hi Chris, thank you very much for this review! Hopefully Sigma will launch such lenses for Canon RF and Nikon Z mount as well. I’m happy with my Canon EF 4.0/24-105mm L USM IS Mk. II attached via adapter with control ring on my Canon RP. Cheers, Ralf

I’ve had the lens for a week now and it’s worth every penny. I love the excellent sharpness and rendering at all focal lengths. At 50mm it’s incredibly sharp. It’s early days with this lens but I suspect it will be on my camera for a long time. Heavy? Yes. Worth the weight? Yes.

Hi Pug. Can you please comment how fast and accurate the AF is compared to sony 24-105mm or tamron 28-75mm if possible? Thanks a lot!
Great work Mr. Frost. Sorry if this has already been covered/answered but I have a question. Going by image quality and rendering alone, which one would you say is the best between this and the Sony 24-105? Excluding weight, reach and aperture. I will use an A7R3 and the only lens I've decided on so far is the new Tamron 70-180. I mainly do travel/landscape photography. Would appreciate your opinion, cheers.
Can't wait until this lens trickles over to the the Nikon Z and Canon RF mount.
I’m using sony a7r4a with sigma 24-70 mm f2.8. I see a heavy distortion at 24 and 70 mm. And a moderate distortions at other focal lengths. The pros are its sharpness, with 61MB image size i can see tiny details more clearly when i zoom in
Great video. Looking forward to purchasing the lens.
Hi Christoper, I appreciate your lens reviews very much, they are very helpful for me. Thanks a lot for your work. I am using an A7iii. In order to understand the test setup I would like to know: How are the dimensions of the test picture / test pattern, and what is the diameter of the circles on your test pattern?
For lens reviews, this channel is my 1st choice. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you very much for your channel. This is amazing work.
Great review as always! I am in the market to buy a standard zoom for my sony... the only option within my budget is the Tamron and this Sigma. I have seen a lot of people facing this issue with dust (just after a month or two). I really wanted to buy the Sigma but after reading those I want to go for Tamron. I guess you have used Sigma for a while, if so could you please post a picture of the front element or share your overall experience? Thanks!
Looks like an awesome lens. I’d easily get this over the Sony G master
What a nice and good review! Do you think it could compete with art primes? Or is that still a different ballgame?
Thank you.
Advice needed..... if you had to choose between this and the tamron g2 which would you pick for both apsc and full frame I need your advice and you are the only reviewer I trust
The early batches also suffered a severe "dust issue" acclumating behind the front element of the lens.
Thanks for this Chris. I'm an event photographer and often shoot in low light. I'm looking at the sigma or the gmaster and am trying to figure out if the sigma would be able to keep up with focus and wouldn't hunt too much. Any thoughts? Many thanks
Huge fun of your chanell and you would really help answering my question!!!! Is the sigma sharper than the tamron so that it justifies the extra money??? Thank you so much for your reviews

Just waiting for Christopher to get a hands on the Lumix S1... But that lens is "EXTREMELEY" AWESOME
Considering that both lenses cost the same. Which of the two would you recommend on aps-c, if weight and size don't matter?! (related to the image quality/sharpness)
Thanks again for the great work. Looking forward to see a test of the sharpness on a Canon r7
Great video. There was problems with this lens getting dust inside the optics. Sigma fixed this problem on later models. Supposedly, any lens with a serial number above 5564*** was corrected by Sigma by better sealing. They did clean any earlier lenses for free if you paid for shipping. I own a later model of this lens and it is superb.

@Christopher Frost Photography Thank you for your review, but could you please ad in your test with Sony cameras "The barrel distortion picture with camera correction "ON"" at least in the widest focal length, because barrel distortion correction works great with native Sony lenses but doesn't work properly with third party lenses. This is absolutely essential for video shooters, because it is hard or even impossible to correct it in post.

Can you share some tips on how one can test a lens at home. I just purchased this lens and want to make sure I didn’t get a bad copy. Thanks
Thank you for your awesome review as always. How did you find the overall characteristics of the image? I bought the tamron equivalent a while ago but returned it after a week or so because it was just so 'boring'. Hard to explain but the bokeh wasn't pretty, the flares weren't pretty. It was just somehow "digital". Definitely suitable for someone but I didn't like it and returned to my vintage manual lenses. If you somewhat get what I mean maybe you can chime in about the Sigma?
@christopherfrost
4 жыл бұрын
I personally like it. Its hard to explain. Some people on here don't seem to like this lens's bokeh, but I did - all my sample pictures looked nice to me :-)
Thanks Chris for proper test - So I have to accumulate more moneros for Sigma, instead of Tamron.
Hi Christopher. I am confused about buying Sigma 17-50mm OS f2.8 and Sigma 18-200mm f3.5-6.3. On one hand, I know image quality in Sigma 17-50 is much higher , on the other hand, higher focal length in 18-200 is very tempting. I am a beginner and hobbyist and I photograph everything ( portrait, buildings, streets and landscape). I would appreciate if you let me know about your choice.
Good stuff 👍🏾
Seems to be a very interesting lens if you need f2.8 .Compared to Sony´s 24-105 f4.0 G lens (especially sharpness in the corners) I cannot see an advantage. So the decision for one of these lenses is easy. If f2.8 is important buy the Sigma instead of a Sony G-Master, if 105mm is more important buy the Sony 24-105. Usually I use the Sony 24-105 on my A7-iii and additionally a Sigma 14-24 dg dn on my A7R-ii. Lovely equipment although really heavy :-) Have a nice christmas and a happy new year.
I noticed there's a purple tint with the apsc body and none with the full frame.. is that always going to be the problem with FF lenses on crop bodies? I really want this lens since the sony apsc equivalent is more expensive... I have an a6400
Does distortion and vignetting even matter When they can be corrected in post with a single button? 😊
Of all the Sigma lens you have tested, which would be your top three?
I don't see this on amazon US yet
Hi Christ, how's the coma performance of this lens wide open at 24mm?
Hope to see reviews on the sigma 24-105 and sony 24-70G thank you
Any idea about frequent dust issue of this lens?
I like those sheep, very cute, merry christmas
i currently love the sony 24-70mm G but it’s only because i get to borrow it from my job $2,000 isn’t exactly ideal so for $1,000 i am definitely considering this in the near future
Nice Video 👍🏻 Is the lens suitable for Sony6400
You describe the Sigma as being sharper in the center. How much of a difference are you seeing in the center?
That's why I'd go for the Tamron 24/70 that ha IS and is equally fast
Nice review, as always, Christopher. What’s your assessment of zooming during video? I just purchased the 24-105 and its zoom ring is so stiff and jerky as to make it unusable for video.
