Surprising Results - Behringer BA 85A vs Shure Beta 58A (feat. Emma Rutherford)
Музыка
A cheap $35NZ Behringer mic goes head to head with a $329NZ Shure mic. They almost look the same, almost feel the same, almost weight the same, but do they sound the same? Regardless, the Behringer mic is a good starter for anyone and could be a test of skill for experienced soundies.

Behringer SL75C Vs Shure SM57 Review
• A close battle! Behrin...

I listened to all three of them without knowing which mics they were, and amazingly mics 1 and 3 sounded clearer. Mic 3 sounded the most balanced. These were both the Behringer BA 85a. Mic 2 sounded the worst to me, and it was the real Shure Beta 58a. Hillarious !! Good job Behringer.
Actually, 2 mic is more clear and full. But it could be overcome by adjusting the EQ!! Amazing review thx!😊
Just a couple seconds of the three tests was all I needed. The moment I heard the second take I knew it's the Shure and it blows the Behringer out of the water unfortunately. So much more defined, clear, airy yet smooth and without that weird grainy quality the BA85A has that makes it sound almost lo-fi. I own and love a lot of Behringer stuff (BA18A, SL75C, XM8500, used to have a UMC202HD interface and some other stuff) but they didn't hit on this one I'm afraid, even EQ didn't help it too much. Regarding the video itself, the blind test was perfect - well recorded, time stamped, good performances. That's exactly how it should be done, so huge thanks for that!

I still love my shure mics, owned one for 10 years still going strong. Behringer will suit someone looking to get into music or even a kid vocalist, or their parents who arent too "Shure" about buying an industry standard vs a entry level. Thank you for your feedback and describing what you can hear. It will help others in the comments section too =)
Number 2 sounds better... For my deep sorrow... :)
my ranking, by ear was 3, then 1, last 2.. so I definitively need to buy this mike.
Test both in a live performance, with a loud band surrounding the singer, isolated tests can be compensated with EQ, my main stage mic is a Senheisser, so not biased either way. The beta is sold on its superiority in isolation over the standard 58.
Mic 2 was the best. Didn’t have any of the weird harshness in the sibilance and sounded more open and clearer compared to the Behringer. I’m curious to see how the Shure Beta58a compares to the AKG D5

Wow i liked the 1st take the most. The 2nd take was the worst too much air but it could be mixed out too. But for 9x the price not so sure. Either way she had great takes and good belting. Having flawless mics are better than boosting bc you could use 2 cheap mics that are flawless but lacking flavor. Just like if you boost a hiss it will sound worse. People underestimate the power of lack of noise. Its not a balancing act. You cant have something bad and also good and boost them both and hope its pleasant. Its okay to have flat boring clean recordings thats what expression and effects are for. Good vid.
Thank you so much for the review! Do you remember the EQ settings you used on Mic 3 to make the BA 85A sound more like the Beta 58A?

@@BandOnABudgetNZ Thank you so much for your help. Blessings!
I'm a bit angry that I liked microphone 2 the best. I'd hoped it'd be the other. Damn.
I was quite surprised by the difference in this case, tough behringer makes great stuff (I have the umc202hd its great) this time shure really showed who's boss (still in a busy mix it wouldn't really matter)
Shure sounded way better. Like a professional studio mic.
Low frequencies on mic 2 make the voice sound "boxy" so for female voices, definitely BA 85A

Yes, the mic 2 sounded kind of more muffled.
lol I liked the first mic the most. I'm sold now. lol Well, I did guess the mics right except for the mic 3. I thought it sounded too muffled. Especially compared to mic 2. I think you over compensated a little bit when you EQed it.
Hmmmm, well. Listening with my reference headphones. I liked mic #1 and have never heard a Beta 58a sound as bad as it did for #2. But I put the Beta58a on deep male voices to give them some presence. For female voices it's always an SM58. The processing on #3 left annoying artifacts that for me would be unusable. Price on Amazon today for a BA 85a is $31 and change. I'd pick up a couple for guests to sing with the band or for a discussion panel. Not a bad mic at all.

@@BandOnABudgetNZ great minds think alike. I learned my lesson on a big party gig where I used my Beta 58a because it's perfect for my voice. The hostess wanted to say a few words and she grabbed my mic which she then dropped on a marble floor. The capsule was broken. She paid me $160 for the mic and I did a warranty exchange with Shure for $80. I came out ahead on that one plus the generous tip. Great clients. Now I take cheap mics to gigs, even for me.

His Beta 58 has holes near the XLR port.. that is usually a givaway for a fake :)
the 3rd mic sounded the best to me...
According to my hearing taste; 🎤 1 sounds sharp .. 👍👍 🎤 2 sounds dull .. 👍 🎤 3 sounds balanced .. 👍👍👍
With my headphones on I could tell the second mic was much smoother and overall cleaner. SHURE IS STILL NUMERO UNO #1. 💯 If you’re serious about your craft go with Shure beta series. The other stuff, let the kiddos play with. Use that stuff at sport events and speaking only.
Your beta 58 looks weird, has one extra hole near the xlr , pretty sure the original only has two holes... are you sure it is genuine? , you also mention that the Behringer is heavier, which shouldn't be the case.

@@BandOnABudgetNZ he is saying the shure is not original, not the behringer
Akg c3000 made in austrian 15 χρόνια επάνω στην κάψα και ακόμα παίζει. Made in China???
i own BA 85A. It's just not my taste. Definition is quite poor making singing a bit harder. Maybe im just a poor singer. I'm happy with my Rode M.2
The Beta 58A sounded better and smoother compared to the EQ'd BA 85A, the harshness is noticeable.
Suena horrible el ba85a no lp compren lps clon 58 de aliexpress suenan mil veces mejor
