Oh yes I also understand that Messi was the goalkeeper in the penalty shootout against Holland and France and what a brilliant defender he was playing alongside Romero as centre back and there again he was scoring and assisting up top and then at the same time he was in midfield controlling the tempo alongside de Paul and Enzo. His Balon D'or compilation video is enough proof why he should not have won the award. He is improving this season, but last year he was severely limiited outside the penalty box. .People who say he scored tons of goals and broke records are either those who watch highlights or those who only see One Football for ratings. Scoring goals is important. Those decide the match. But midfielders and defenders are equally important. You can't score goals without good playmaking and chance creation. Haaland misses a lot of chances and can't create for himself. Messi can do both scoring and playmaking. Not to mention, he had the most MOTMs, highest rating in Europe TOp 5, and World Cup plus won multiple trophies, including league titles and Wordl Cup.

Thats utter BS. The award goes to the player who has performed best throuh the season. Not just 3 weeks. How do you know City would win without Haaland? Have they won Champ league before? Haaland was top scorer in both the league and Champ league. Just because he didnt score in the two last matches doesnt mean he disnt contribute to those victories cause when opponent teams play in a way Haaland ismt used as much as they should use him, he creates room for everyone else. Haaland is the only player in the world who has constantly two defenders on his bqck. Still he managed to score that many goals. Other players at City had much more room to play in because of that. So, Haaland was definately a HUGE part of winning the treble. Who knows what Argentina would manage to do without Messi? Often when teams have one big star, the others always give the ball to that player and expect him to o everything, but it has shown many times before that when you take that star player away, the other players step up even more and often they play even better as a team.

I’m sorry but this entire debate is so silly. We’re giving Messi the award based on his WC win, a 7 game tournament. You’re literally disregarding the entire club season. Surely, what you do/achieve for your club team where you play 50 odd games should carry far more weight than a 7 game tournament. Surely, if you’re in contention for the world’s best player award you should at least win the best player of your league. Messi didn’t even win that in France. It was Mbappe who won that.

people forget that this award isn't for the most goals or for the most trophies. It is for the best player. Yes, Halaand had a big impact on City to win but at the same time his teammates did too and that is why in the top 10 nominees were 5 City players but only 1 Argentinan. That is a big difference that people don't see. City is a very strong team and on top of all they have Halaand a goal-scoring machine but Argentina has a normal team with a magical player. Argentina couldn't even get through the group stage without Messi but City can because it is a dem strong team, and that is why Messi deserves it.

Messi deserves it for winning the World Cup and being a key part in their victory, he was also clutch in the big games. Haaland went missing in the biggest games of the Premier League and Champions League, he failed to score against the bigger teams and after the quarter-finals in the CL, if I stand correct in my recollection. Deserved winner. The vote is done by hundreds of top sports Journalists from all over the world, most of whom aren't in communication with each other. It's not just from some comity in France. It's not done by Fans. Messi is his team and single handedly carries. Haaland is the crown Jewel in an extremely, "well oiled machine"; excuse the pun. It's funny how so many people are quick to dismiss a World Cup as a 7 game tournament. It's a WC, played every 4 years with players that are citizens of the country (which limits the talent pool). Compare that with a two leg return played every year at a club level where you can buy the best players in the world to play for you (PSG, MC, RM, Barcelona, and so on...). You don't win the UCL oh well, better luck next year. You don't win the WC, oh well better luck 4 years from now. I also saw the goals from Haaland at the Ballon D'or and you could count in one hand the goals that were further than the penalty dot. He won the Gert Muller award for top scorer, the Ballon D'or is for the best player.

Messi is the most complete player that ever lived. He continues to play at his most complete level that Haaland is not capable of. Messi creates, scores from incomprehensible positions, passes as if laser guided, and scores from free kicks at will and at key moments of games. Haaland is undoubtedly one of the best strikers that ever lived, but he depends on service and strength. I agree with Guardiola, Messi can do things by himself and it’s magical, Haaland needs and relies on his teammates to score goals. I’m glad that this award rewards talent for the sake of talent and is not a “share the merit” award.

Your questions starts by sounding like your on favour of Haaland not getting the award and ends with the support he should? My opinion is Haaland should have won based on there overall seasons and based on how others have won the award. 2010 Messi won the award but didn't win the CL or WC shouldn't have won in my opinion 2018 Modric won by winning the CL and reaching the WC final shouldn't have won in my opinion either. The WC shouldn't have the impact it seems to have yes let it support it but not to the extent that it does.

The other scenario is big team trophies + individual performance so if you're on this boat and saying Messi shouldn't have won 2010 award then Ronaldo shouldn't have won 2013 award, hell Messi won la liga and CDR in 2010, Ronaldo went trophyless in 2013 but still won it. Easy answer. He was litterly ignored in those two matches because City played mostly sideways and backwards and he had had maybe one or two chances (not big) in those two matches. Look, you obviously dont know football. Forstly, the award is supposed to go to the player who has performed best through the season. Not just 3 weeks or 2 matches. Haaland was top scorer in both the league and Champ league. Just because he didnt score in the two last matches doesnt mean he disnt contribute to those victories cause when RM and Inter played in a way Haaland wasnt used as much as they should use him, he created lot of room for everyone else. Haaland is the only player in the world who has constantly two defenders on his back. They follow him whenever he starts to move. Still he managed to score that many goals. Other players at City had much more room to play in because of Haaland in those two matches. So, Haaland was definately a HUGE part of winning the treble. Only fools demand a player to score in every game to contribute.

Messi deserved the award for 3 pure logical reasons: 1. The WORLD Cup is the most competitive tournament and includes the best players all around the world. 2. If Haaland showed greatness at the end of the period Oct 2022 -Oct 2023, in that same period but at the begining, Messi showed greatness too but at in a higher level (the highest) tournament, the WORLD Cup. 3. The last time Messi played on a team as solidly coached and talented as ManC is today, he also put up Haaland-like numbers- without being a striker.

If it was ever about who is liked the most, Ronaldo and messi would have won it many more times and would still win it as long as they're still playing... Messi won it because he was the overall better player in terms of contributions to the teams he played for.. Haaland wasn't even at the world cup, I don't know if you watched the world cup but Messi carried Argentina when it mattered most, not only with goals but with assists and Messi performed consistently in matches compared to Haaland. Messi has consistently scored clutch goals/ assisted for PSG, Argentina and Inter Miami when it mattered most, in those important games for man City, Haaland was ghosting, plus he scored most goals in games where man city were winning by 3 or 4 goals... Messi got more MOTM awards than anyone in the past year because of consistency...no one else was that consistent in the same time period..

Automatically it's tempting same story like in 2010 when Iniesta won the world cup, LA Liga, Copa de lalay and Wesley Shynydar won champions League, Copa italia, serie A still fifa grabbed the Balon ndor to there player! Haaland was 100% a winner but that's how devils always crown in disguise.

Obviously Haaland should have won it. I mean Messi wasn’t even the best player at his club so how is he best player in the world. But anyway this award has no credibility and hasn’t for years now
