I'm from the city and when I have moments like that I step back and think "Why am I so crazy? Marie would never lose her shit like that." Knowing that you would makes me feel normal. I love you for being real!

Omg you always have the most perfect timing!! I've been working on starting my business for a while now and every time I get stuck on something, I can always rely on your next video to be exactly the guidance I need! And of course, the past few days I've been thinking about this topic quite heavily and there you are with the perfect new video. Thank you :)

THIS WAS PERFECTION! I struggle with this myself and because of the whole "social media" vibe we got goin on in our time and age, the pressure is on to be consistent with your personality in all areas of your life-your job, your business, your friendships, etc. However, I have always found that challenging because I see that I'm not the same person in every circumstance or around every person so THANK YOU for clearing up that 1. We all have multiple personalities and 2. We get to choose which facet of your diamond you want to show people because it's ALL a diamond. So awesome! Thank you! :) This has definitely become another favorite episode of mine! :) Thanks Marie!

This is why we all love you so much Marie. Very wise. I don't have kids but that is really touching how considerate you are of your audience. I love how you contrasted Chelsea Handler and Ellen. Even though you are talking to thousands of people, your words are helping me to find ways to trust in my instincts to start "showcasing" (where appropriate) my favorite aspects of my personality instead of those more professional characteristics that brought me to where I am today as an employee.

I love the acceptance that you adapt yourself in different environments. In my content I try to find a balance between being myself and still being professional - I try to limit cursing (would never drop an f-bomb!), never discuss anything controversial/offensive, etc.!

This is the very thing that has stunted me from starting my own blog. Ive been concerned about what voice to write in because Im typically witty and have a sarcastic sense of humor. But Im afraid that I wont be taken seriously or will offend people if I write in this tone. I know it depends on the topic and audience but I find writing more professionally to be boring and it feels more like work. But its much easier and fun when I write exactly whats on my mind and heart. Anyway, you've given me something to think about Marie so thanks!

I thought this was very hard to do at first in my own business, but I realized that most of what my business is about, it is reaching to the general audience, so that would be a primetime during the day network. Do I have moments of being on Late night cable yes most definitely but this is my main personality that I want to showcase !! I say do whatever feels comfortable for you !!

This is a great topic for me. I actually was having a conversation with my mentor about this, yesterday. I tend to hold back, and I have learned, that it makes me seem standoffish. People think I don't like them. Thing is, it is WAY further from the truth. I hold back too much. I have to find a balance and actually find my authentic personality, but to where I feel safe, and where others feel loved and welcome. I might be able to do this more effectively through writing. Something to think about for my upcoming business. Thanks for the tips.

Great post, Marie! Once she's settled on what voice she'll use, she can instill her voice into her writing by using a voice recognition software like Dragon Naturally Speaking. It's a great way to instill your personality into your writing.

I really, really like this advice. I've always felt like I had many personalities and never just one. And my written voice has always been different than my speaking/entertaining voice. I used to worry about that. So this is exactly what I needed to hear!

Brilliant video! I have never seen anyone put out advice like that, People keep saying to 'be yourself' in KZread video's but its important to understand that the 'other me' is also just that 'me'. I am planning to play a different character on my KZread channel, and its a bit mean than I really am (for entertainment purpose, ofcourse) but I do wish that my audience understands this that even though I am a bit of a mean-y its not really the only aspect of me. All in all, after this huge comment, thank you for this video, I guess this is that push I needed to introduce that character.

Great points... And at the end of the day you just have to try it and see what connects with your audience. The personality you choose may not be the one the public wants to see from you. Try different things and see what gets the best (possibly most divided) response...

I think when people want to promote or market their brand, they are also thinking about their image. I agree that you have to have a clear vision and a clear audience in my mind that you want to present your brand to. And like you said as your business expands and you reach a more diverse (age group) audience, then you may consider doing some tweaking to present more appropriate material and content.

A creative video can be used in email signatures, advertising copy, landing pages and various social media channels. If you properly promote your businesses video, it will bring more of a personality to your brand when you are trying to attract customers online.

Sometimes I feel like I "should" say something a certain way when posting on my Facebook page for my business, and I only think that I should say it that way because that's the way other people say it... And then I thought ... hang on... why should I market my garments a certain way just because everybody else does it that way, yes it's working for them, but... it's boring... ! My boutique is all about being different and contemporary and out-there so why not portray it that way I've put my own spin on selling by saying things differently and talking to my customers the way I would talk to my friends, that way they can get a real personal relationship with me and my company and it doesn't feel like they are talking back to a computer or a pre-written verse! e.g.: Instead of saying "want to know how to style these new pants for winter? Why don't you try a black t shirt" I'll say "So, I guess now you've bought these sweet threadz you want to know what to wear with them hey? Why not back it with a black tshirt, a black crewneck and throw on black hi-top sneaks for sleek winter swag"

This is a hard one for me! The goofy side of me gets lost sometimes in the "host" me. I posted a photo going to a "sexy lady" audition once and got comments about how that's not family-friendly like everything else I post. AND I have to be careful because I want to be an open book but my husband and I are both actors and need to keep some privacy as well! Something I will continue to deal with. Thanks for your help!

Same for me...I'm a music teacher and a performer. Two completely different sides. I stopped allowing profanity on my Facebook page because of this, and am very selective about what I post to which social media outlet. I use them for different audiences and that kind of helps with me getting both sides out.
