    A bonus for the Sigma ,is the zoom goes the right way ,for anyone used to cine zooms or ENG zooms , a shame Sony does the "wrong way" the PZ lenses you can change in the camera menu ,fx cameras anyway , but not these stills lenses , just being able to not think about the zoom direction is worth it for me .Also love their newer model DGDN Art primes , but wish they would come out with a new 24-70 with an aperture ring.

    Excellent comparison Josh, thank you! I've had the Sigma for my A7SIII since it came out - it's definitely a warmer and greener-looking lens which I prefer most of the time. This comparison has convinced me I don't need the GM II. Thanks again for your efforts.

    When I had my Sony A74 this was the first lens I bought and it was always glued to the body. I was ok with its size and weight. I thought it was well balanced. Loved it - amazing quality photos for $1299 Canadian when on Sale. I shot my daughters prom with the Sigma. Wish they had this lens for Canon or Nikon.

    This was actually very useful for me. My only 24-70 is the old F4 Zeiss and its always had a sharpness problem. It was an open box product so someone clearly returned it for a reason. I aim to replace it with something better. Sigma might be it.

    Hi there Josh, a question... Is the Dust a really issue in the Sigma? I work on the Car Scene, and I'm moving into the track side of it, so there is a lot of dust, in the air, gas from the oils and gasoline etc.. I need some thing between that range of 20-70 non Prime to work on Pits and others areas beside the track but I keep reading that sigma gets dust in the inner glass easily

  • @Josh_Sattin

    @Josh_Sattin

    As I mentioned, it was an issue with the early production of the Sigma, but supposedly it has been less of an issue with later copies.

    If you have the older lense like mine. They take it in for free to fix it. Note. The newer and post fix lense have a stiffer zoom ring. Bit of a hindrance for me hence why I haven't decided to send mine in. Smooth Zoom is key for me.

    Another point that wasn't mentioned. The speed of the Sigma lense has limited speed of approx 20 fps, where as the GM support the speed of Sony A9 III = 120 fps. Not relevant for most people, but if you need the top fps that Sony A9 or A1 can deliver, then the GM is the only choice. I have an older model of Sigma 24-70 (the one with dust issues), and I ended up with buying the GM, simply because I trust (personally) the build quality more from the GM, than I do with the Sigma.
