I would compare Laine with Armia. Both have high potential talent, but have issues bringing it together. Unless Columbus can take some of his salary, I can't see the Habs taking him at 8.7 Mil and he continues to struggle. It would be a bad move.

The key is Grant said if "Laine is motivated he can score 40 goals blindfolded!" Keyword ,MOTIVATED. I want a player who is motivated for a 9am practice,a game 7 overtime game, sent to the minors for rehabilitation,a player who when he puts the CH on he becomes a different animal. The players that evoke/respect the ghosts of Elmer,Doug,Maurice,Henri.Guy! Slafs got it,Nick got it,Cole got it,Wifi got it.They just keep on rocking!

Even if Laine solves his problems, i don't like his contract: 2 more years at 8,7 millions... What if he wants to go UFA in 2 years from now? I don't really care about the next two years to be honest, Montreal will start to contend in 3 to 5 years from now... If you have no certainty in retaining Laine, i would stay away from this... For now. Next summer, it would be different as he would be able to sign an extension...

So Grant, Tony... would you rather have the CBJ trade Laine to us and pick the guy the Habs Management like the most at 4 ? Or would you rather have Colombus keep Laine & pick a D at 4th for us to then get the Lindstrom, Demidov or Sennecke our scouts truly want? I'm more inclined on the latter considering the uncertainties considering this otherwise superb player.

So the following was my 1st impression yesterday >>> Re: Laine, I say don't go there ... "Coach" Frenchie sums it up well : (1) Laine is prone to injury (2) He's on the NHLPA program 🇲🇦 (3) Salary cap (8.7 mil x 2 yrs) (4) Work ethic 👎 (5) Inconsistency (6) Doesn't fit within the Habs culture ..... WELL, ON 2nd THOUGHT ... Well, if the cost is right. If for example Columbus can do some salary retention, perhaps "re-take" Josh Anderson's contract (the irony !), the Habs really wouldn't have much to lose in trying him out short-term (like for a couple of years). In return, as Grant suggests, KH could perhaps add to the mix Harris and a lower draft selection (not necessarily the Jets' 1st round). At the end of the day, I guess it might be worth a shot ?

They aren't moving up the standings with 3 defence men who currently have 3 games experience. Calgary is picking 9th this year and Mtl have their 2025 pick. They moved out experience D recently and could finish even lower.

A lot of folks talk a lot of sh*t about Laine, that he was only good one season or something like that. Just so you know, Laine was the 12th most efficient even-strength goal scorer over the last three regular seasons. (minimum 1000 minutes played). Laine has a 98 % goals per scoring chance. And only 1 % of the scoring chances were High-Danger scoring chances, so he finishes from places others can't. In 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 Laine scored a combined 48+60=108p in 111 games in a team that sucked ass. He was the best-producing player in Columbus in both seasons. Yes, Laine has to get better with whatever mental health issues he is dealing with, but if he gets better and returns he can definitely be an asset.

Tony added nothing to this episode. Interjecting constantly with useless facts that have nothing to do with nothing other than making him feel smarter. The questions are longer than the answers. Bla bla bla bla I know you have an hour to fill but finally when good information is being exchanged we get interrupted with nonsense

@@acidraindrops1 Thats not enough to get Laine... Notice I offered another 2nd round pick this year as well.. which would be like pick #35 plus we could throw in a depth forward like Texier!! You guys Need Help at forward and want a Big Forward correct? Lindtsrom isn't gonna be doing anything significant for the Habs for at least another 2 to 4 years!!
