Should Trans Women Be Allowed to Compete in Women’s Athletics?

Ойын-сауық

Should transgender athletes be allowed to compete with those of the gender they identify with or must they only compete with athletes who share the gender they were assigned at birth? Are laws that ban transgender women from participating in women's sports fair? LGBTQ+ activists have described criteria limiting transgender athlete involvement in gendered sports as "discriminatory.” Lia Thomas made headline news and stirred debate when she competed in swimming nationals as a transgender woman. Dr. Phil, along with Layne Ingram, a transgender man and basketball coach, and Olympic swimmer Nancy Hogshead-Makar, an advocate for girls and women in sports and CEO of Champion Women, discuss what they believe is right and fair. Then, Riley Gaines, who competed against Lia Thomas, gives her perspective on how she felt after their race. The big question is: what does the science say? Harvard professor Dr. Carole Hooven breaks it down. (21005RR)

I have absolutely no problem with trans people competing.. But not against women. It's not simply about hormones. I worked my butt off to be one of the first women to compete in mountain bike racing 30+ years ago. I fought hard to do that. We absolutely cannot compete against biological men! The male body is very different to a woman's. I'd love to be sat here saying I'm no different to a guy! Believe me I hate that I can never beat some men no matter that I trained just as hard as they did if not harder. To now see women athletes being silenced and losing to women who have had a male puberty and therefore have a massive advantage is heartbreaking . We are getting lost in the testosterone issue. The things I read are unbelievable. They say Trans people have a different brain structure..ok..I read that Transwomen have the brain of a woman..ok..Do transwomen know we don't think about the same things they do growing up as little ladies. We don't think we are in the incorrect bodies, we don't think about having surgery, we think about what's actually happening to us as we grow. We may want bigger tops and we think about keeping our bodies including our undercarriage safe and clean. We can have all types of feminine issues even if we wear the wrong undies. We have our cycles in which we learn how to properly clean, use the proper products, and dispose of them correctly. If young women are S******* active they worry about pregnancy and contraceptives in order to avoid pregnancy. Do transwomen go through these things? We are and will always be different. There is nothing wrong with being Trans..or Gay for that matter. But understand we will never be the same. Ever. We deal with the everyday things we were born with..which is enough in itself. Hand it back over for the sake of social acceptance? People can exist however they wish, and I'm not religious or against anyone, but everyone's rights must be considered, and majority rules. To take a womans place in sports and be in the same locker room when its making the majority want to give up on their persuit because though they've put their life into being the best at their sports, and now they are being blown out of the water is insane. and the cherry on top is they get to feel violated either sexually and/or religiously while changing right before the events they need to perform in? Oh and then there are the non-pro sports.. meaning this will happen to our daughters at school too. For the sake of what??.. a few percentages of the population feeling included and safer, while all women step out of their way and don't ask questions?! wtf😂😂😂 if you can train harder (T affects red blood cells btw) for x number of years OFCOURSE you have an advantage over someone who trained her best too, but her body couldnt sustain as much of a training... Testosterone affects: 1. boosts red blood cells 2. boosts regenaration from injuries and even day to day recovery 3. muscle mass, bones, even the damn organs and some you wouldnt ever think of like spleen (or lien), thats an organ where old or damaged red blood cells die - logically its developed accordingly to the number of red blood cells a human has. (ITS A FACT that men got more) 4. human body has physiologically very precise level of each hormone (cuz hormones are very potent in their effect even in small amounts, so minor decrease/increase has major effects) and believe me or look it up, hormones commonly regulate eachother - very simplified meaning: theres too much of one hormone our bodies quickly notice that and another hormone/s is/are released with opposite effects/inhibiting effect on the secretion of the first hormone and a balance is reached. but in reality its way more complicated, involving way more hormones that affect directly or indirectly other hormones... there are other regulating factors but my point is hormones are connected. Its not like we got ten hormones each for something different and they work on their own... So testosterone does have an effect on multiple other hormones but nobody is allowed to say that or they get paid to just leave that part out :))) lastly, i ask, if an athlete is on steroids for 5 years then he stops and reaches the natural levels. Does he have an advantage over his rival that has never done anything? stupid world and the people who understand it and could speak about it are being silenced or bought... Obviously a trans man to woman athlete has an advantage. If he was a competitive athlete before and not regular some joe, its common sense (but since that ignorant argued science, without any concrete explanation🙃) edit: i apologise had to correct some spelling and stuff, just those that needed correction so my comment makes sense😅 also im just a student, by no means do i know everything but behind close doors doctors say the same thing in a more complicated way😅

Well this is what happens when you don't let kids access puberty blockers and hormone therapy this is what happens right here. What do you think the puberty blockers and hormones are for, TO STOP THEM FROM DEVELOPING INTO THAT!!!!

Gender dysphoria is less than 1% of people. Trans children is not ethical. We don’t have enough research or data. The brain is developing until the age of 25. The newest Swedish study is a game changer. Who you are at 18 isn’t who you’ll be at 44. Bet.

My question is...why did they allow a Trans male and Trans female to compete on the same team?

  • @echo2413

I believe the trans man had not begun hormone therapy yet so he was unable to be qualified to compete with the men, whereas the trans woman had been on hormones for years and was medically cleared to compete ln the women's squad.

I do feel and believe 100% that trans women should be allowed to compete openly alongside biological women athletes. However, that should ONLY take place when the trans women athletes have completed 100% the medical part of their gender transition, INCLUDING SURGICAL GENDER RE-ASSIGNMENT SURGERY. Until the medical part of their transition is complete, no trans woman athlete should be allowed to compete in any form alongside biological women athletes.

Reassignment surgery is irrelevant but you're right about the rest, the thing is though, no trans person is trying to say otherwise. It's crazy that people genuinely believe that trans people don't go through years of hormone therapy to change their vodies. Do they really think we just wake up one day, say "I'm a woman" and then do nothing about it? 😂

Some trans people actually don't go through the hormone treatment.. I know a couple of people who haven't. They have changed their appearance but they haven't taken hormones either because they simply don't want to or in one case because of medical issues. They feel that who they are is about how they feel and not how they look.

@@lisadunn1138 That is absolutely true and valid, I'm trans myself so i understand. However, in the case of those women who have not undergone hormone therapy, it would undoubtedly be genuinely unfair to let them compete against cisgender women unfortunately.

@@echo2413even after treatment, it's still not the same if puberty has occurred. And it's not exactly the best to do puberty blockers as well. There is plenty that can be negative, but that's between individuals and their doc. The body is a strange thing and unfortunately we can't control everything. Unfortunately.
