@@oli.y I think it has something to do with MLB salary caps/luxury tax. If he agrees to a deferment, they can get more high value players without hitting salary cap and paying the luxury tax (to punish teams that try to "buy" a world series). I am not an expert by any means, but I think if they pay Ohtani when he's not playing for them they can avoid counting that 68M/yr towards the cap (thus allowing them to pay him and other players more in the long run since they are saving so much by not hitting cap).

His interpreter is a con man. He lied about working for the Red Sox. He got close to a guy that doesnt speak English and was able to talk his way into Ohtani's life and getting him to trust him, even with his money. I can see how Ohtani could've been fooled by him. Look at Fabia and how he got into Diego Sanchez's head. Even Tom Brady's guru Alex Guerrero is shady and i think used Tom. And now they have decided to part ways as business partners on the TB12 brand. Brady is going to rebrand.

Would a bookmaker allow someone who makes $300k/yr. a $4.5MM credit line?
@mnplumberman

1. He never owed 4.5 million at one time. He owed smaller amounts $500k at a time which he paid off. on several occasions. 2. How does the bookie know what the guys salary is. If he knew he was connected to Shohei there would be multiple reasons to let Ippei rack up a big debt. 3. He paid off his debts, so why wouldn't he keep letting him rack up more.

All athletes hiring an interpreter and only saying "Me no engrish" 😅😂 Smart low key
Brady is going to rebrand.
even if true, no way mlb is letting their golden boy go down.

The dumb trolls accussing him are actually the ones that bets on games, bunch of loser's 😅 I knew right away Shohei was innocent, there is no way he would be wiring money from his own bank account to a illegal sports bookie.
*contract
1:25 joe's like "right..:" like if he ain't worth that 😂
Whats with americans obsession with the yakuza 😂
How does a random guy get a 4.5 million dollar line of credit from an illegal bookie????

From the guy he’s working for. That’s how.

The news reports say that the bookie knew the interpreter's BFF was Ohtani. The bookie also dropped Shohei's name to help grow his business. And the bookie knew that Shohei's real last name was Otani without the h, because that is the legal name on the bank account of the wire transfers.
It’s very interesting to listen to different perspectives from the 🇺🇸. Peace and Love from Japan 🇯🇵
I love Joe, but this is absolute idiocy 😂
In a year and a half that translator is going to get a Big transferred cash…. Really big.

Highly doubt it Also highly doubt a guy going to a foreign country and randomly starts betting on that country’s sport which they know nothing about Literally is the most outlandish take that Ohtani actually bets considering it’s actually a profession to sports bet because you actually have to sit down and think and know everything to predict who’s gonna win. You actually think Ohtani has the time to do that is why Scam callers have jobs because gullible people like you exist in this world that would believe the most ridiculous things
That dude is one corny and highly boring guest. Who tf is he?
NOBODY gives the help access to millions of dollars, Ohtani was the brains behind the gambling. He has to go.

He gave his mom control of his money and foolishly allowed Ippei to run his finances when he moved to America. He’s never ran his own account before.
It's like Sandro Tonali and his gambling problems and the Mafia in Italy. Same same.
lol how did they put organized crime on this guy when their allegations of his interpreter doing shady things

I think he fully knew what his interpreter was doing but scandals are always political, the person whose gonna have to take the fall for optics is not going to be the one signed to a 700 million dollar deal.

Yeah I don’t think they actually think he’s in the mob. Just exploring the idea lol. The interpreter is viewed as the fall guy by the MLB fans, so it’s in most people’s opinions that Ohtani is a degenerate gambler like most Americans and needed a fall guy 😁
Yasiel Puig had Cuban gangsters after his ass
How did this thing go to Yakuza? Baseball players in Japan are rich they don’t need mob connections to come over here.
Baseball needs Ohtani more than he needs the MLB. MLB can get more money the more international superstars it has. The Dodgers did it with Jackie Robinson, then With El Toro Valenzuela, and now with Ohtani. They're expanding their brand.
Would a bookmaker allow someone who makes $300k/yr. a $4.5MM credit line?

For the first time since I have been watching and enjoying your show, on this topic Joe, you don't have any idea of what you are talking about. Ohtani is possibly the greatest baseball player ever... you are just talking misconceptions without any facts.
He also has a NEW Garbage pail kid x MLB 2023 trading card.
This actually might be the dumbest take I’ve ever heard from Joe. Absolutely nothing is proven that shohei gambled a single penny and he jumps straight to he has ties to the yakuza ??😂 cmon man

It was all hypothetical. It’s just dudes talking
Baseball is way better than NFL and NBA
Many people don't know this. Tod Bohley who is part owner of the Dodgers bought Chelsea FC for 5.2 billion dollars. The dodgers have money. They just can't flex it. A side note. In the past year Chelsea have spent 1 billion dollars on buying players! They also have a Saudi Arabia investor. Just food for thought.
Joe stereotyping Ohtani. The Yakuza isnt what it was anymore. Theyre dying off in Japan. Hes apeaking on a allegation he knows nothing about. Get with it Joe.

The yakuza is still very real and thriving. You don’t hear about it because you probably don’t live there. They stopped being a frontier of crime and instead control companies and corporations. You’d be surprised how much of Japan is still controlled by the yakuza
