I dont think the lacking in game map is a con, thats a super pro! If you had a map the whole feeling of being lost wouldnt be as great.

About that paint map system. It’s called a pen and paper. Started using one to remember extra shit when playing Fallout 4 and it’s been a welcomed addition to playing games

There is a map, if you go to the edit islands menu it shows you the entire map of the game.

So is there a survival mode where I can just play or do I have to do that in story? Qnd just never progress

I got it for free as part of the PS+ collection and downloaded it the other day. I rowed to the first island. Couldn’t get out of the life raft. I pressed every button I could, multiple times. After 10 minutes I gave up.

You need to move your camera onto the raft and hold square

To be fair i got disspointed there isnt really a threat on the islands, the only really threats are the bosses and a shark. If the game would go in the forest style i gurentee that the game would be more intresting and fun

This game gets a lot of hate for bugs, building is finicky, your raft can literally float away and its GG if you have no island supplies left, and can be a bit annoying to get lost / drown. HOWEVER, there is literally NO GAME on the market that is as terrifying when it comes to the ocean in this game. No other games ocean even remotely compares to this game...whomever tech'd this ocean deserves an award. Not Sea of Thieves, not Subnautica, not Crysis none of them. Because all those games spend too much time worrying about top water "sheen" and glare, but that's not how the ocean actually looks IRL. It's hazy/merky, and hard to quantify. THIS GAME is on a different level...if you have literally the smallest fear of the ocean this game will exponentially raise it. Even swimming out 20-30ft from your Island for supplies is an anxiety inducing mess. Let alone sailing at night. Any time you touch the water you will have a sensory hit you won't get in literally any other game. And that is why I love this title...there's nothing even remotely like it if you want to feel terrified in the water...except maybe if they made this game in VR....god forbid.

Totally agree with you, I have been enjoying this game for years on Xbox & pc, and i have escaped many times on different play throughs but the ocean still make me feel scared. I also own all the games you mention, for me Stranded Deep is by far the best, on another level.

The most accurate summary of this game I've ever read.. you're totally right about the realism of fear the game induces.. shark repellent usage was the only way I could get into the water when I first started the game, but I'm slowly letting go of my dependency on it just to live that fear every now and then..

I hate open water. The game is fu..ing hell for me.

It was entertaining for awhile…but I would recommend Subnautica if you want a more fleshed out and polished ocean survival game.

dear lord its prolly been a year since i shit myself hearing the leviathan in the pitch black of the deep ocean. they dont really market that one as a horror game, but it 100% is one. kinda curious how its changed. was fun then for sure. trust me, its realistic enough

It's my understanding that the walls and structures never take any damage. The different material can make a difference for things like farming plots, but the reality is the trees don't grow back. Once you chop it down, it's gone forever. So many of the crafting items use sticks that it makes sense to use alternatives whenever you can.

It's on gamepass just came on today gonna try it

A big con is that the islands are just way too small

You kind of spoilt what the bosses were on accident by showing us the trophies

On ps4 I'm able to swim from island to island if I go balls to the wall and don't stop

So you don't want to spoil the bosses but you clearly show not only you fighting the bosses and their nameplates, but also the three trophies that they provide. Expert editing.

Great review. The price is fair for the overall experience you get with this game. Just imagine the RDR2 engine in 1st person on a stranded island.

Yes you should buy this game. You should also buy Green Hell (the best survival game). The Forest is a second close.

Haha. Even I know how to use a compass but everything looks the same and there is no way to gauge distance well in this game.

Lol a map.. you have a compus you have direction, you have memorized small islands. How can you get lost? I've never gotten lost in game. Yes they could of added giant sea clams, lobster or even a sea urchin. The fact you kill a giant shark and only get 2 large steak's. I know it's like a messed up order at McDonald's 🤣 it could use some improving . Or even using bones in arrows, or a good skinning knife. But overall it's a great survival game.

Tbh this game had huuge potential,just the wrong orentation from the developers,It would be so interesting with some under ocean cities,or i dont know,some kind of monsters.. And a better developed online mode would ve saved the whole game.And oh,i ve almost forgotten,it cost way too much than it s actually worth.In my opinion,this game s price it s too big,5 euros i think it s reasonable.

Game no longer works kinda sucks it's fun tho when it did. Now you lose items always then glitches out. It lasts about 8 days only before you notice items missing, items falling thru the map, all fruit disappears, items in boxes disappear.

After over a decade of upgrades the game is still riddled with bugs latest being rainfall doesn't affect water stills nor plants and tanning rack doesn't function. That's not to mention the worthless crafting system where half the things you create have absolutely no function at all when you can obtain the same results by simpler means. Even the food system is antiquated and tiny sardines give you as much sustenance as a gull/crab or slightly larger fish. It would be a great game if someone where to improve the mechanics and sort out the bugs otherwise :'( I liked review but I don't believe you've tried it out or you would have discovered these flaws.

It’s alright but after you actually go out an explore you find out the game is not as impressive as you would’ve hopped and the ending is the worst thing ever made. Save your time and money and don’t play it :D
