Excellent video! Thank you. They all are good mics if positioned correctly in a boom arm (not on a desk tripod). Because most podcasts are listened to via mobile devices with average or lower-quality audio headsets, an average mic would do. The extra "bump" noises will be an issue while traveling and podcasting live events. Thanks again.

Good video, and I definitely agree with the conclusion that the SM58 beta is the best, but I have some very different ideas about podcasting. 1. The host would never handheld a microphone (so all of these are fine) 2. Whatever the handling noise or quality of the microphone: inexperienced guests will bump into it (repeatedly), and it will sound terrible (and if not, rule number 1 applies) and 3) hobby-podcasters often have a limited budget (so probably professionals would not even consider the Behringer, even though I think it's quite good) . So I think in the budget version of the 'best podcast microphone ' the BA85A or the XM8500 are definitely winners. I will stick to my pair of sE V7's (which in my case with my voice outshines the 58 beta in sound) and sE V3's for some other voices, and I will leave the SM58 beta where it is the safest: at home.

Sometimes use cases are different. I - for one - wanted something that his high quality and yet easy to travel with without the weight of a full on SM7B. That's why I am looking for a mic of this hand held style (and the SM7B is almost 3 times the price of the Beta 58A). Handling noise may be an issue… but then again… these mics are used on stages all the time, for panel discussions, singers, and announcements or spoken word.

Thank you for the video, can you test shure sm58 and beta58a on the street or place with a lot of noise in order to observe what is the exatly diference in terms of how these isolate the noise. I try to record the voice clean on street interviews, but some times because is a none control-noise-place the records lost information of speakers. i know that there are special micros for that scenarios, but i try to know with these 2 micros what can works better. Regards.

As good as the Behringer is for the price, it still sounds a bit cheap, but ok for fun karaoke without singing into a complete toy. Shure Beta mics can be found on sale and SM58 has spare grills on the market too. Yes, it sits on the middle ground without sacrifice. For instruments, the SM57, or Beta 57A are both good. Can't find better.

Sm58 sounds best for your voice.

You should try the Behringer SB 78A, you’ll be surprised. Good luck!

I am not looking for a new mic at this time. But I am assuming that they have a great offering.

behringer is a funny brand regarding headphones and microhones. all look similar to other brand models.

But at least they are not trying to scam you buy pretending to be that brand. And for the most part, they are also significantly cheaper. I feel like that's fair competition.

You were p-popping all 3 mics. The proper way is to point the mic toward your mouth but talk it at a 45° angle. Also you are too close to the mic, causing proximity effect (boxy bass added). Back off to 4" on the BA-85A and talk it at 45° to save your money. Suspend it or sit on a sorbathane or equiv. base.....you won't be handling during podcast. Proximity effect bass is awful....back off to get rid of it or use a mic with variable D such as EV. RE-15, RE-16, RE-20 etc. If you want more bass, get an equalizer. Also use a mic preamp with a compressor such as the UA line....the largest blunder of podcasters: no compression. Every radio station in the country has compressors, for a reason.
