Excellent review! Back a few years ago I had version 0.02, then upgraded to 0.16 H. Everything about this game works well. Seriously considering buying it now. It's the crafting menu I just gotta get used to.

@ConfusedOilPainter Well I spent quite some time on the game , i'm over 10 hours played with all the wipes I got. Even tho I didnt make it that deep into the content where the Copter is I feel I got a good enough grasp on the game to give a review.

I find music and sound very essential to the whole process of immersion into a game. That's why I loved subnautica. I don't know about this game however. Maybe I'll try it.

I just got done playing through Subnautica, I completely agree - the sound in that game was amazing.

I'll be honest, when you mentioned the sense of ownership over the stuff you built, where you don't get the same feeling in other games like Grounded, but you get it in this game... Sold it for me. That's one of my issues too. A lot of survival-crafty type games are fun, but I never get this sense of "I made this and it's mine".

I somehow got it for free I guess it was one of epics freebies I just didn't remember. I noticed it while browsing the epic store then I went in my library and noticed it again and decided to see what its about and it looks pretty good. May have to give it a try especially since its free.

I bought this game a while back as well and didn't give it much of a chance because I got the Forest and the Long Dark at the time which are both epic survival game's while I'm at it Subnautica is a great survival game that is very underrated.

I havent played yet because I keep watching for sales while getting physic'd up then once on sale I'll watch/read that one person who deters me. This isn't one of those deterrents tho.

I tried, but this may not be the game for me. I like "open world/sandbox/crafting/procedurally generated landscape" (or "islandscape", in this case) type games. But I'm trying to find a simple piece of cloth, and I travelled out to a half submerged wrecked ship (only the mast was fully above water), but I got separated from the starter raft, and it got dark faster than I expected, and I kept seeing this shark circling around the wrecked ship, and it WOULD NOT GO AWAY, and it wouldn't become daylight fast enough (I was getting dehydrated) and I decided to try and make a mad dash swim for shore, and I started taking damage (guess the shark was biting me), and it was dark, and this produced a fear in me I'm not used to. I just shut off the game at that point. Haven't felt that type of fear since cowering in a locker in "Alien: Isolation" (which I never did complete). I want to build big tropical island farms, not fight sharks.

I really get this - the game is really brutal your first few times through. I agree that the resources are a little to scarce. When it comes to the shark I was surprised how easy it became to kill them after a short time - they're really intimidating tho.

Ps plus brought me here, and this excellent review kept me here. Subbed.

They really updated a lot of the game!

FYI the game not much changed in last years. And it is still in early access on Steam. Don't know about release on consoles, because many ppl that wrote reviews guess the devs quickly made ending from what they had at hand and pushed out for consoles as final version. All last years updates looks like more imitation of work than work itself. What you, new players see now, we seen 5 years ago give or take few things.

Thanks for the in depth before I buy I needed to buy this game. I need a solo survival game. I'm buying conan exiles tomorrow and I'm excited to play this until then haha. Maybe I'll like it so much I'll not buy conan for a couple weeks.

I would say they're pretty similar in their mechanics and what your goals are. This games setting sets it above the Forest for me. The idea of being stranded with nothing but ocean around you is just proper terrifying to me.

It looks like quite a bit of the flora assets were.

On PC it has multiplayer, but on console it isnt.
