Just based on my own idea of life, being alive is not the same as living. You can be alive, but are you living? Are you living a fulfilled, happy life on your own? If I was connected to machines, can’t speak, can’t walk or talk, with no hope of ever getting better that was just my life now, dude, let me go. I’m not happy, and I can’t even live. I’d like to go, be in no more pain, and have no one worry about my state of being anymore. If I were forced to continue living, that just becomes torture at that point. And when it comes to a child, we have to ethically think what is best for the child, regardless of our own wants. If my child had a condition that they can’t just overcome, it’s with them for life, and they’ll always be hooked up to machines, never able to walk or eat on their own, in pain.. why am I going to bring something into this world and then force it to suffer? I’m not talking about mental disabilities, I’m talkin full body disabilities where they will never actually LIVE.

You both are incorrect. I have a severely handicapped child and she is very intelligent, happy and very aware that she is different. But hey want to change semester no problem there. Like who the fuck do these people think they are deciding who should live or die. Go handicapped school. It'll blow your mind how much they have to offer the world.

@pamelabibby8642 especially thinking raping the disabled isn't a crime, or bestiality. My daughter is severely handicapped andi am super crazy who I let near her. Bit if someone raped her. They would disappear. My son who just some context was normal this Thanksgiving 6years on that day was hit and killed. The dumb bitch that did it didn't have an ounce of remorse. I talked to her one time and asked if she wanted to know medically where we were. Her exact words were no not really. She was texting and had her dog on her lap. If it wasn't for my daughter her life would be quite different today. All the changes this world has been going through and the severely handicapped and disabled are at the bottom. It makes me sick. My daughter is always happy and wickedly intelligent but people would never think that. Typical comments I read are they just lay there all day drooling all over themselves. These days mental health is a huge issue. Six in elementary school is normal. B7t jy girl still gets stared at and snickered at. If I did that to someone transitioning I would be labeled 20 different things. Something has got to change. When she was a baby and people would be blatantly ignorant I'd chase them down in the parking lot. Time has gone on and I don't let it bother me. If someone would ask a question, they would learn something.

Dealing with unbearable constant pain from the moment your born only to be able to feel peace under a vegetative state is not life let alone a good one. Singer makes a good case for euthanasia. The other fellow doesn't even answer Singer's question and instead tries to create a straw man analogy on Dr's assumptions for quality of life.

@Taylor Anne whose? The Dr, the parents, the baby? Please be clear. Assuming it is the parents decision, which it usually is, they consult with Dr and a 2nd opinion on the path forward and what works for them. If they want to tackle further care or euthanasia is a hard decision from each perspective. Neither side is absolutely correct, but there should always be a choice.

You forgot that medical predictions on newborns is not 100% reliable. Newborns can get diagnosed with a disease from birth and growing up 100% healthy. Steven Hawking is an example, his disease was supposed to kill him less than 5 years but he lived 40+ years. Medicine is a flawed sciencie because humans are naturally unpredictable. Therefore: Ending a child's life is murder and wrong.

While your comment does have a lot right with it, don't forget that we are SUPPOSED to have bodies. This is why we wait for the physical resurrection as Christians. Humans properly exist as body and soul, and to die is to lose your body. Of course, in heaven we will be free from suffering, but many forget that our bodies are part of who we are.

I think Peter's argument as a vegan animal rights campaigner is very valid because it is true that human life often takes precedent over other animals, but also over medical expert opinion about the wellbeing of relying on medical technology to sustain life. We have a real problem of not understanding people's subjective experiences of life, so we may underestimate the value of someone's life, but also conversely overestimate it by diminishing their suffering.

And wickedly smart, I don't feel that unless you've spent any amount of time around the disabled you should be talking shit, I don't mean you by the way. The joy I get when I'm around her is the purest most genuine love. I really think people just believe they sit there drooling all over themselves looking at the same spot on the wall. They all have personalities. My daughter on state tests in school failed miserably. Huh what would she know about science or geography? So of course they're going to tell you she's 2. Also as a parent you have the right to send them to your local school. Which to me is insane, she's 24 now and when she was in school we had a group come in and start taking pictures and videos without permission trying to say we segregate them. We had a huge meeting and the principal and I were close so she knew I'd be the first to say something. Needless to say they disappeared. Like these kids have enough to deal with.

Hello, Sameer. Part of my life has involved seeing people in great pain which could not be relieved if they were also conscious. Sometimes, as with bone cancer, I could hear moments of crying even though the person was nominally unconscious. Sometimes, short of a fatal dosage, pain relief is not adequate. Euthanasia may not be the answer, but it may be the best we can do if we are trying to act mercifully. Singer does not pretend to have easy answers, and I respect his views, which accord with my own insights, such as they are. Best wishes to you.

Take time to love them and make their lives as comfortable, bearable, and enjoyable as you can - I do help them in this way, and it gives them great quality of life. What is objective and most conclusive to me, is not the most objective and conclusive to you. Just like how the most thought of objective and conclusive evidences for evolution and the big bang for the same people don't satisfy me. Only with bias comes satisfaction, as a conclusive answer can only come after conclusive honest research. As of now, both sides are still researching. For me personally it's not evidence that pushes me to Creationism, it's consistency. Evolution is not an origin science, so it relies on something else like the big bang. That makes sense until you realize there is a gap in the story. Where does life fit into this. Spontaneous generation has been proven a myth for a very long time now. To suddenly rely on it again kinda pushes me away. While creationism doesn't have perfect answers yet, it has a complete story.

Try and understand the philosophy of Jesus. Read a gospel, look into the cultural context. I also suggest that you pray, out loud on your own and ask God to show you the truth. I'm christian and though I believe the christian worldview is logical, faith is not. I used to hate saying that faith isn't logical but then I came across Kierkegaard's Fear and Trembling, and he explains it quite well (well in my personal opinion). If at the end of your quest for truth you still find the answers unsatisfactory then I guess no one can fully convince you. As long as you know in your heart that you've truly analysed both arguments, then I guess no harm no foul. I wrote this because there is an abundance of evidence that suggests there is a God, and a christian one at that. Depending on certain factors we gravitate to different ones, and find others pointless. I realise you may already have made up your mind on this matter, I hope that before you did you at least read one book in the bible - and analysed it in context, and done have done some reading for both sides of the argument. Hope you have a good day, sorry for my rambling haha. Will keep you in my prayers

@@ruthbajela1246 I've been doing that for 15 years. Many books and debates under my belt. I thought I would ask using the principle of charity without making it a debate. I felt that of I asked for the best, most convincing without argumentation, there's a chance I might learn something.

Obviously you don't know me and you don't know my appearance or my IQ level (low),therefore my lifelong thriving and survival and enjoyment of life,I do have low moments, but my success at living despite being void of personal attractiveness, intelligence or charm proves to me the existence of God. Of course it also proves to me that He is a bit of a Bastard,if he had only created me normal looking I could have had a normal life like other people. Or would that actually be boring?!!

@@83reggieT "selfish assholes contribute in the lives of their fellow man", yup, typical socialist thinking that society has a 'default' wealth that unfairly taken by other people. ' Who if it wasn't for them you wouldn't have the money in the first place', what do you think happen when a transaction in a capitalist country happen, one person steals money from other people? It's a voluntary transaction, meaning you wouldn't do that transaction if you do not think you receive an equal value of product or service. I'm pretty sure you are one of those people who parroted a certain socialist politician 'the rich getting richer while the poor getting poorer', flash news for you, both the rich and the poor are actually getting richer.

I support euthanasia, but I think one problem with euthanizing severely disabled children is that mildly or moderately disabled children will be scared living in such a world. One of my mother's friends starved her severely disabled infant daughter to death. That child's life would have been miserable if she hadn't died. But whenever my mother talked about this, I got very scared, because I had depression and my mother didn't really like me and I thought what she was really saying was that she wished she could have done the same thing to me.
