Shure SM58 vs Behringer BA 85A Microphone Test

Музыка

#ShureSM58
#BehringerBA85A
I have had a few borderline psychotic people go off on me for saying the SM58 is sharper in the upper frequencies. Here are some things to consider before leaving a rude comment:
1. My EQ Graph PROVES the upper frequencies are sharper, do the test yourself if you don't believe me.
2. SM58 is an Industry standard use by artists like Prince
3. If in fact the BA 85A is sharper and clearer... someone tell me please why it is not the Industry live standard? considering it is 1/3rd the COST
In this video I test the sound Quality, Similarity, Compare, Contrast two different Dynamic Microphones.

Just to let people know, these microphones are not clones of eachother. The Behringer BA85a is a clone of the super-cardioid Beta 58a. So this is just a normal mic comparison and not like a clone shootout. With that said, the BA85a 100% sounds better in all cases, ignoring potential differences caused by distances and stuff like that. It's clearer without being harsh. Seems more like a sensitivity thing than just a top end boost. It has more depth on my studio monitors. I bought one awhile ago since my friend kept the SM57 I loaned her. Well she never gave it back anyways. So I bought a BA85a just to see what a $25 mic claiming to be a shure sounded like and I needed a super cardioid for field recording. It's not only "good for $25", it's good period. If I had an SM57 or SM58 in front of me and the BA85a, I would choose the behringer. Sort of an aside, but I would imagine that this is a great microphone to make a drum mic kit out of for budget people. I remember wanting to record bands a decade ago starting out in audio and stressing over the cost of a good mic kit. I would not stress with a bunch of these and something different for the kick and overheads.

I thought similar at first but I found the Shure to be sharper on the top End. I was using Sony MDR 7506 Studio Headphones. With that being said.. Much of what we all hear can change depending on the headphone or Monitor source. Thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching. But i agree @$25 it is a "Steal" for a Dynamic Mic.

Are you sure that’s accurate? The Behringer is a cardioid and the Beta 58A is super cardioid

I've tried these mic, for permormance i would prefer sm58. In a normal performance you cant distinguished the difference but in the long run you will hear the quality.

I agree. For the price, the Behringer microphone is only slightly less SHARP in the upper frequencies which could be adjusted on a mixer board to achieve a similar clarity to the shure mic.

The 58 is a legend! Thats it!! if asked, i would say i would save money to get the Shure Beta 58A which is being copied here by the BA85A, but for the price BA85A is pretty good!

Dont like these comparisons something that costs 20 against something cost 100 ,their not the same 58 is proven have them years let them fall never had one fail and good sound .So you cant compare like for like its like comparing a fiat and a toyota thel both get you from a to b .Compare it against something of near enough equal value like the shure sv100..

  • @newcastlemusicstudios

That's the point. The behringer is not a substitute as it does not perform as well... but people on a budget want to hear the comparison because they may need a cheap decent mic for temporary use until they can afford a the 58.

There's barely a difference between these 2 microphones, you can say what you want, but for anyone's ear that's attached to anyone that's gonna keep it real, they sound really close. True that the SM58 is a legend of a microphone, but it's a imitation is the highest form of flattery type of situation.
