That is true, i had a BBQ smoker before and know some basic stuff but his videos let me spend more time on preparation, dry-aging and it improved my steak cooking. I also bought a Sous-Vide because i bought some Japanese Wagyu once and wanted to get it perfectly done. Little story for the Wagyu, i ordered 2kg of Rib-Eye and got 2kg ( so 4kg total ) for free as they made an error and send me way too much and in Germany they need to throw it when i send it back, so they let me keep it.

Yeah, a thin one is ultimately never as good as a properly cooked thick steak, but I like the thin ones in certain situations, because ALL they require is a good skillet sear, which also provides sufficient cooking on a steak that thin. As much as I love sous vide and torch or pan sear, it is sometimes more effort than wanted at the time.

I’ve always been fascinated with steaks since I was a kid learning how to cook, but I can safely say gugas method to simply seasoning with just salt, freshly ground black pepper and garlic powder. Definitely saved my Fourth of July party last year. The simple seasoning makes the steak taste so amazing. It brings out the natural flavors.

Next time you're in Texas, stop by an HEB. They have superior meats and produce. They kicked Albertsons and Kmart and one other out of town in the 90s, now it's HEB and Walmart. Only reason people go to Walmart is because they need non groceries as well so it's more convenient.

All three stores get their meat from Swift or national and one other when I can't remember that set the difference from store to store is actually how they cut the meat after it gets out of the package Whole Foods avoid the bandsaw except to cut through the bone everything else is hand-cut hand-trimmed just like Publix Walmart uses a band saw to cut their steaks you'd be surprised but just by taking care with the way that you process the meat once you take it out of the package makes that big of a difference also how they store the food contribute greatly

A few secrets on the BJ's steak, 1. the reason it's cheaper is because it's beef from Canada, hence why there is no USDA Choice sticker on the package. 2. BJ's packages all their fresh cut meat based on prices, meaning that they have a range on what is acceptable to put into a package so you might find 3 smaller steaks or 2 larger steaks in a package. 3. Their 100% money back promise is no joke, they literally take back anything no matter how much was left or whatever the customer did to the piece of meat.

I dont know if maybe it's an area thing or just a supply issue at the time but the Walmarts near me have typically had prime cuts available always. They're ok and not expensive. During the pandemic ribeye skyrocketed to over 20usd/lb. and was ridiculous but now the prime cuts are back to somewhat normal at 14'ish/lb. with thick steaks available. For whatever reason in the past year Walmart started using a different packaging (different supplier probably) for the prime cuts and went from a black foam to a blue foam, which you'd think wouldnt matter, but I only bought two of them and both times the foam was like falling apart and I had to clean blue dust like particles off the meats so I haven't bought a Walmart steak since.

It's taco bell or KFC. My Walmart has prime steaks. I know not every Walmart does, but mine does. Can't tell you why mine does though. I also have an HEB with prime steaks as well as a Costco, Whole Foods, and Fiesta Foods. There are also a few meat markets too. Out of all of them, Costco has the best steaks I have access to. Also, Costco is only slightly more expensive than Walmart. My only issue with Costco is the fact that it is a massive pain in the butt going there. The place is always packed. I end up spending 10+ minutes circling the parking lot with dozens of other cars looking for a spot. Then I have to walk a mile to back of the store after to get the steak to wait forever in a line to walk another mile back to my car. Sometimes I feel it is worth it, but usually not. I end up usually grabbing HEB which is about on the level as whole foods, just cheaper.

Prime and Choice are terms that are used by the USDA, the United States Department of Agriculture, I’m not sure what Sweden has but they most likely have their own different method of categorizing steaks since all the ones used by Guga from grocery stores are all going to be from the US, hence USDA

We dont have any grading system in sweden for meat. There are stores that make their own gradings however. Like "Ica" (Swedish grocery store) has "Ica Select"which is steaks with better marbeling. Altho most of the time even those are not in the "Prime" range. Also all steaks in swedish grocery stores are thin. The ones we call thick here is what guga said was thin in this video. If you want to get ahold of good meats go to a local butcher or to a "Saluhall" and have someone cut the steak in front of you after you selected out what you want. Another good place to find good marbeled meat is "LIDL" belive it or not. They usually have very nice beef there.

In romania its bad too. We dont have a usda ranking system but if we would, they would be no grade. The filet mignon has the same marbeling (almost none) as steaks that are 40 50 dollars/ kg

Get it online if you can. That’s what I’d suggest but I know that still can’t help everyone. I have pretty good selection here in stores but I do want to eventually get some stuff online.

You should dry age beef in birria marinade. Either you can make the marinade, cook it down, dehydrate and make a powder and put it on or maybe try to wet age it in the marinade or even make a birria paste and dry age it in

If you guys are ever in Vegas, there's a restaurant called Joe's Seafood Prime Steak and Stone Crab at Cesar's. I prided myself on making steaks better than any restaurant so I never ordered it. But my wife and I got some gift cards so I decided to try their steak. Boy was it an eye opener. I had the best rib eye I have ever had. It was so taste, juicy and perfectly cooked. It made me question my steak cooking abilities!

I'm a big steak guy and recently moved to vegas. I went to Joe's and had a ribeye myself. the ribeye is okay but the stone crab claws are unreal. I hear Bazaar meats in Vegas has the best steaks so I'm gonna try that next.

Guga, you should check out big box prepacked steaks. Places like Target ship out precut, prepackaged steaks. I swear they put preservatives in them. When you open the package, it does not smell like meat, instead it smells like chemicals.
