Shooting my Mamiya C33 with expired TMAX 100

Hello there! Thank you so much for stopping by. In this video I take you along with me while I make some photos with my twin lens reflex camera, the Mamiya C33 and an expired roll of Kodak Tmax 100 (2012). I haven't used this camera in I think about two years, so it as well as I was a bit rusty. ;p

I just discovered your channel and I'm impressed. Don't worry too much about shooting expired B/W film. As long as it wasn't left baking in the Sahara sun or in a flooded cellar for decades, it should be OK for just casual shooting. I've shot Kodak Tri-X 400 that expired in the 70's with no problems on my C3, but metering at 200 ISO.

Thank you for your insight! I did not know what to expect from the expired TMAX but it seems you are right, not much to worry about actually. :)

One benefit of the C330 series is that one can get a "split image" ground glass which you can guarantee to nail focus otherwise you're just sorta guessing. Made a world of difference for me. Now sure they're available for earlier models.

Just currently scanning some TMax 100 negatives shot with either a C330 or Speed Graphic with medium format 6x7 back. Wonderful times but those days are over.

@@elsvanopstal Why would I spend money on film and processing and scan it with my digital camera when I can just take the pic with my digital camera to begin with?

@@keithwiebe1787 Oh I see. I do feel like they're two different things and I love the look of film, which is something I have not been able to replicate with digital. But I get it! Digital is way faster. :)

If you want the best and sharpest quality from this camera you've got to use a tripod. The early C3 series were definitely the most heavy and well built of the Mamiya TLR line.

I've managed to get sharp results without a tripod in the past, but these gray and rainy days really aren't the best for hand held... :)

@@elsvanopstal you can make an easy to carry on "tripod" by connecting a strap with a slope at one end and at the opposite a fitting screw to the cam's bottom thread. Step a foot into the slope, suiting length strap to let you look into the finder. Now holding the camera by pulling tight will avoid shake. At least to some effect . . . .

Hey this worked out to be a great shoot in what I see Els. As love the dogs and the great shots they provided and so true it would not be the beautiful Els if she didn't include some lovely protrait shots of you. Great shot of the BF with the dogs as well for they are not ones to stay still long and totally understandable that you overlooked the pole though I think it still turn out to be a great shot for you and one your sure to treasure and cherish I'm sure. Great to see the camera is still working as well for had we worried there for a moment that the rain did end up getting to it. Interesting to film is something you shoot as my ole film camera is collecting dust (the bag that is as camera should be fine) as don't know if I can find a battery for it as I have not used it in forever and wonder if I can even find film as really haven't looked to see if I can as most film I've seen now is that of disposable cameras as mostly digital reprints and for framing. Over all though beautiful shoot once again beautiful Els.

Nice. I have always admired that camera and would like to add one to my collection. My Yashica 124G will also double expose randomly, sometimes to great effect. Using expired film is always a bit of a fun time, never knowing how things will turn out. Thanks for sharing this.

You wouldn't believe how cheap the Yashica feels like compared to a Mamiya TLR series. I have used the Yashica, an old Konica, and mostly Mamiya C330f for weddings and portraits with trading around ended up with some C3's, C33, and C220 and the original Mamiyaflex's. Don't have any of them anymore as I don't see a need.

I used Mamiya C series, professionally !Super cameras, easy close ups! Other lenses! Leaves Rolleiflex standing! Sadly very heavy! My age! Images are very sharp, as film runs in straight line! Oh! I adore Border Collies! Lovely images! Bravo!

This lovely C weighs more than my tent. For ramblings in the Balkan hinterland when every ounce counts, I pack my Zeiss folder. Resolution, contrast, etc. are all that I need.
