HOLY LAND: STARTUP NATIONS (SERIES 2)
Premiering in February, the second season of WIRED’s Future Cities series takes us inside one of the world’s biggest startup nations. With the most tech startups and venture capital per capita in the world, Israel has long been hailed as The Startup Nation. WIRED’s four-part series will look beyond Tel Aviv’s vibrant, liberal tech epicentre to the wider Holy Land region - the Palestinian territories, where a parallel Startup Nation story is emerging in East Jerusalem, Ramallah and the West Bank, as well as in the Israeli cybersecurity hub of Beersheba. And we will learn how the fertile innovation ecosystem of Silicon Wadi has evolved as a result of its unique political, geographical and cultural situation and explore the future challenges - and solutions - these nations are facing.

Bunnie's analysis of the evolving phone recycling market (13:40) is fascinating.
That was awesome. I got goosebumps watching it all. Awesome content.
I wish this wasn't the last episode as someone living in Hong Kong for the last 7 years its been really interesting watching Shenzhen and China grow.

It's so cool to see Bunny Huang walking the streets of Shenzhen and nobody knows who he is. And that the reason they have a job, it's probably because of him..
Dope... as in super Dope! Great job to those people behind this stuff!
Wow this is so much better than vice style documentary
Beautiful city.
This was a truly interesting documentary which shed light on open source hardware as a new paradigm rather than a problem. An interesting angle which I have not considered before!
I watched all of the series and it is all excellent story and shooting. Could you tell me what camera was used in this video?
Great!MeeGOPad will keep on improving our products through customer feedback and keep innovating our products to be on the cutting-edge.
Great Content, Period.
Excellent series. Really well done. Gentrification is happening here at a rapid pace. In three years I've seen rental prices for residential and commercial properties increase almost two-fold.

I listened to this video carefully until the end. This is part of the best videos on the discovery of the world - And I learned a lot. I find that the chinese are sympathetic, very resourceful, obliging and kind people. Thank you to your team.
I live next to Huaqiangbei :) Awesome doc
Hi, when hear in Chinese, I did not hear about the Meegopad CEO say he don't like Apple. Is there anything confusion?
Great video, I disagree with the presented thoughts on IP, but really enjoyed the presentation, and the cross topic context. Thanks!

why is there a shot of Stanford at 4:52 ?

Probably to represent the "young white males..." lol
This whole series should be relaunched PR style. The Victoria and Albert Design Museum has for the first time opened overseas in Shenzhen. This series shows why new kid on the block Shenzhen was a better choice than Beijing or Shanghai, for the raw entrepreneurial talent, manufacturing and design innovations going on there.
usb computer just connect to display and ready to rolling dude ? what u call this usb thingy ?
Shenzhen is the perfect distopian cyberpunk city
always follow shenzhen
Artificial intelligence will become sentient in Shenzhen.
3:10: I think this world should be an open source world, Tesla, Facebook or Amazon have open sourced their AI technology, also Android is open sourced. 3:27: He did _not_ say "I don't like Apple".
In US, they argue and fights each other over petty stuff, China accepts the situation and moves on. That is why they progress so much so fast. And Japan, they just respects each other a lot, that allows them to work together and they move fast too.
"Shan Zhai" is a spirit? You are saying by copying someone's work is a spirit?
@zxxNikoxxz

if it benefits the common people I would be okay with it. I personally think copyright is just damaging the consumer, without it we could possibility have more innovation. If a shanzai is better then the original it simply means the original products was shit.
@TealiaAida

Shit is a bit of an exaggeration, research is good, and improving is slightly different from creating. Don't get me wrong though, shanzhai is a good thing in my book
2:43 holy shit they use those scam wireless anti static straps.
so the story is like a child learning to take small steps at first is hard but eventually you.l be walking like a big boy!! Go CHINA!! greetings from Mexico!!
Intellectual property is dead. Long life to intellectual performance (esther dyson said during late 90s internet boom)
Cyberpunk city
This part tries too hard to elevate the topic.
great for china! even the lower income neiborhood are in tech lol
is this akira, it pulls me there, yet its the climax of capitalism whats happening there
With the amount of incoming money, gentrification is just going to happen. Where else is it going to go, can't stay the same forever. So don't lament the past...there is so many other fishing villages that is not gentrified

virgin boards. Yes I want virgin boards please.
Can China ever overcome the title of cheap and cheerful.In the YK China is seen as a copycat nation and yet this video shows some inventive and original folk.So why are they not pushing their own brands...or do suspicions lie elsewhere in terms of fear of Chines government intents. Or is it because the impressions of the past of chines items not being good still prevail.Strange considering no one notices the made in China on lots of our goods.
English translation is like shit. It's misleading!
Sorry I'm not convinced. Why do they have to go so far as to copy brand logos or make a resemblance? Why not create something completely different that would give them their uniqueness instead of copying 90% of US products with low quality materials and lesser price. I think the Chinese have what it takes to beat US in innovation but not if all they do is copy. Copying should only be 10% of what they do and 90% should be original innovation
@DeadkidJyuHaHa

its because they make what the market wants
@Metaroids
7 жыл бұрын
Yeah instead of creating something better they recreate what's already there and copy other people's products
@harryjohnson615
7 жыл бұрын
So what if the Chinese are recreating something that's already there. At least it's 1/10th the cost. If I had the choice, I would rather pay a $100 for a Chinese clone rather that paying Apple $700. If companies like Apple didn't charge such ridiculous amounts of money for a product there wouldn't be a market for the Chinese to copy
@Metaroids
7 жыл бұрын
It is their product asshole. They can price it however they want. In order for producers to innovate, they should be able to monetize their creation. Otherwise no one would be motivated to create something good and technology would no lomger advance
@harryjohnson615
7 жыл бұрын
There's a huge difference between monetizing something and ripping people off. The fact the Chinese can produce an almost indistinguishable product for a 1/10th of the cost and still make a profit is demonstrable proof. Apple didn't invent the MP3 player nor did they invent the mobile phone but what what they did do, like so many other bigs companies, was to patent everything and make it all a closed system which stifles the growth of technology for fear of being sued. Innovation is being driven by opensource , makers, hackers and the Chinese on a wide world scale, taking what's already there and making it better. Your way of thinking goes back to the days of Henry Ford, if it was up to him we would all still be driving Model T Fords only available in black. Your naive if you think that governments, companies and individuals don't copy and steal ideas from each other, what sets the Chinese apart is they blatantly do it in the open and couldn't give a fuck what the West thinks. Have a good day "Asshole" 😀
Is this guy calling apple an industrial spy? really? a chinese entrepreneur is calling somebody a spy?
