So I went in did some test rides, and price comparison, and am going with the Electra glide standard. Under 20 out the door, and only has what I need to start my build.

After riding a street glide 32,000 miles in a year and a half, and then trading to a road glide, i am indeed convinced the road glide DOES handle better. The fairing weight being fixed to the frame makes the handling so much smoother. if you're not looking for every ounce of performance, it just boils down to what you like riding and looking at!! Good luck with your choices, can't wait to see the next chapter.

as an owner of a road glide and a street glide, the road glide is more maneuverable than the street. you definitely feel the weight of the fairing of the street on slow speed turns and if you're not ready for it, it will surprise you. i was a street glide all the way until my road glide. now, if i'm doing distance, the RG is my choice. my SG is my local cruiser/bar hopper. if you do go with the street, you should think about the Electra glide standard to mod out. granted it won't be blacked out and have the 107, but it would be a blank canvas. I'd choose the RG.

I absolutely love my Street Glide. Mine has the Tour Pak added for extra storage which is really nice. For less buffeting I picked up a Clearview Shield recurve. It's got that lip you're talking about and it was night and day different. At high enough speeds I do occasionally get buffeting from the wind reflected off my legs, though it's not nearly as bad since changing windshields.

I kept my Dyna, but did upgrade last year to a Street Glide for those longer trips. Although I thought that I would spend equal time on both, the vast majority of miles were on the SG. One upgrade I suggest, to make the ride more comfortable, is the Klock Werks Flare windscreen (reduces noise, radio is a little easier to hear also).

Hmm, I dunno man. I'm not convinced that you really want either of the Glides. I know you want to keep the low, streamlined look, but that will be tough to do with any type large fairing and bags. Although, I think the Road Glide has more of an aerodynamic look to it than the Street. My personal vote is to build out a Softail. You can pull the bags on and off as you like. Get a decent sized fairing, but not something yuge. Plus you can put more of a personalized touch to it, whereas the Glides will always look like... Glides. Always interested to see what you do with the bikes, man. Just remember why you ride. Because it's fun! Make sure you get a bike that you'll have fun with. 👍 Good luck, brother!

I was in the same situation, 160 mile round trip for work. I traded my Fat Bob in on a 2019 RKS and detachable windshield for the same reasons you spoke of...modularity. Can remove the windshield in seconds, and it’s the lightest touring Harley, so it’s still fun for cruising.

I have a 2019 FLHX standard. I've been riding it since April 2019, came from a 2005 Yamaha V-Star 1100. I commute 100mi round trip per day for work, so going touring was a huge upgrade. Only "regret" I have was not penny pinching a bit more for the special w/ the 114 & blacked out features. The chrome is growing on me though. The fairing is so worth it as well. Way better than just getting windshield for a non-fairing bike. Been there done that.

I got a 2019 street glide same color as the one you are test driving actually. Got 12in bars on it and the bike is so comfortable for distance and in general and handles so well. Imo I wouldnt even mess with the softail. Test drive the rk special. Already has bags, you can put a fairing on it, already has higher bars etc. Makes way more sense than the softail and it's a great middle ground if you want a bike for distance but dont constantly want the fairing on it

I was going to build up my Heritage to more touring, but ended up getting the Street Glide. I also felt the Road Glide felt bulky and not as "every day" as the Street Glide. I went with the Freedom Shields windshield, they are less expensive, very thick and sturdy, made here in America, and also let you try it out for a while to make sure it is what you want. I also went with 10" bars to put my arms level with my shoulders, and changed out the rear shocks with the SuperShox (one of my best upgrades). I put Harley's premium ride cartridges in the front, but I'll be switching those out. They aren't as good as others they compete against. I should have known better to begin with. For reference, mine is a 2014 FLHXS I bought new. I've only got about 32k miles on it now unfortunately as I haven't been able to ride much the last couple years. Hopefully that'll change soon.

I ended up going with a 2019 Sport Glide. I'm not a huge fan of the fairing, but I didn't need all the bells and whistles that came with the big touring bikes. I also liked the fact I could strip it down to a bar hopper in about 5 minutes. The trunks and fairing on it pop right off, I don't even use the fairing unless I'm going for longer rides and looking at changing it up cause I want to change the handle bars. The trunks fit my gear and laptop bag. I do like the navs on the bigger touring bikes though, I just wanted a street bike that could ride long if needed. The low rider, which I had my eye on, didn't have the easy monospring adjustment or cruise control, plus I liked the inverted forks. Which I understand the 2020 Low Riders switched to.

Hi Blockhead, I have owned two Street Glides and am going to get another one. Been riding a Street Glide since 2006 when they first came out. I traded in my Road King and Night Train on one and have never gone back. It’s a great bike for touring and it looks good! Definitely turn around and look at my bike all the time! Enjoy your discovery stage!!

You won't regret it, traded my Dyna WG for the same exact bike you're sitting on. Grey SG Special.. couldn't be happier..long distance trips are great. I put on some mild apes for more comfort, ditched the heel shifter. Low speed full lock turns are a blast. I prefer the added weight of the fork mounted fairing, the RG just felt strange to me. But that's why we test ride lol.

Street glide probably better for your style as I kept getting the feeling the road glide size of fairing made you think the bike was too big and doesn’t fit your style. I had an old road king and you need to try a standard road king and it is just as comfortable as the others

The "glove box(s)" on the Road Glide are superior. If you have a modern phone (iPhone XR), it will NOT fit in the too small area on the Street Glide, making a mount or other type of thing necessary. I have a Street Glide, but with I went the other way. The wind "buffetting" is a non issue for me, but sooooooo many SG's out there.

You can't become a bagger bro without test riding a Goldwing at least once so you know what you're missing. While you're off the HD plantation, check out a Valkyrie too.

I'd go with what you like the look of the best, I have 37k miles on my 17 street glide and distance isn't a problem. Set cruise on 85 and haul ass, sit side saddle and one handed at times to stretch etc, put a seat (I put a mustang super deluxe and love it) and highway pegs on it if you need more comfort for distance. Again I'd go with what you like the look of the best.

I think you should try one of the softails so you can remove the bags and fairing as needed. That way you can ride around town and still be able to commit to those long rides to work with your gear.

It really depends on how far you wanna go at any given time. Ms. Blockhead rides her own, so it’s lot a matter of “is it comfy for both of y’all”. That was the issue for myself and my wife. We’re up in Tallahassee. We had a Dyna and found that anything longer than about an hour was not comfortable for her. But with our 2013 streetglide and the seat from an Ultra, we can go as far as we want. I miss the speed and attitude of my Dyna, but I love the “”Big Boy Bike” feeling of my streetglide. The step up is worth it. I did 1200 miles the same week I bought it, and it was fantastic

This is first of your vids I've seen post fxdr. I didn't even know ya were looking? Good luck BTW! I just got a RK for a second bike for 2 up, also got fxbr. I like the king ALOT, but wondering if you (like I) find the heavier weight of the big touring bikes semi bothersome? Thanx.

Yes, get one. You will be very happy. You’ll enjoy the front fairing blocking the wind, the saddlebags to carry a lot of stuff, navigation system, stereo, iPod connectivity, long distance riding capable, the sound, the cool factor, reliability, fun to ride, take someone with you…….

also, if it helps your decision any... i get 49mpg on my 2018 heritage 114 @ 80 mph on long trips. i have tab performance exhaust with zombie baffles and a power vision tuner. i run the tune for rhinehart slip ons since they didn’t have a tune for tab and i don’t want to spend money to dyno.

Bought a 18 street glide a few months ago. Upgraded from a 17 FXDB and have not had a SINGLE regret. I feel the bike is more agile than the dyna, and ALOT easier on the butt for longer trips. Plus radio is a world changer

I have a 2018 fat bob 107 and I rode it 124 miles roundtrip(62 and 62). Its stock but i have put almost 18,000 miles on it. It was brand new when I bought it and I live in LA. Traffic capital. It does the job easily. With the upgrades you would do to it if you bought one and it being the 114 your looking at. I'd say go with it. I wouldnt trade mine. But I would add a fairing for the wind.

i would recommend the street glide. Just did 600 miles each way to Vegas Bike week on my 2018. I have tried the road glide and prefer the street glide. I also rode my road king out from Austin TX to Sacramento CA and I really love having the stereo/infotainment system vs head phones. in my humble opinion all the baggers are a good choice for long trips/commuting but again my preference is the street glide ( for handling over the road glide ). And I want to say you are thinking of the Klock Works windshield.

Long ride shields makes a windshield with the lip on top. I believe Memphis shade and harley has a version too. I had a road king built out like a street glide with a ferring. Still had some buffeting. I have a 19 road glide and dont feel all the buffetting.

I'm a streetglide/ batwing of the Rushmore styles. The maneuvering seems more fluid than on a newer RGs, just me. Either way you go they are built for distance, and also in town shitn' gitin' . I use both my FLHC and SGS as my daily commuters, so I understand your delima in fun but function.

I used to have an Electra Glide Classic and now ride a Road Guild Ultra. I would choose a Road Glide for distance because you don't get any handlebar movement from the wind. But you have to buy what makes you happy. Ride Safe
