Shenzhen: The Migrant Experiment

What is is like to live in Shenzhen? We talk with a group of migrants to find out how the city has changed and what makes it so special. This documentary looks at how the city has changed and how foreigners and local migrants feeling about these changes.
More about Shenzhen City:
In 1980, Shenzhen was established as China's first special economic zone. Shenzhen's registered population as of 2017 was estimated at 12 million plus. However, the Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee estimates that the population of Shenzhen is about 20 million, due to the large unregistered floating migrant population living in the city.
Shenzhen was one of the fastest-growing cities in the world in the 1990's and the 2000's. And has been ranked second on the list of ‘top 10 cities to visit in 2019'.
This has been one of the largest and most successful migrant experiments in the world and has lead the way in forging China's modern identity.

It's is crazy how fast shenzhen has developed, I'm from Israel and moved to Shenzhen shekou around 11 years ago, I'm now 15, and I love it here, it's my home, over the years I had a chance to learn fluent Chinese and English, shekou is at the very bottom of shenzhen right next to Hong Kong, and it went from haveing strawberry fields, boats and simple building to haveing skyscrapers and the huge shenzhen bay. It's my home, and I can't imagen me anywhere else

You know what, here political parties just fight each other & just keep voters in illusion....... their (parties) 1st priority is to increase "their" bank balance, not the growth or development of the country. China & India were almost at same position when we got our freedom in 1947 from East India company (British), but china did an amazing job, now they are far develop then us. Even in population our growth rate is almost double as compare to china. We will overtake then in comming years, If any Chinese is reading this comment, just wanna say your government did an amazing job! Love from 🇮🇳 Now plz don't call anti-national or something bcz of recent border clash in galvan valley & I'm favouring china. I'm just speaking the truth, we should learn what were the good steps which china took and developed themselves so much!!

I also think that this is true but if we are really friends then we should be cooperating with each other. Bullying and suppressing in the name of development is not gonna work here. I know the western culture and their history about colonization but China wanted to do same with weapon of economic and intellectual suppression of people by bullying them.

There are thousands of km's of high speed rail, new factories, industrial parks, roads, tunnels etc. that are being build, even in Africa. It seems as if people don't even know that this is really already happening now. It's not some empty promise or vague future plan, it is actually already being done right now. I hope i live to see the big cities in China become as modern and functional as big Japanese cities have become. But still with their own unique politics and culture. :) And as soon as China in general start to understand the importance about quality in material things/products, i believe they will climb towards a great future very fast. :) I actually believe it is a more open and free marked in Shenzhen then it is in USA in general and that it is much more easy to start a new business there. I believe it is less bureaucratically paperwork to do when you start up there too, compare to how it is in USA or Europe.

frightone nearly all young Chinese people can read and speak some English. All Chinese have to study English if they want to get admitted by universities. Chinese is a totally different language system when compared to English. Chinese may use many different characters to present same meanings, for example, 日 is the word for the sun,but we also have 太阳,阳 to represent this meaning. At the same time, one character may have totally different meanings. 好,This character may represent good(adj), it can also mean very(adv), sometime we use it to mean okay as well. If you want to study Chinese, it’s better to find a chinese and just talk with him/her, your Chinese level will一飞冲天,进步神速. Fight on!

I think we can all agree on a few things. Firstly many of us respect China as a country of rich heritage and culture. I personally admire the grit Chinese people, not only in the mainland, but else where in the world. Secondly, the world has benefited tremendously from China and it’s rise to economic new heights and for that we should all be grateful. Whether you like it or know it or not, the global economy would not exist today without China. The one thing that a lot of us are uneasy about, myself included, is the actions and commentary of the Chinese Communist Party. I’ve studied the roots of the arguments and why they are the way they are, and I understand where they are coming from. However there is no way such an authoritative regime can survive by constantly showing a giant middle finger to the rest of the world. There’s a lot more I wish to say, but my only hope is people like myself will one day get an opportunity to freely interact with the real China.

Real China? Like Japan to be occupied by a foreign country even after the end of cold war. Reading less China basing news will probably lead you to see why US are exaggerating China threat. Which is making an excuse to keep their military base opening on Japanese soil. US kept chip making technology out Japanese hands and forced you guys to sign Plaza Accord to devalue their dollers and overvalued the Japanese currency Yan. Which in turn cased the stagnation of Japanese economy for 30 years now. Now the Americans are playing the same old tricks again, rasing interest rat to put down their inflation rate which was caused by their rustless irresponsible dollar printing act. And in turn they are dragging the poor developing nations into bankruptcy. You Japanese must have developed Stockholm Symptoms to say Chinese government is aggressive ...

I know how "commie" my comment seems but i've seen it working... so why not have an open mind atleast to observe?
