super fast setup ... saw a guy chop his regular trailer wood splitter and weld on a quick hitch to run as an attachment, but wasn't near as fast as this. the self made splitter gave a micro excavator the hydraulic power it needed to actually push enough to split because the regular hydraulic thumb doesn't have enough back pressure to hold against the bucket pressure during a pinch.

Nice attachment for processing giant rounds if ripping with the saw gets old. Also nice is the log can be dirty and u can still break it down with this machine instead of messing up your chain ripping.

Try it on run of the wood hardwood and then we can make our minds up if it works good

From comments, looks like you need to tackle the wood we actually burn.

Why would anyone need to split softwood with an excavator.... If you'd like to sell some units, try splitting some actual hardwood firewood that people burn...

I bought one of these a few years ago for my bobcat mini excavator. I split about 14 cord of large oak and other hardwoods a year with it. I haven't started my hydraulic splitter since I bought it. Maybe I'm getting lazy in my old age, but I love it

It is more for large rounds you don't want to move around manually due to size and weight, To break them down to a more manageable size for further splitting. This is not really what most would use it for.

@StinkyTeal: Ah! So it's like your comment then? Actually, as mentioned by others, this IS efficient, at least for large rounds. I'm guessing you're not paid to "think," right? But at least your screen name is quite "efficient." I can't think of a better one for you, so all is not lost.

Very inefficient for a large machine - at least put a 4- way splitter on it !

Looks like a "regular" log splitter would be MUCH better in every way except for the piling ability. In truth it seems to pretty much sucks at that as well.

I could see splitting big stuff into quarters so you can lift it like a gentleman but to waste your time making it into a finished product is pure lazy and unnecessary.

Yeah but the excavator can split all day with no back injury, ever! Plus no bugs, ticks, or the chance of getting your hand crushed! And in any weather.
